Product Description

Who left these shapes all over the floor? Time to vacuum them up! Six painted wooden pieces (pretzel, peanut, bandage, coin, cereal Os, and a lost diamond ring) are a much cuter version of the everyday messes that parents know all too well. Pass this clever "vacuum" overtop, and they are swept into a compartment inside. Ready to play again? Open up the back panel, pull out the pieces, and make another fun-filled "mess"!

Extension Activities: More Ways to Play and Learn:

  • Place the "trash" pieces in a straight line and help the child count them.

  • Introduce simple addition by dividing the pieces into smaller groups and asking the child to count the pieces in each group. Then push the pieces together and ask the child to count the total.

  • Point to each piece and ask the child to identify all the colors that appear.

  • Help the child identify all the shapes on the pieces.

  • Scatter the pieces over a wide area. Name a color, shape, or pattern, and ask the child to use the vacuum to pick up all the pieces that fit the rule.

  • Scatter the pieces on the floor. While the child looks away, vacuum one of them up. Keep the piece hidden inside the vacuum as the child asks questions and tries to guess which one you picked up.

  • Challenge the child to vacuum up all of the pieces as quickly as possible. Set a timer or count aloud to help the child set a new time record.

  • Arrange the pieces in a path leading to a favorite stuffed animal. Then have the child follow the path of litter (vacuuming up the pieces along the way) to find out who made the mess!

  • Use the pieces to help the child tell a story. Ask the child to pretend the pieces have just been found at the bottom of a lunch box or backpack at the end of a busy day. Then together imagine the adventure that might have left them behind.

Not worth the money even on clearance

By leen

Comments about Melissa & Doug Let's Play House Vacuum Up Play Set:

We bought this on clearance and my son was so excited and after a couple weeks the pieces of plastic that push the toys in all broke and no longer worked and not to mention that thing is loud and annoying. My son kept asking me to fix it and there is no way to fix it so he was so disappointed that his vacuum no longer worked.

I bought this from TRUS for my niece, but tried it out before gifting. worked well on our hardwood floors. I could see there being a problem in carpeted areas tho. Niece absolutely loved it and I am a happy aunt. great quality as expected form M&D

Great deal for a Great Toy

Comments about Melissa & Doug Let's Play House Vacuum Up Play Set:

I bought this toy on clearance for my 1 year old daughter, while she is still a little young for it, I am really pleased with it. It picks up the pieces perfectly and is such a clever idea. Occasionally when I lift it to move it it drops the pieces but if I make sure the vacuum does a full rotation then the piece will stay in the back part. I am excited for my daughter to be old enough to enjoy this. I did 4 stars because we haven't used it a lot so I don't know it does long term.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Let's Play House Vacuum Up Play Set:

This is a great toy for busy kids who love to pretend clean. The best part for the parent is that it requires no batteries. The best part for my child is that he gets to participate in home activities with his dad and I when we are picking up, he gets to master his gross motor skills by pushing and pulling, and he works his fine MS by picking the small pieces out of the vacuum to lay them out and start again. My partner was surprised how much my son loved this toy (and mommy is happy that her son is learning that cleanup can be fun!).
