I too had difficulty with the coupon for the catepillars, but customer service stayed with me and I finally got the five catepillars. Had great fun watching them progress every day. AND yesterday we released in our back yard five beautiful monarch butterflies. Very interesting as:
(1) 1st to depart flew to the top and then glided about 8' and landed on the bricks so I could take his picture;
(2) @nd was delayed, but finally made it and when it flew out the top it soared to the top of our citrus tree and landed on a leaf!!;
(3) One by one they all departed within an hour of when I opened the top net.

We purchased the kit and read the instructions. Next step, go online to order the butterfly larvae. But the website wouldn't take our coupon code. Hmph. So we called customer service. They couldn't get it to take the coupon code either, and didn't offer much more help than that. But said they'd call back. They did, to say it should work fine now. But it didn't. We sent the company an email. No response. What good is the net without any butterflies. It's really just junk!

The description says that you will receive the larvae when you send in the coupon. The description does not tell you that you have to pay $5 more along with the coupon.

The product is fine, but I couldn't order the live larvae because of how hot it has been so I wish I would have known that. I suggest toys r us put a link to the Insect Lore people so you can find out if they will deliver the larvae at the time you need them.

I bought one of these to raise and release some Black swallowtail Caterpillars I found at work last year. The kit itself is fine and does work to keep them safe, but I dislike the fact you can order caterpillars through mail. I wouldn't ever think of sending away for someone to ship me live insects. It can't be very healthy for them and seems like a cruel thing to do. Instead do some research into what butterflies are in your area and plant host plants that those butterflies lay eggs on. Then use the kit to raise and release your Butterfly.

Please note that you are purchasing a flimsy pop up butterfly cage. Inside is a certificate to get your caterpillars. You must pay shipping cost of $5 to get the caterpillars. What a rip off! This should just be included in the purchase price.

What a great product! My 3 boys (ages 2,5 and 8) all enjoyed watching the daily transformation of the caterpillars and then the emergence of the butterflies. [...] Directions are very easy to follow for taking care of caterpillars. I highly recommend this product. What a great at-home science project!

We are still in the caterpillar stage, and this is a very interesting process! We have had ours for about a week now and one of the caterpillars is probably 6 or 7 times it's size when we got it.
