DISREGARD ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS STATING THAT THE HEARTBEAT SOUND IS NOT REALISTIC. As a physician and a mom, I can assure you that one of the sounds is precisely what your little angel has been listening to for the past 40ish weeks. The sound mimics the mother's aorta/iliac arteries, and if you've ever listened to a vascular doppler, you'll appreciate it. Just because there are some parents who don't like the "harshness" of the sound doesn't mean that your little one doesn't feel right at home because of it. Your infant is not used to a manufactured "lub dub" heartbeat that adults consider a "normal" heartbeat sound. I have used this product for the past 21 months with my daughter, and she was sleeping 10 hours through the night by 6 weeks old (thanks also in part to the book 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old), which I HIGHLY recommend as well.

I bought this for our newborn baby to help drown out the noise of our house, etc when she was napping or sleeping at night. The good things about this noise maker are that it's small and portable and that it takes batteries and doesn't have to be plugged in all the time. That being said, those positives pale in comparison to the negatives. The volume of the sound is low and barely even gets loud enough to negate the sounds I make when leaving the room, let alone the other sounds outside the room or house. The power button has a blue fluorescent light that is on all the time that is fairly bright and flickers to the beat of the sound that's on. The center button is the "night light" which is actually a blue fluorescent light that also flickers to the beat of the sound that's on. I have no idea why they made this feature because when the machine is on (and/or the "night light") my baby just stares at the flickering light that illuminates the dark room!! I had to tape a piece of black paper over the lights to stop this from distracting my daughter. I will be returning this as soon as I can make it back to Babies R Us :(

Comments about The First Years Sounds for Silence Premium Nursery Sound Machine:
Though my baby loves and it puts him right to sleep. Daddy doesn't like it so much and thinks the melody it plays is annoying and super loud at night. As Mommy I like anything that keeps the baby asleep all night. So baby win Daddy will just have to deal lol.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This works great in my kids room. I have always had music on since they were born and when my last one died I bought this one. I love the variety of classical music it plays. I gave it a 4 not a 5 only because I wish the nightlight was a little brighter but other than that I recommend it!
Love this product

At first I did not like the sounds but we have found that this works great once we took the time to read about the product
Great machine. I have even used it for myself to sleep at night. I like the soft light it can emit and i also like the sound varieties.
I would buy this product again and again

Awesome noise maker!
from Houston, TX
My son has always fallen asleep easier to white noise so this noise maker was a great choice. Its really cool cause it has a little aux cord so we can also use it to play little baby songs. I would highly recommend this product :)
I love this sound machine and have grown to depend on it. The sound aspect is a requirement for getting my baby to sleep but the light is what I really depend on. It's bright enough to see in a dark room, but the light doesn't wake you up.
I would not buy this product again

About Me Casual Driver
We use the night light, which we love Bc it's not too bright yet it illuminates our sons room well. We also enjoy the timer aspect for the music/sound.Other than those we have nothing positive about the machine. The sound quality is very poor and we have not found a music setting with all slower soothing tunes.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Great for light, volume is too loud, needs Bluetooth
from Miami, fl
I was gifted this machine off my registry, and am overall happy with the product. The music is all different variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star piano only. Unfortunately, my baby would cry or cry harder if she was already crying when I would play the music. The heartbeats mimick the sound inside the womb, but did not soothe my baby at night. You can hook up your iPhone for additional music, and there is a blue nightlight on top. I use the nightlight the most! I LOVE the blue light, I think it relaxes my baby and is something familiar for her to see when we travel. My baby is only 3 months and is just now starting to like music, so I will try to use the sound again to see if it helps her sleep longer, and I like being able to hook up my iPhone. The only negatives are the volume doesn't go low enough, and it would be easier if it had Bluetooth. I feel like the volume was always too loud and maybe that's why she didn't like it??
Great for the price
from Mountain View, CA
This works great in my sons nursery. We moved to a busy street and this helps keep the road noise down (or at least distract from it). The music is nice. The white noise sounds are a little weird, but they do the trick. I like the nightlight and the fact that I can connect an Mp3 player to it. Great price on sale!
