We got this for our 2 yr old little girl because she love trains. She calls this play set her "choo choo". It does come with a Thomas train. This Thomas train does not automatically shut off if it hits an obstacle or derails. It'll keep going until it's stuck- making clicking noises until you shut it off.

A warning to the other parents out there: My toddlers would just want this thing on, play with it for a bit, then walks away, but gets upset if you turn it off. So, we have to tolerate the annoying sound it makes as it goes around the track. (sounds a bit like battery operated pencil sharpener but just keeps going and going).

She has recently taken a shine to putting the tracks together. Which I find is a very good exercise in puzzle solving.

Overall we like this thing but bring it out sparingly due to the noise.

This is a very easy to put together train set and you can always add more pience to make it more challenging. It's a great buy for your money and my son loves it.

My favorite 2 yo LOVES Thomas. This is one of his favorite toys of all time. He watches Thomas go round and round for hours. I know some review say changing the battery was hard. I did find it a little tricky but you just take the one x head screw out and squeeze the top of the engine. Then the battery is easy to replace. My biggest complaint is that it clicks when it gets stuck which happens with often enough that it drives me crazy. Over all he has a lot of fun and it seems pretty durable.

My 2 year old is obsessed with Thomas, and he loves this playset. It can be combined with other trackmaster sets, like Percy's Day at the Farm. Just one problem: when the batteries in the engine die, they are IMPOSSIBLE to replace. The battery compartment cover is held in place with diabolical triangle-shaped screw heads that cannot be removed with a Phillips or a flathead screwdriver. I can't even get the cover off to find out what kind of battery it takes. Buyer beware!
