I got this to display some of my figures on and it's amazing! You can set it up however you want since the pieces connect in different ways; so it doesn't have to be exactly like on the box or the instructions. I set it up in a long format so it could fit on my shelf, and I was able to pick it up and move it from the floor to my shelf with no pieces coming off since I secured all the pieces firmly. The box was missing 2 pieces (1 wall and 1 three-way connection piece) but I just substituted those with other pieces and it worked fine.
I especially like the towers since they add a lot of cool things you can do with the extra levels.
If I got this when I was a kid then I would have loved that it can come apart because I would have used that as battle damage or assemble the buildings into all kinds of other things.

My son got this for his birthday and when I opened the box, there were close to 200 pieces. I would not even consider the black and white piece of paper that came with it instructions. It took about 1.5 hours to assemble the castle, and once it's assembled, don't even consider moving it - it will easily come apart.

Comments about Toys R Us 1001325 Imaginarium Royal Knights Fortress:

I purchased this item in store for more than half off. For that price, it could have taken days to assemble, and been worth it. However, I know why it was on sale. You have to be an architect in order to put it together. The process was awful! The paper the directions are printed on is butterfly-wing thin and easily ripped. The directions themselves are terrible. It was a major guessing game and a long (3 hour) trial and error process. All the directions show are a few sections blown up and kind of how they fit together. Not a step by step process. I used a combination of the directions plus the pictures on the box to figure out what the darn thing was supposed to look like. Even then, it still took forever because there are over 100 pieces. The worst was when we were 'finished' and had several extra pieces. That was not good. The directions never mentioned extra pieces so I had to figure out where I went wrong or where something was missing. This is why it took so long. Then, the string for the drawbridge was too short. Use a shoestring or good floss. Really annoying!!!

But, the knights (6) and horses (2) that come with the set are Papo or Schleich quality. They are large and quite durable. Not like the flimsy plastic army men. That is one of the redeeming qualities of the set. The knights alone would cost you nearly forty dollars if purchased separately. So, I would recommend to grin and bear it while assembling the set. Your children will love it!

Also, set it up on a large piece of sturdy cardboard or wood so you can move it around easily. A large pizza box will work. If you try to pick it up, it will fall apart. Trust me. I just did this a few minutes ago (table to floor).

I bought this for my son's 3rd birthday, super excited for a toy both he and his older sister can play with. Opened the box to a ton of unlabeled pieces and a instruction sheet that was worse than [@]. My son even managed to break the swords off and we hadn't even finished the assembly of the ground floor. Returned it for the train set, much better value.

My son(3yrs) and I saw this in the store and thought it was the coolest thing. And to top it off it was on Sale for [$]. Couldnt believe it. Grabbed it and checked out even considered grabbing a few for newphews. OMG its wonderful to look at and thats it. Flimsy doesnt stay together at all. Cant move it. Told my husband he either glues it or taking it back to toysrus. I was hoping for so much more. But sadly Ive learned the more expensive a toy the worst it is. I quit paying full price only by clearance.. ugh

This product was really beautiful. It was great to watch my son and husband put it together. But that is I think the extent of its fun. Every time my son touched it something fell off or broke. It came apart so often that the black walkway pieces that act as connectors actual broke apart and could not be used at all. The knights have all lost their arms, shields and swords and that is from my son playing with them on his own, not hitting them into anything or throwing them. He just held one in each hand and gently had a pretend battle between the two knights and arms, and swords just pulled right out of the joints. The only good thing about this set that is sturdy and wonderful and realistically playable are the horses. The horses are great

I gave this as a Christmas gift to my nephew (3-4 yrs).

          The good:
He dropped his new, flashing, talking, transformer to play with the fortress (okay BumbleBee attacked it once).
          Please read that statement again.

          The bad:
Takes an adult to assemble it (good thing I peeked in the box before wrapping it). And it is flimsy.

          Comments:
You know how a young child will play with the box a toy came in, instead of the toy itself. This fortress is that box.

Bought for a 3.5 old. He loves it but the "instructions" that come with the castle are not even of Ikea quality. I just used the picture on the box but spent a lot of time taking apart and re-assembling as I got further along. The walls do not stay together. If you even think about looking at it, it falls apart.

Comments about Toys R Us 1001325 Imaginarium Royal Knights Fortress:

I have put this fortress together more times than the children have attempted to play with it (6 times for me, 0 times for them). The reason is the pieces do not stay together. The pieces are flimsy, cheap pieces of plastic and the slightest movement causes it to come crashing down. In order to make this product worthwhile, the pieces need to be made stronger and interlock more effectively.

It's labeled for kids 3 and up, but should have been labeled for kids 7 and up. The directions for assembly are a black and white photocopy that's practically illegible. The wall pieces that came with the box (solid wall, slit wall, window wall, door wall) don't match up to either the directions or the color photo on the box. Bottom line: don't waste your money or your time trying to make your kids happy with this toy.

I have to agree with others on this one. This thing will not stay together for anything! I have considered super gluing the pieces together but one of the things I liked when i purchased was that we could take it apart. So sad it has not worked out because I usually like Imaginarium products! And of course it was a Christmas present from Santa so there was no way my son was giving it up. Won't make this mistake again!

This fortress looks wonderful - it's everything my 4 year old son wanted. It's also the most frustrating object I've ever owned. He got it for Christmas 2010 and I've put it together (and re-together) at least 15 times. You touch it, it falls apart. You breathe on it, it falls apart. You LOOK at it, it falls apart. I have no idea who they had testing this out before it went to market, but obviously the subjects never touched it or played with it. I would NOT recommend this unless you want a model of a castle to sit somewhere to look at. Also, the knights that come with it are OK, but their swords break off.
