Those little door handle covers are good up until your child is a year old, but beyond that they don't work. My 3 year old will usually stay out of rooms when told to, but my 1 1/2 year old will NOT. We didn't know what to do until we came to BRU's website to find a solution. My husband went to the store right away and came back with one of these. Well, the instruction are easy, it is easy to install, but it didn't work with the way our trim is sloped and decorative. The "latch" couldn't catch and so it would just slide right by. I was so bummed! Then my husband had the idea to fix it by nailing in an extra piece of wood with a 90 degree cut, and problems solved. The pinch guard still works perfectly and everything. Neither of our kids can get in the room now, and our sanity has been restored! Whoever invented this is a lifesaver. We are going to go back soon and get another one for a different door.

The product works as designed, but there was no mention about checking the door jamb. The key thing is to make sure you check to make sure that both sides of the jamb where the locking mechanism latches on to is square. After getting everything out of the box and mounting it, we noticed that it was not working. It turned out that one side of our door jamb is mitered with a curved edge that would not allow the locking mechanism to engage. To make it work we utilized the catches that are used for the drawer locks and mounted that to the door jamb to get the square edge that is needed.

We put it on my daughter's door beacuae she kept getting out of bed and coming into our room multiple times a night... the first time she woke up it took her less than 60 seconds to pop the lock on the door. The second time I took one pull.

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

The lock works. Finger pinch guard is great, but no the lock for me. On my door, you can never fully close the door with this lock on. Annoying to me, so I returned it.

This is exactly what I needed. I love that this technically keeps the door open, yet is a finger saver. There is no possible way for a child to slam the door on themselves as long as this lock is engaged. I appreciate that there are no tools or holes involved.

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

I have a walking 10 month old who is very curious about everything in the bathroom. I bought a few other products to stop my son from being able to get into the bathroom, but our apartment has old thick doors and no product would fit until I found this one. What I also love about this product is it makes it impossible to get his fingers pinched by either the door or in the door jam. It's truly been a lifesaver!

Comments about Safety 1st Prograde Top of Door Lock:

These are a life saver! I saw someone post about them on social media and I purchased 2 immediately. They look a tad pricey, but they are so worth it. I installed these myself. The first one took me around 10 minutes, the second 60 seconds haha. Nothing is needed and no hardware has to be installed! You literally place it on the door and screw it tight with the included mini Allan wrench. They are so easy and convenient to use. We have gates gating off most of the rooms in the house since they aren't baby proofed. There are still a couple rooms we don't have gates for so these worked perfect. The bathroom and the laundry room now have these on them. All you do is open the door and then push these away from the door frame to get in, then getting out u stick your hand through the door and push them away. Super easy, but the key is you place them about 5 feet above the ground so little ones can't reach them. Also you can click the little silver button to keep it against the door (away from the frame) to disable it.

My 2 year old quickly learned how to break off the safety doorknobs. This was easy to install and keeps him out of the rooms we don't want him in. Though he has already tried to push a stepping stool up to the door to reach the latch. Luckily he isn't tall enough to reach yet!
