I bought this after my 4 year old son became obsessed with having one. I loved the blue lights at the bottom and the bubbles were awesome. However, it was way too loud. I had to turn it off at night because he couldn't sleep since it was so stinkin loud. I eventually disassembled this and ran an air tube connected to a tetrawhisper air pump that I put under his nightstand to eliminate the noise problem. The airpump that comes mounted inside the base has wiring for the lighting attached so I had to wait until my husband, whose job involves electrical knowledge in the military; to come home after 6 long months and fix the lights portion of this lamp.

We now love this lamp as it works for amusement and a nightlight but this is only after some modification on our part. Pretty disappointing.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I got this for my daughters 5th bday as a substitute for her night light. She wanted a fish tank in her room. I thought lava lamps were so cool when I was younger. So luckily I saw this and she thinks its so cool to have a "fish tank" in her room. Only negative I found was in the direction packet that said once the led light goes out you can not replace it.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
