Product Description
LEGO City Cargo Train (7939). Load the goods and transport them with the cargo train! Load up the cargo train and make it ready for departure. Use the big crane to load and unload containers and cars from the train and container truck. Open the top of the engine to reveal the train driver's cabin and use the new eight-channel, seven-speed infrared remote control to transport the goods along the new flexible tracks to the airport, harbor or warehouse.

Best Train set to get out of the current Lego sets to start or expand Lego railway. The engine is nicely built and durable, and fits as a passenger train or a cargo train. The train cars are good, and have a lot of playability (loading cargo w/ crane and truck, extra cars to drive, etc.)We have the Tank Truck (3180,) and the tanker fits on the flatbed car for an intermodal look. Other cargo trucks should fit. The train is also quite fast, and can haul many more cars if you expand later. The controls are easy for my 4yo to operate, even my 2yo can do it. The included track also provides the best layout due to the switches, instead of just a boring loop like the passenger train set.Lego Shop-at-Home has all the basic train parts (ie chassis+wheel parts) so you can build your own cars easily and expand the railway. ~$10 for all the parts for a flatbed base. We've now built a breakdown crane car, boxcar, caboose, intermodal freight car and another flatbed. Might need another engine soon, as its getting heavy..lol.Price is high, but well worth it for what it contains. No other set matches. Compare this to the $120 Maersk Cargo Train set, albeit very cool, the engine is not powered, has no tracks and just a cargo truck to go with the cars.Likely to be discontinued mid-2011, so pick one up soon!Compatable with all Lego trains and tracks from the last several decades.

Lego hits it out of the park!

As a gift for our grandchild (5yr boy), this was the perfect train set. The set was not just the usual starter set with an oval or circular track, but included a switch spur line that added to the imaginative play. The train had an engine and three freight cars. Two of the freight cards had cars and containers to load and unload, but Lego didn't stop there. There was included a semi-truck and flatbed trailer and a tower crane to including play loading and delivering the freight and cars. All items, in good Lego tradition, had to be built, so dad and son had hours of fun, first building and then playing together. The included motor and remote control were a great addition and easy for small hands to operate. Lego offered several different train set packages at different retailers, but this one at Toy's is the perfect combination for hours of individual and small group play. Now if only the additional tracks were easier to find…

I had an HO train set when I was a kid. Now my daughter and I get to have the same experience only better. We spent several hours together assembling the train set which was fun! We were both impressed with the quality of the parts, the accuracy of having ALL the parts, and the attention to detail.

When we were done we were totally impressed with how well it worked and looked. Two-Times the fun. My daughter who is 7 just LOVED this kit. She said over and over how much fun it was to do something together and then enjoy the results. Better then just a "train set".

Of course now she is addicted and we will have to get all the other goodies and add-ons now! LOL :-)

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have purchased this set at the Boynton Beach store in Florida in September 2011, got my 6-yo all excited, explained he will get it for Christmas. We were out of town, so he ended up getting it on New Years Eve. Once I've opened the box, I realized it was stuffed with pasta boxes - vermicelli, tortellini etc. This box was picked up from the shelf, doesn't have any signs of wear, packaging looks intact. I was duped into paying around [$] for a box of pasta. Will take it back to the store tomorrow.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
