My husband and I first learned about swaddling at a birthing class at the hospital we delievered at; from their expertise and advice we bought the HALO SleepSack Swaddle Wearable Cotton Blanket, size small.

I have to say, swaddling is a miracle worker! If you swaddle with a blanket and then get your hands on one of these do-dads, you will never go back to the blanket. If you've never swaddled before, try it; it helps the baby stay asleep longer and more comfortable because he isn't flailing his arms (waking himself up) and he stays warmer without the risk of suffocation of a loose blanket.

We used this swaddle every single night until he out grew it, then we purchased an identical one, just a size bigger to replace it.

I like that the HALO SleepSack Swaddle Wearable Cotton Blanket can be unzipped and taken up to where you need to change the baby's diaper without having to unswaddle him, causing him to wake up. The zipper is quiet compared to a cheaper type of swaddle that velcros together.

As often as I used it I had to wash it, because of spit up and/or soiled diapers that got all over. Because of this the velcro part that swaddles the baby became stiff and it didn't work as well after a few wash cycles.

Also, it is made of cotton and as you all know cotton stains easily. But with that said, I'm not sure they make a swaddle in a different material other than cotton.

I used both these as well as the Summer Swaddle Mes. I think these work better for bigger babies as the wrap isn't able to get snug on the baby until he is bigger. I also wish they made the swaddle design in another size larger because we would like to continue swaddling but he's too big for them now, but still far from turning over.

This Swaddle Sleepsack is not quite what I expected. The "wings" are sewed on rather than being removable. The fleece one we have has removable wings and we like it better. If I had noticed before I washed it I would have returned it for another fleece version.

This is so much easier to use than swaddling with a receiving blanket. I love how the velcro piece is big so it really keeps him tightly swaddled. Since we have used this, my 8 week old son sleeps about 8 hours a night!! I HIGHLY recommend this for new babies! We have been using the newborn size and just went out and bought the size small today! We also use it for nap time. :-)

My baby used to need to be swaddled when he was a newborn than hated it for a couple weeks. Than one night he was inconsolable.. at a wits end I tried swaddling him with a blanket... he passed out... longer than he ever has. After awhile he would get his arms out so I purchaused this and I get 6-8 hrs of sleep instead of 3-5 at a time. This and sleeping in a Boppy helped alot.
As for the person below me that said it was too big when they bought size small.. they make it in size newborn.

This is really hard to use. My son is not a super small baby I'd say average size and the small is huge on him. I can never get the wings tight enough around his arms so he always gets his arms out minutes after being wrapped up. Also if like my son your baby needs to be all the way unswaddled for night feedings it is a pain to get back on. Trying to line the zipper up in the dark on a wriggling baby is next to impossible. Over all just not that impressed w/ it. Maybe when he gets bigger and it fits better and when he doesn't need to be all the way unswaddled at night then maybe I will find it more useful.

I loved the newborn sized swaddle and my son still needs to be swaddled. So it is great that there is a bigger swaddle for baby.

I don't put babies arms through the arm holes in the sleep sack. I just tuck his arms into the sack with his hands close to his face, then close the swaddle flaps.

Baby sleeps soundly all night.

We found sleep sacks when our baby was newborn. We love the easy access for diaper changes (zipper opens bottom to top, instead of top to bottom, so the upper body stays covered.) And the swaddle works really well for us, helping our son stay asleep instead of whacking himself with his arms. When he got bigger, we got 2 identical sacks with swaddles so we always have 1 clean and 1 in the laundry. We use one every night.
Only drawback--when baby is in the small range for the sack size, the swaddle portion sometimes migrates upward at night, so we have to pull it down or open and reswaddle. But this is still easier to use--and more effective--than any other swaddle/wearable blanket we've tried.
