No more disposable batteries! This rechargeable battery box has build-in Li polymer batteries to ensure low weight and powerful action. Use this in your LEGO Power Functions models and end your need for disposable batteries!

To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together. The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. Historians point to the invention of the wheel as a major turning point in world history. The invention of the LEGO wheel had the same monumental effect in the history of LEGO, making it possible to create cars, trucks and eventually the LEGO train building set that is one of the most successful LEGO sets of all time. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

This is pretty good if you don't want to keep going to the store and buy some batteries, and great for lego system building, but if you want to use this in a technic creation, don't bother, because it's really hard to install even with technic 1x8 bricks. If you want this for a technic set, just wait for a new rechargeable battery box to come out.

Lego Rechargeable battery

By Chere

from Pasadena, CA, USA

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

Please read all the reviews. This item is light, powerful, a little pricey and requires the Lego charger. IT IS GREAT FOR TRAINS. Not mentioned in the reviews is the benefit of light weight. When I powered the Toy Story and Lone Ranger trains I put the motor in the tender and the battery in a trailing car. The weight of the battery caused wheel spin. The tender had to be weighted to increase traction and keep the wheels from spinning. With the new Winter Holiday Train weighting the motor seemed difficult but using the much lighter rechargeable battery almost ended wheel spin. I recommend it. I applaud Lego for their design of the Holiday Train and hope you offer a power option on these cute trains in the future. It is hard to alter them without your design and usually requires extra bricks and parts (special orders). You seem to make one this size once each 3 years and I look forward to the next one.

Really Good Product

By griffithbuilder

from Oak Park

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

I got this and I used it for all my trains, it lasts longer than the battery pack one and on the trains, instead of taking it out, you just take the cover off and plug it in. I just don't like the price Pros: Lasts longer, Rechargeable, Easy To Use Cons: Too Pricey And Comes With NO CHARGER

Good for long trains

By BVG9Volt

from Erembodegem

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

I bought my 3th rechargeable battery box for one of my Lego trains. I prefer the rechargeable one above the AAA-battery box because the power is higher which is good for a long train. Otherwise you don't have to take out the battery box of the train each time to change the AAA-batteries. You have only leave a hole where can connect the DC-adapter. The price is high but it gives a lot of power and the train can run a long time.

Lasts much longer then AAA battery box

By NTBone

from Seattle

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

Ran my train in BrickCon this year. It has two engines, so a battery box on each end. One was the Lithium and one was the AAA box. The Lithium one lasted almost twice as long. Bought a second so the train can be powered by 2 lithium boxes.

Very Useful For Lego PF Train Fans

By MrAugs

from SALT LAKE CITY

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

Ok, after burning through alkaline AAA batteries like crazy for the first PF train set we purchased, we upgraded to rechargeable AAA batteries which we still use. However, as our train collection has grown, the need for more battery boxes has increased. While expensive, we decided this rechargeable battery box was worth a try. We are glad we got it! Charging time is less than than our rechargeable AAA batteries, and run time is very good. My best example: We have an expanded Hogwarts Express 4841. We built an extra coach, an observation car, a flat car to carry the Weasly flying car, and a baggage car. We house the the PF parts in the baggage car. Even powering two PF train motors mounted to the baggage car, the rechargeable box runs for a solid 2.5 hours. Powering the standard Yellow Cargo Train, it runs for a little over 3 hours. I think the box is worth the price, but the power cord you need to charge it is over-priced. There are less expensive options out there. Overall, a good investment if you are running Lego PF trains on a regular basis.

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

This is a great deal it is made for you people who use Lego and power functions it has long life good charge time and stops when your out of battery IT DOESN'T slow down. If your like me then in your house you more then likely have a charger for this product I did. Look at what type of charger it is and see if you have it. THIS IS GREAT a little on the expensive side but that is fine. YOU SHOULD GET THIS!

Great battery

By robotsNtrains

from Sunnyvale

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

We have two of these batteries for our trains, one of them we've had for over a year. They charge quickly, will run a train a very long time on a charge, and have very little self-discharge sitting on the shelf. Yes, they are pricey, but at least you only need to buy one charger for all of your batteries.

Pin Holes???

By sammy4791

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box (8878):

Great concept. Not so great design. A slightly longer or wider housing to accommodate a few pin holes would have been a relatively small increase in size for a huge gain in implementation. The PWM dial, however, is a nice touch offering the ability to control speed remotely. Overall, quite compact and long-lasting battery box. Would be well worth the money if not for the aforementioned flaw. -S
