I purchased this kit for my 4 and 6 year old sons who love to build things. Originally I thought it would be great. I think the tools included are sturdy and is sharp enough to cut cardboard .( Which I think the Kids wood should be made out of). The Kids wood are pieces of foam. You really can't hammer the plastic nails and screws into the foam ( One reviewer shows a kids doing this, really not possible, foam is not thick and sturdy enough.) My 6 year old because frustrated because you can't nail the pieces, you need to push the screws in or the foam bends ( it is not solid enough for nailing ) If you intend on your child playing with the objects they make after they build them, the objects fall apart. The foam does not hold the screws well. Once they come out of the foam they can't be put back in where they will stay. ( You would have to use some glue to make them stay. ) The project idea booklet comes with projects for children to build, not detailed at all, not that that matters because the children are able to create what they want. If I had to purchase this again, I wouldn't . I would purchase a kit with either real wood or a more sturdy material.

Purchased this for my 4yr old Nephew and he loved it, even my 11yr old was having fun helping him make things.
Major disapointment was that you can't find the replacement packs of wood as Toy's R Us either doesn't carry it or they are out of stock. After several weeks of trying I emailed the manufacturer as this was the only way to get it and their site says it could take 4 - 6 weeks to receive!! Plus I had to now pay a shipping charge.

Santa brought this for our 4 year old son for Christmas. He just loves it. we of course have to help a little but for the most part he does it all by himself. Our almost 3 year old daughter even loves it. We built the pirate ship, 4 cars, 1 gun, 1 robot, and tool box, and 2 planes and its only been 3 days since Christmas. I think this is a great project for kids that may lack self esteem, my kids don't but they just beem with pride when they finish a toy, than they play with that toy for hours. the instructions are vague but if you go to the website they do give detailed instuctions there and you can also look on youtube, there is a guy that shows you how to build stuff. you don't need detailed instuctions, make the base on size and go from there. This is a childs toy remember, let them at it and see what they can think up and put together. My sone at 4 build a plane all by himself with no help from anyone else. Its not perfect, but he loves it and plays with it and that's all that really matters. I'd say buy it, its well priced and fun for the entire family, i like building with it too. Only thing I think is there should be a work bench made just for this set.

as i was looking through the direction packet,i noticed that the set came with numerous ideas to build, but had no measurements..how is my son supposed to know how to put the things together...guess...not fun..
