Once upon a time in 1876, there was a locksmith named Andreas Brandstatter. Mr. Brandstatter planted a magical seed that would eventually blossom into Playmobil by founding an eponymous lock and metal fitting company in Furth, Germany. By the 1930s, Playmobil's pretend play had again been redefined; manufacturing telephones, cash registers, and various items for toy shops using sheet metal. At the beginning of the 1950s, Horst Brandstatter, the Playmobil's current owner, came on board and started a new era in the company history. He updated Playmobil pretend play products, searched out new markets and focused production on his favorite material, plastic. In 1958, the hula hoop craze gripped the world, and Horst Brandstatter was determined to perfect the pretend play toy that would inspire further exploration. Realizing that the technique, using air pressure, hot plastic hoses, and shape molds, could also produce basically any shape (in addition to the traditional bottles and hoops), Mr. Brandstatter created the first prototype Playmobil pretend play item, a closed racing car manufactured in a single production step. From that point on, the company expanded rapidly with products in toys. Playmobil was introduced at the 1974 International Toy Fair in Nuremberg and by using an innovative marketing strategy, parents and children responded uniformly with fascination and enthusiasm, to Playmobil.

Excellent social learning toy! Just plain fun! Great to reinact social learning and model social skills as well as developing thematic play that is age appropriate even for older kiddos with and without cognitive developmental differences , I bought for my classroom serving children with emotional dysfunction and we have spent hours with this. I often hear the kiddos (1st-5th grade/all on grade level academically)mimicing scenerios that have occured to them in class as if they are practicing their social skills and often redoing scenerios they may have gotten in trouble with, a better way. We all LOVE THIS, and as with all toys of this quality ,construction, and durability plan to put on a movie and put this together prior to introducing.

Looked like a good idea, but once I started looking at it, I realized what a pain in the butt this was going to be to put together. This has several hundered if not a thousand pieces, and almost each and every piece has to be assembled. There are these little snaps that hold it all together, and they all have to be clipped into each part to put it together. Had I realized how much time it would take to put it together, I would have passed on this purchase. I just hope that once it's all together, it's a stable unit. Another problem I've encountered, is the assembly instructions show you how to put it together,but some of the pieces interfere with one another when you try to put one piece together with another piece. Either the pieces are not correct, or the instructions are incorrect.

A little expensive at full price, but definitely worth it during a BOGO 50% off sale! We planned on getting the Toys R Us version, which is smaller but still pretty inclusive, but then they ran the sale and it allowed us to get two big Playmobil sets for the same price as buying the smaller version and the other set. Very happy with the quality, as always with Playmobil. Nice to have those German safety standards with kids who chew on everything.

      Would have given it 5 stars, except just what others had warned about....the thousands of pieces and the length of time it takes to assemble. It did take almost 4 full hours to assemble but nothing too horrible, the directions are pretty detailed and self explanatory. Absolutely worth every penny!! My seven year old daughter plays for hours with her school and hospital!!! Just Love Playmobil!!

        The first thing about this item has to be the amount of time it will take you to build/set-up the school as pictured on the box. My 5-year-old and I spent about 5 hours putting it together. The instructions are simple but there are about 6,000 pieces to built-out or attach. This is not a complaint of any kind just disclosing the facts. My son and I actually enjoyed the process of getting your tools and materials and bulding a structure. Also, not sure if I'd spend the full price of this item ([$] but if you can find this school on discount/sale for under $100 as we did, it is worth the price--lots of hours of interactive play.

          My 4 year old daughter received this school (the full-version) for Christmas. It does come with endless pieces and it did take several hours for both my husband and I to put together. However, in the end, she has played with it constantly since we did get it together. There are no other play schools out there for children to play with and this one does come with each and every unique piece, right down to little backpacks and art supplies. I believe Playmobil toys are some of the most durable toys out there and they are always very unique compared to other things you can buy that may be similar. They may take a long time to put together, but it is completely worthwhile in the end!

          I was lucky or shall I say unlucky enough to assemble this on Christmas Eve. Don't get me wrong I think it is a fantastic item and my niece loved it. I do however recommend that playmobile do a better job with the instructions. And an extra tool for assembly would be nice. And is it really necessary for each individual piece to be put together. This is a GREAT purchase just be prepared to spend a couple hours putting it together.
