Product Description

CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.

Add roads to your LEGO town! Expand your LEGO town with this set of straight and crossroad plates. Includes one straight plate and one cross plate.

To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. Historians point to the invention of the wheel as a major turning point in world history. The invention of the LEGO wheel had the same monumental effect in the history of LEGO, making it possible to create cars, trucks and eventually the LEGO train building set that is one of the most successful LEGO sets of all time. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

These look nice, and work well with my sons' newer garbage, dump, fire, trailer trucks. However, they are slightly over-priced in general. My biggest complaint by far is the choices in the two-packs. We wanted to build an oval. We needed eight curves and ten straights to have a nice-size layout that still fits in our play space. That means a whole bunch of t-intersections and crossroads that I shelled out a small fortune for are now collecting dust (now I have to spend time trying to sell or trade these extra pieces). I understand the need for those pieces (and we will keep a few for future layouts), but it would be very nice to be able to buy a two-pack of just straights or just curves (and perhaps a two-pack with one t-intersection, one crossroad?). In short, if you are starting out building a city, these are good-looking, wide roads. They work well with the current generation of vehicles. If you are on a budget, they are not wallet-friendly. The choice in the two-packs is mind-blowingly poor, in my opinion.

Just good. Here's why: Suppose I want four straight plates-one for each side of the crossroad plate, plus additional straight plates to extend the straight road further. It means I have to buy more than four sets of 7280. I don't need that many crossroad plates! I would rate the plate design as Best because it does fit in well with the City Lego pieces. However, the fact that you cannot buy single or bulk straight plates of this design (same for the crossroad plate) bodes well only for the Lego Sales folks. Marketing should rethink this mistep.

Too Expensive, limited selection

from Melbourne

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

A re-iteration of what everyone else is posting. I have Lego boards from when I was a child. However, since Lego has increased the track between the wheels of the new vehicles, the old boards are all but useless. We have accumulated a significant Lego collection overt the last few years and building a Lego City is proving to be prohibitively expensive as we have to purchase a straight and a crossroad when all we need is a straight. Lego, you should increase your product line to include packs of two straights, two crossroads, two curves and two T-junctions. I wrote a letter to Lego customer service stating as such and I encourage all dedicated Lego fans to do the same!

Great product, ok pricing, terrible pairing

By Stuart

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

These (along with the curved and T intersections) look great for finishing your city, especially if you collect the modular buildings. There's just one fatal flaw with this set. It's impossible to use 4-way intersections and straight roads at a 1-1 ratio. This would leave you with city blocks that are just one baseplate, and make your city surface 75% roads. At most, you have 2x2 blocks of all corner buildings and need a straight to crossroad ratio of 4-1. In reality, I'm going to use straights at 6-1 or 8-1. It gets even worse if I want to replace the cross pieces with corners or t-intersections. Bottom line is that I'm paying $15 each for straight plates. They're an ok buy at $7.50, so being forced to also buy useless intersections makes this package a terrible choice. Sell the straights by themselves (2 packs are fine). Put the crosswalk into the pack with the corner and T. If you *must* have a variety pack, create a straight road plate with parallel parking or a valet/taxi loading area.

Not really a smart buy

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

I pulled out my old lego roadplates and the non 32x32 roadplates from the attic to build my kids an lego city. Since my kids got lego vehicles from lego city, they were wanting to have roads with them. They were given this set by a family member and then I checked the stores and online stores for the roadplates of lego city. Unfortunately I was shocked... Only because there were 2 sets and you can't buy the road plates seperately anymore like when I was a kid with the grey plates. Because of this I dug deep on the attic for my old lego road plates, now they have an lego city but the vehicles are a bit wider then the vehicles I had in my youth. I hope Lego will reconsider these packs and also make them cheaper because they cost tripple or more then the old plates did in the 80's. I don't want to buy a lot of straights and crossing only for the straights. The way I (re-)built the city for my kids only has 2 crossings 10 corners, 4 T and a lot of straights. If I had to buy these new roadplates I would have spent an fortune on them. Though do not get me wrong.. they look great and they allow for the new era vehicles to ride over them and stay between the roadlines. So my thumbs up on the detail of the plates, but thumbs down on the price and set selection. I rly hate giving bad review to Lego because I had sooo much fun in my youth with this toybrand.. my kids love Lego too..

It's a long road

I cannot emphasise enough the need for just a straight plate pack, even if it was a double. No Lego builder needs that many cross roads or corner pieces.

    Great for LEGO City Fans

    By ninjalegoboy9389

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

This item is great for City fans, but the price is definitely overpriced. In order to have a good road layout you would need $160/£110. Buy this road layout, I mean just a simple one with cross junctions turns etc. I believe lego needs to make a new version of this set, as it is cheaper using a 32x32 grey plate and building a road out of tiles for this set. You can definitely make a far better road if you copy the sets design.

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

If you would like to add more building space, or would just like to make your city look more realistic, then this set is for you. The baseplates are 32 studs by 32 studs, and come in dark grey with white road lines and even have extra details such as gutters on the side, which look visually appealing and are also durable - these are very hard to scratch off. There are also spaces for building, with a width of 7 studs, not as many as its predecessors but good enough for things like bus stops, road signs, stands, etc. Like the Curved & T Junction baseplates, there is only one drawback with this set, and that's the price. Despite the great quality of these baseplates, the price is quite steep, especially if you're planning to purchase a few of these at once. Overall, I would definetly recommend this as an essential for any LEGO city, they look great and will last a very long time, but you may want to think twice about the price.

    Love the Roadplates, but...

    By Devaud

Comments about LEGO Supplementary Straight & Crossroad (7280):

I love the roadplates and glad I bought them when I did. A couple of years ago, you could buy the same thing for $7.99. Now their $14.99. Pros: ~ Great for a city ~ Good pairing Cons: ~ Very expensive now ~ Road could probably be one more stud wider on both sides.
