Product Description

Construct a detailed LEGO brick model of the world-famous Trevi Fountain, the largest fountain in Rome. Designed by Nicola Salvi, the ?Fontana di Trevi? took 30 years to build and was completed by his friend ? the sculptor, Pietro Bracci ? in 1762, 11 years after Salvi's death. This stunning Baroque monument carved from Travertine stone has been the backdrop for many classic movies, including Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita. And, today, over 250 years later, the 49-meter-wide fountain still drws thousands of visitors to the small Trevi square. The intricate LEGO model of this iconic symbol of Rome incorporates features such as the fa ade of the Palazzo Poli, the statues of Ocean, Abundance and Health, plus translucent blue water-effect LEGO bricks. This LEGO Architecture Landmark Series interpretation of the Trevi Fountain was designed by artist Rok ?galin Kobe in close collaboration with the LEGO design team.

This is a fantastic set in the Architecture series. It is beautiful to look at and really captures the grandeur of the fountain on a small scale - not an easy task when you consider how ornate the fountain is. I love the transparent light blue bricks for the water, and how the grey bricks nicely represent the rock work of the real fountain. Even the Lego take of the horses looks great, and the instruction booklet is as informative as usual when it comes to describing the history behind the fountain. Brilliant and perfect for anyone who has just visited the Eternal City and wants a memento of the fountain; I would go as far and say I prefer it to the many souvenir model fountains that are sold all around Rome.

I was very excited to build this Architecture series product because of the intricate details including the blue 'water' tiles and blocks. It is more challenging than some of the other buildings in the series, and I did find myself both making mistakes while following the building instructions and having some parts (the horses) constantly falling apart. My biggest disappointment, however, was on viewing the completed kit: because the building instructions have you place clear (ie no-color) blocks on the front side of the fountain's wall, and transparent blue blocks on the back side of the fountain's wall, the structure appears to have very little color unless you back-light it. Back-lighting allows the color from the transparent blue blocks on the back of the structure to shine through to the front. Intending to display this building on a shelf against a wall will take a good deal of the beauty away from the product. I may take it apart and reverse the positions of the clear and transparent blue blocks so that the color is on the front of the structure and it will then look more like the photo on the box. A better choice would have been to use light blue transparent blocks for the fountain's wall, and no clear blocks. To me, this was a huge design flaw and creates deceptive product advertising which led to disappointment with the finished product.

It is very detailed and the hardest part is putting the horses in the fountain. Every time I tried to put the horse in the water it fell apart. Wish the connection was stronger or held together better. People that seen it is amazed at how pretty and detailed it is for Lego.

I haven't assembled this Lego yet, but look forward to doing so soon. It's a great reminder of our trip to Rome in February, where we "stumbled upon" the Trevi Fountain, and were blown away by its size and beauty.

Comments about LEGO Architecture Trevi Fountain (21020):

I'll be honest, this build resulted longer and tougher than I though. Very detailed set with *lots* of blue water bricks. Nevertheless, the resulting fountain is beautiful and a nice addition to any collection. I even showed to a friend that actually visited Trevi Fountain and she recognized it immediately!

Comments about LEGO Architecture Trevi Fountain (21020):

I had purchased this Architecture set today as a gift to myself. I was excited at first to build it! But as the time went on, I had found it to be very detail-oriented. The water took quite a bit of time to put together, and at one point, it was starting to hurt my fingers. I tunnel visioned to finish it. It was probably one of, if not the most, challenging build I have done so far from the Architecture series. I still love it though. I was so happy to see the final product!
