Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

This is our second Summer Infant monitor. Our first was a single camera with wifi capabilities, but now with a newborn and toddler we decided it would be nice to have eyes on both cribs. After using this camera for a few weeks now, here's what I've found:

SETUP - Couldn't be easier. Plug everything in and power on. Mostly, we use it when the kids are sleeping but on occasion, if I have to be away from the kid's play area to cook or clean, it's so easy to move one of the monitors over.

VIDEO - I really like the large screen size. We leave it on split mode and go full screen to one camera when something's happening. While our last monitor had a much smaller screen size and worked fine, it is really nice to glance over at the nightstand without having to pick up the monitor or squint. I wouldn't say the picture quality is great (especially the night vision), but it's good enough for what we need it to do. At night, we leave it plugged in so that the video stays on. If you have it unplugged, the power save kicks in and turns off the video after a minute or two.

CAMERAS - The biggest feature I found the last camera to lack was the ability to pan/scan/zoom. Our kid moves so much in his sleep that he was often not in view. The ability to change the camera angle is a huge plus for us and it's easy to do even when you're half asleep with the large side buttons.

SOUND - The quality is clear enough to hear what's going on. The low setting on this seems to be higher than the first one I had.

SPEAKER - Our primary need for the monitor is to help us determine whether or not we need to go in or allow the kids (mostly the toddler for now) to put themselves back to sleep. The speaker is an extra feature that we don't use because if there's a reason to say anything we usually go into the kids' room. That said, I did use it once when I caught the little guy trying to climb out of his crib. With a quick "no no - don't do that" I caught him by surprise and he quickly sat down, looked around, and went to sleep.

TEMPERATURE - When we shopped for our first camera, I dismissed the importance of this feature but realized later that it could be useful for us. Without central heating we turn on a separate space heater in the kids' room on colder nights. Now being able to see the temperature and make sure it's not too hot or cold gives us peace of mind.

HARDWARE & CONTROLS - At this price point, I would expect the hardware to have a more premium finish to it, but I haven't had any issues with it so far. The key features are easy to access, and buttons are straight-forward to understand/use without reading the manual (with maybe the exception of the temperature Celsius/Fahrenheit toggle).

Overall, I'm very happy with this monitor and would recommend it to anyone who needs to keep an eye on more than one area of the house at a time.

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

I received a free sample of this product for review purposes.

I really like this monitor for several reasons. It is extremely user friendIy, with the ability to perform functions with just 1 touch. I love that it has 2 cameras with the option to add up to 4. It is really convenient to view the baby at various locations around the house without having to move the camera each time. Currently, I have one in her room and the other in the living room. That way I can leave the room briefly and still have an eye on her.

This monitor has the ability to view split screen and also to toggle back and forth between full size views of each camera. The audio can also be toggled, which is very nice if you have multiple children. Aside from audio for you to listen, there voice capability allowing you to speak into the monitor to talk to the baby if need be. I even use this feature to talk to my husband if he's in the living room and I'm in another room. The cameras each pan, tilt, and zoom as well, which I find extremely useful. The monitor also has a sleep mode that allows you to hear the sound, but not have the monitor lit up.

The daytime resolution of this device is excellent. I can see even small details. The night time resolution is not as good, but it's not bad either. I wish it was a little bit clearer, but overall I am satisfied with it.

The side by side monitor also has a temperature indication. I didn't really use this feature, but I think it would be nice to have if I had a room that seemed warmer or colder than the rest of the house. Sometimes I question whether it is accurate, but it is definitely within a couple of degrees.

This monitor had very good battery life. I was able to disconnect the monitor from the power supply and carry it around the house with me. It lasted all day and evening before I had to plug it back in.

Overall, I am very pleased with his monitor and would highly recommend it. I had a basic one prior to using this one and I can't go back to it now that I have used the Summer Side-by-side. I gave this monitor 4 stars only because I think the night resolution could be a little better and I am not sure about the temperature indication, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

I have used this monitor for a couple of weeks and I really love so many things about it. Previously I had a single monitor with basic functions and after trying the Summer Side-by-Side I don't think I'll go back to the basic monitor.

It came with two monitors, which is really convenient because I can put them in separate rooms instead of having to move a single monitor around all the time. I have one in the baby's bedroom aimed at her crib and the other in the living room where she usually takes a nap. To switch between cameras, you just push a button to toggle back and forth.

The camera tilts up and down, pans side to side, as well as zooms. This is a great feature, as my baby moves around in her crib at night.

I also enjoy the audio as well. It has adjustable volume, very clear sound without interference. It comes in handy, not just to listen and talk to the baby, but I have also used it to talk to my husband if we are in separate rooms.

The resolution during the day is excellent. The images are very clear and crisp. The night vision is very good as well, although the resolution could be a little bit better for the night vision.

There is a built-in temperature gauge on the monitors. I did not get a lot of use out of that, but it could be very convenient if you have a room that tends to be hotter or colder than the rest of the house.

This system also has the ability to add additional cameras. I have not yet added any, but I may do so in the future as our family grows or for convenience.

I received a sample of this product to review, however I have written an honest review of the product and am not biased for or against it.

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

We have been using the Summer Infant Side by Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set for a little over a week now and have been pleased with what we have seen of it so far.

First of all, the setup of this video monitor and the two cameras could not have been easier. All three pieces (the monitor and two cameras) have labeled power cords so we quickly and easily knew which plug went where. Once the cameras and monitor were plugged in, the cameras instantly began streaming to the monitor.

We found the monitor to be very user friendly; the large buttons make it intuitively easy to pan the room, zoom, change the volume of sound, etc. The monitor can also be used on battery power or plugged in. We tend to use it plugged in so we can't speak to battery life, but have never had the battery die when we have used it unplugged. The product is stated to have 600 ft. range; we used it in both our front and back yards and it worked without problem. We also found out the monitor beeps when a camera becomes unplugged; this was helpful when we had the video screen off (just listening for sound) and our camera was accidentally unplugged. The monitor also allows you to talk to your baby through the camera, which is nice when you want to "shhhh" the babyb without getting out of bed.

The picture quality of the monitor is great (as is the 5" screen). We can tell if our little one is not only moving about, but also if he has his eyes open, etc. The night vision works great as well; no matter how dark the room is we can see what is going on.

The one complaint I read from others is that you can only hear the sound in one room at a time. While this is true, it seems like a non issue to me since there is a scan mode that will go back and forth between the cameras allowing you to take turns hearing both rooms.

One feature that I especially love is the monitor automatically puts the video on sleep mode when it isn't touched for an extended period. This is helpful at night so the video isn't lightning up your room, but sound can still be heard from the baby. When we want to see the video again all we have to do is touch one button to quickly turn it back on.

I received the above product as a sample to review, but all of the opinions are my own. I'm looking forward to this monitor growing with the addition of more cameras as our family grows bigger in the future.

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

** We received this item for free **

We don't really consider ourselves "monitor" people, we practice attachment parenting with our daughter, so I was skeptical that this item would be of use in our home. Man! Was I WRONG! There are so many things that get done around the house now that I can see my daughter napping! Here's a few of the great things about this device:

            1. The multiple cameras (ours came with 2). We have one aimed at our bed where she sleeps at night and one aimed at her own crib where she naps during the day. It is amazing not to have to move parts around and set them up while you've got a sleeping baby to be quiet around. (We've also caught the cats sneaking into her bed while she was elsewhere and were able to yell at them using the handy feature named below.)

            2. Speaker! Who knew how cool that would be?! Sometimes all it takes is mamma or daddy's voice to get her back to sleep for a bit and with a touch of a button we can! No more trying to hide by the doorway so she can't see us and wake all the way up!

            3. Day and night view. We can clearly see the baby even in the pitch of night.

Other Pro's: Great sound quality on both ends, nice bright easy to see screen, wireless monitor screen, easy to use panning buttons (kinda funny to pan the room and watch the cats freak out).

            There are only a couple things we weren't totally as thrilled with;

Monitor makes noise near the microwave and near the cameras that come with it. Remember not to carry the monitor with you if you need to readjust your child while sleeping. It isn't very loud, but I can't attest for how loud SHE thinks it is.

Even given that one slight issue, we'd still give this 5 stars! Best product I never knew I needed or wanted. Now, we won't be without one again! I can even see continuing to use this as we have more kids that might be on different napping schedules, can have one camera in the playroom and one in the bedroom :)

Excellent Monitor for Piece of Mind

            By First time mommy

            from Cypress, TX

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

This monitor is wonderful and such a great tool for piece of mind for parents. I love being able to both see and hear my baby at once. Long gone are the days of audio-only monitors. The image quality on the handheld monitor is excellent and having the ability to move each camera and zoom in is great. The handheld parent unit is the biggest of all monitors I've researched. I can easily see my baby breathing and hear him. The sound quality is also great with a good range. I own another monitor system and it often cuts in and out from my baby's lullabies I have playing in his room and not as far a range. I don't have those issues with this monitor. The microphone feature is a great tool for when baby is upset or needs to hear your voice. I know this will be a great tool when my baby grows older as well. The monitor comes with two cameras with the ability to add up to 4, so it's great for growing families. We keep one camera on each end of our baby's crib so we can have multiple views, but when we add to our family, the extra camera will allow us to keep an eye on both children at once with the split screen option. I like how the system has the ability to run off its rechargeable battery for easy portability when you're moving around the house and also can be plugged in at night to conserve battery life. I wish it had the option to play lullabies from the system when baby needs soothing, but using a sound machine in the nursery is a simple fix. All in all, this is a great camera system and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to parents. It's well worth the investment. I received a sample of this product to review, but that in no way influences my opinion of the product.

Comments about Summer Infant Side By Side Split-Screen Video Monitor Set:

I was one of the first to buy this product. I was worried about that, but after 2-3 weeks of use. I think I will keep it. I had a ton of specific questions when I bought this that no one could answer because it was so new. So here is what I discovered. First off, this is my second Summer video monitor to buy. I previously had the first color monitor from them and loved it. But decided to buy a new one when the parts to the old one where not sold anymore. Ok, on to the new product. Here are the questions I had when buying it: 1) When you are in the split screen mode which camera can you talk/listen too? Does it talk to both cameras at the same time? Or just one? Answer: When you are in the split screen mode it highlights the camera that you can talk/listen to. And that is the only room you can talk/listen to. If you want to change cameras WHILE in split screen mode, it has a toggle button to switch the highlight to the camera you want (without having to exit out of any screen). 2) How is the resolution of the screen? Answer: I thought that the resolution on the screen was not as sharp as my first version Summer's color monitor. I think that is because this screen is HUGE so it spreads out the pixels, so the image isn't as sharp. However, the image is plenty sharp enough that you can see if the baby's eyes are open or closed, or it the pacifier is or isn't in the baby's mouth. So, that is still pretty sharp! In light and dark! 3) How is the sound? Answer: Once again, I LOVED the volume of my first Summer's Monitor. This version... Not so much! In fact, currently, I would say this is the feature I dislike the MOST! I don't have sensitive ears and can sleep through noise... but this is pretty loud on the lowest setting. I wish they would have set the volume lower for the first setting! We play a sound machine in baby's rooms and I can TOTALLY hear the noise and have no ability to turn the volume down any lower. (Summer's Infant- please fix this volume issue!). 4) How does the switch camera feature work? Answer: It toggles between the rooms at about 8 seconds and I love it, but like I said in the previous question/answer, the volume is an issue! So, I have to get the volume of the sounds machines just right (to match) so when the monitor toggle to the next room, the volume difference can startle you and sounds uneven. Plus, when you are a new mom, any noise change can wake you. So, we ended up just leaving the monitor on split screen view with the talking/listen highlight on the infant's room and not our toddler's room. Which kinda defeats the purpose of wanting to hear BOTH cameras. But, our toddlers room is right next to us, so if she wakes and cries, we can hear her naturally. 5) How does the adjustment of the camera work? Answer: I don't like how I can't just barely tap the "move" button and the camera just move a tad. No matter how quick you tap the "move" button, it moves the same amount of distance. So, it is hard to get it JUST were you want it. Especially when using the magnify! They need to make more precise control of the movements. But this is not a deal breaker. Other than that, I am happy with the purchase. I hope the company addresses the issues I have pointed out! Hope that help everyone make an informed decision.
