The Tonka Strong Arm Garbage Truck is a free-wheeling vehicle with a multi-action trigger-lever built right in. Pull and rev-up the lever and watch the sparks fly in the window as the vehicle's body shakes. Squeeze the lever's trigger to raise the truck's garbage bin. This sturdy vehicle is Built for Adventure and requires no batteries, just "Kid Power."

Did you know that "Tonka" means "great" in Sioux? It's no surprise considering just how long this great, reliable brand of toy trucks has been around!

In 1947, the first Tonka brand toy trucks were actually designed and manufactured by the Mound Metalcraft Company, a small garden toll manufacturer operating from a small schoolhouse basement in Minnesota. In their first year of operation, a staff of only a half dozen people produced a total of 37,000 metal trucks with two designs. This inventory sold out in just a few months as many post-World War II families quickly accepted this new toy. As a result, in 1949, the first Tonka dump truck was introduced launching the first generation of the Tonka brand's family tree. Today, the Tonka brand upholds the same premise it was found on: a toy should be durable and provide the child with as much play value possible!

Santa worked hard to find just the right garbage truck for my now 3yr old. He doesn't like motorized toys-he wants to see how things work and do it himself. This truck was perfect. The bucket can be raised and lowered by hand or using the trigger handle. The sparks on the handle are a big hit. It has taken a lot of abuse, yet is still in wonderful condition. Even 9 months later, it is still one of my son's most used toys. He took it to preschool for share day. One of the other kids loved it so much, he has talked about nothing else for the past 5 days, so his dad begged the teacher to ask me what kind it is and where I got it.

This toy is strong enough to withstand everything a rough and tough boy can put it through! My boy loves banging the garbage from the dumpster into the trash compartment and lifting and emptying the trash out the rear. I love that there are no batteries to change and that this truck is well-built and tough!

We bought this for my 2 (almost 3) year old son. He loves that it makes noise, and that the arm empties the "dumpster," which is included. One thing that surprised us was that when it makes noise it doesn't move on it's own. It moves purely under kid-power. He's loved trying to put blocks, cars and wrapping paper in the truck.

Let me tell you. Most toys made now are junk but this one wasn't. My 4yr old boy LOVES this the mechanics seem to work pretty good as well.
