Product Description

CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.

Light up the dark! Add bright LED lights to your LEGO Power Functions models to light your way in the darkness.

To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together. The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. Historians point to the invention of the wheel as a major turning point in world history. The invention of the LEGO wheel had the same monumental effect in the history of LEGO, making it possible to create cars, trucks and eventually the LEGO train building set that is one of the most successful LEGO sets of all time. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

This outputs a really nice soft white light. I used an array of 12 of these LED units to created a 24 LED flashlight powered by a hand crank dynamo which was bright enough so one could read a book at night if the book was about three feet away. With a Lego Education Energy Meter X1, I built a rechargeable Flashlight powering one LED assembly; The Energy Meter was able to power the LEDs from about 9.5 volts to as low as 8.0 Volts. The Energy Meter measured that the LED's current drain at 9 Volts was at .001 Amperes (.009 Watts). The only thing I would change with this particular LED design is the elimination of the black 2x2 brick that is between the wiring connector and the two LED lights - because more often than not the black 2x2 brick was was in my way when I had to do cable management. If I could add something it would be scaleable parabolic reflector to hold one or two LEDs AND a Lego-Power-Function-connector to the Legos-eLabs-connector cable.

Twice we received a new set of lights. They do not function at all. We bought the set Lego Technic 8293. The motor is okay, because there is rotation, both when directly on the battery and by the switch. In all cases, the lights did not shine.

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Light (8870):

I got these to enhance the look of my Lego Disney Castle and Lego Avengers Helicarrier. The LED lights are small and the wires are thin that it is easily hidden. The only thing that can be improved is if they would come with multi colors. You do need to buy the battery pack in order for this to work.

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Light (8870):

I put this in my 7939 Cargo Train and they work great! I had to remove some parts and and disassemble areas to get them in but it was worth it. They add more detail and are surprisingly bright. I put them on my second channel of the remote so I can control the brightness. I would highly recommend putting this on any train you you can!

        Wall-E, an instant favorite

        By RichWinstanley

        from London

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Light (8870):

I bought this model as soon as it came out, but due to its popularity, there was (and still is) an order delay. The demand for this model was instantly understood upon build completion. The attention to detail, quality and playability are of the highest degree here. The completed model is so full of character it kind of feels alive. What is really fun, is how easy it is to turn this into a remote control version. Search YouTube for examples. The novelty of driving this around my living room is going to take a long time to get old. 10/10

Comments about LEGO Power Functions Light (8870):

It's well built and reliable, Love the light!!! and it dims with the remote!!! so you can choose intensity of light, not very strong luminosity although. cheap and does the work. The Horizon Express train CREATOR EXPERT SET doesn't come with power functions included so had to buy it. and it was so worth it!!!

Key and inexpensive element for bringing to life some of your favorite Lego creations. Easy to use. Easy to install (with directions easy to find online), and it adds another element of "coolness" to your finished Lego product
