For christmas my mother-in-law always brings the toys r us book over and lets the kids circle things they like. i had to do the circling for my youngest. this was one of the things i circled. they second we pulled the xylaphone out a peg came off. they are merely glued in 1/16 or less of an inch and very poorly, tapping the pegs makes them come off, and lets face it the children that play with these toys dont have the best aim. by the second day just from banging on the drum, pieces of the wood began chipping off. and the pieces just continued to break.

After I was going to exhange this as the wood was chipped under the lid, my husband pointed out that there was a sicker on the bottom of the box indicating that lead based paint was used to paint the instuments. In lieu of exchanging the drum, I obviously returned it. It is 2011 and they are using lead paint on instuments that young children will put in their mouths. I was outraged and cannot believe hat this is legal in this day in age.

Great presentation and colors. However, not durable at all - when my 2.5 year old wanted to open the cover of the drum to put the other instruments in, she tore a part of it off very easily without putting any efforts... The sound is very poor as well.

It's Jan 2nd and we have gone through two of these since Dec 25, broken in the same location (design defect). The first one was broken right out of the box around the drum/lid, returned it for a replacement. Today my 4yr old daughter was drumming and then opened the drum/lid which subsequently broke. Possibly the drumming "wedged" the lid and when she pulled the lid off, bits of the seam were left in the groove. Shame as most of this toy appears solid, but the union between the drum base & lid appears to be under designed for it's intended use.

I have never paid more for a toy that lasted no longer than 30 minutes after unwrapping. The "drum" to was so thin that it broke immediately by a 2 yr. old tapping on it with the drum stick. I thought I was buying a quality product from Toys R Us with the name of FAO Schwartz on it. My BIG mistake. I would like my money back as I will have to replace it with something else. Again to anyone considering this toy DO NOT BUY IT. You will be throwing your money away. I would not recommend this to a friend or an enemy.

This is not only durable and cute, the drum doubles as a storage container, which is so very useful. My girls (ages 2 & 3) were so into this gift, they didn't even want to open any others after it. It is the perfect first band for kids!
