To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. Historians point to the invention of the wheel as a major turning point in world history. The invention of the LEGO wheel had the same monumental effect in the history of LEGO, making it possible to create cars, trucks and eventually the LEGO train building set that is one of the most successful LEGO sets of all time. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

I finished my Lego Tower set yesterday and the only disappointment I have is that I finished it. LOL I loved doing this set and wish there were a lot of other sets that are 4000 plus pieces. The detail in this set was amazing and I liked putting on the 556 little pieces to give it the detail. I received all the pieces and a few extra ones. Not one piece missing. I also built everything on the dining room table and then assembled it on a 1/2" W x 12" D x 42" long piece of wood on the table where I am displaying the Tower. I was going to move the piece of wood after I had everything on it but decided to take the completed pieces to the table where I'm going to display the tower and then put the final connections together. Some people complained because when they moved it, it fell apart. Because it's so long, if you don't have support under it, it will fall apart. That's not Lego's fault. I'd say that's the builders fault for not thinking ahead. Another person said he built it in 4-5 hrs and then it fell apart when he moved it. I have no clue how you can put this together in 4-5 hours and expect it to stay together. Another person said they were missing 25 pieces! I wasn't missing any - even had some extras. I do know that if you are missing pieces, you can go to Lego.com and order missing pieces for free. It puts your project on hold but that's just life. I also buy all of my Lego sets from Lego.com. They are packaged so well so that when they arrive, the box isn't damaged and no pieces can fall out. I've heard some other places send damaged boxes. Anyway, I loved doing this project. Next I'm working on the last building for my modular buildings. Just became available a week ago. It's the Movie Palace. I now have all 5 modular buildings that are available and my Tower. Wish I had the Taj Mahal but I can't afford to pay $2,000 for Lego Set. I'll just wait and see if something big comes out again - hint to Lego ;-) My addiction to building Legos started this past December when my kids and grandkids gave me the modular Town Hall. Now I'm hooked :-)

First the good: I spent about a week of evenings putting this together with my wife. It's a pretty fun build and works great with two people because you can each work on a tower simultaneously. The set has a huge variety of pieces and packs a lot of detail into the model. And now the bad: Then came time to move it from the coffee table to the office. Well, the outer bridge sections come away easy enough, but the walkways lock the two towers together, so I tried picking up both towers together with disastrous results. The whole thing simply disintegrated in my hands on the way. Sorting through the aftermath, I found that over 200 of the 1x1 slopes had split down the middle. Fortunatley, LEGO customer service is fantastic and they repleced them for me.So there are two fundamental problems with this model: 1) The structural integrity is terrible, and for something as straightforward as a tower, this seems kind of silly. 2) It lacks a straightforward modular design that would allow you to separate the towers so you can more securely move it in sections.I did get some parts from [@] to modify the walkways. Now I can easily separate the bridge sections and walkways from the towers. It's such an obvious design flaw that I'm surprised this thing made it past quality assurance.Bottom line: I do not recommend this set. If you do get it, you'll want to disassemble the walkways and pull the towers apart before moving it from your build surface to wherever you want to display it.

Superb weekends putting this beast together!

By Eebolegoman

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

A great, very detailed, enjoyable build. This is the first non-Star Wars theme build I have bought as I move towards the larger and cheaper models. It was a good decision, if like me, you find the larger models more fun to complete. I enjoy long, complicated things so I selected this model and I was very happy with it. I read some other reviews before I purchased this model and elected to construct both the towers at the same time as to not find the build a tad repetitive, for me this worked out well. As I mentioned above this is my first non-Star Wars build as i believe the premium for large SS sets is too high and there is not too many options after you own the Sand Crawler, Death Star etc etc. I have now purchased my first LEGO Technic model, the Mercedes Truck as this also looks a challenge. PS, how do people build these 3000+ piece models in 4 hours?????

AMAZING

By Cropduster

from Lexington

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

Title says it all people. Not that I need to go on, but for the sake of you skeptics that can't decide whether or not to buy this, I will. To start, this set is a PHENOMENAL display piece! It is absolutely massive! The value is absurd in comparison to what lego sets are going of these days. If this set were priced at the average 10-12 cents per piece, It would cost over $400! The build time for me was 15 hours and it was an unforgettable experience. I will admit, it was sort of hard to construct, but only because the bags were not numbered. I would not count that against the set as I feel it only adds to the experience. If you are even thinking about getting this, then DO IT NOW!!! Even if for some stupid reason you don't like it after you've bought it, never fear! You will undoubtedly get your money's worth and then some on the aftermarket in a few years. Anyways, that's all from me. I hope this helped :)

The end justifies the journey

By Whoopde

from Cincinnati

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

As has been mentioned by many reviewers this kit does not have numbered bags. This results in the set being a starting pile of over 4000 mostly beige pieces. To me this isn't really a negative, but it does result in the set being more of a 3D jigsaw puzzle. I usually don't do much pre-sorting, but for this set I did some pre-sorting, mostly by color. I also kept the cheese wedges and some of the small pieces in separate containers. The end result of this pile of over 4000 standard Lego pieces is an almost breathtaking impression of the London Tower Bridge. Your patience in sorting through and assembling all of these little light beige pieces will be highly rewarded. The Tower Bridge, along with the Sydney Opera House are the only currently available large landmark structure kits. Other kits in this class are the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, and Statue of Liberty, which are no longer available at retail. Needless to say if one is interested in these types of sets, it is better to purchase them when the sets are still available at retail list prices. I have heard a rumor that Lego is planning to produce a Big Ben Clock Tower kit. If this rumor is true, Big Ben and The Tower bridge will be a great paired set. Also, on a price per piece basis, the Tower Bridge is a bargain.

A Must Have in the Creator Series

By Forzaps

from San Jose

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

The build is fun and the finished model is a great piece to display on the coffee table or mantle. At times during the build, there seem to be an infinite number of 1x1 bricks, but its totally worth it - the building wouldn't have that masonry look if they used larger bricks. Pictures don't do this model justice, that said, here are a couple of pics.

Never too old for Lego

By newtolego71

from Lincoln

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

Tower Bridge has been an absolute delight to build. I have never built with Lego before this year. Have plenty of experience with Duplo after a career of looking after children under 5, but this is something different, but very addictive. This is only my 3rd Lego build but found the instructions so explicit that no room for error. As others have pointed out the largest part of this is sorting out the 4000+ pieces as I also sort my kits into colour bricks before I start. I enjoy jigsaws and crosswords but these had been put to one side because of the enjoyment value of building Tower Bridge. Excellent product and although pricey well worth every penny.

Fun set... Difficult build

By N1CHOLAS

from Wake Forest

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

This is by far the best, and most difficult, set to build. I had to sell my Lego Hogwarts Castle (4842) in order to get the money for this set. I was worried that I might regret selling it, but after building this set I realized that it was definitely worth it. The only recommendation that I would make to make this set better is to have a little boat that comes with it so that there is a reason to have the drawbridge go up and down. Other than that, the set is perfect.

Pretty much perfect

By Kinibo

from Grande Prairie

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

Reading some of the other reviews here, I have to say I’m surprised at how quickly others are able to finish a build of this size. Granted, I do like to savor the experience, but I can’t really relate to how so many others have the ability, or the desire for that matter, to blast through something like this in an evening or two. One of my little but significant joys in life is to retire after supper down to the basement with a cup of coffee and spend a couple of hours working on a Lego set. So for this build, I take no issue with the bags not being numbered, and I didn’t care about building both towers at the same time to expedite the procedure. For the money this costs, and for the fact that I’ll only do this set once, anything that serves to prolong the experience is fine by me. I started by sorting the pieces, and I found a 32-compartment hardware organizer for the tiny pieces and five larger plastic containers were just about perfect for my needs. There are more different types of pieces than that, but some can be grouped together, such as pieces that are the same type but different colors. I was a little concerned initially by just how many small (really small) pieces make up the majority of the piece count for this model. Having not actually started the build yet, I found myself wondering if this represented a sort of compromise, and I found myself silently saying, “Yeah, over 4000 pieces, but 3000 of them you almost need a microscope to see. By the time I got about a half hour into the build, however, I began to realize it’s the tiny pieces that make up so much of the fine detail of the structure. This is far more than just a bunch of clunky blocks stacked together in a rough approximation of the tower bridge; it’s an intricate and visually appealing structure, and something that can be appreciated both from a distance and also upon closer inspection. The box classifies the difficulty level of this set as Expert, but I imagine that is more a reflection of the number of pieces than the actual challenge. I would venture that anyone willing and able to follow basic instructions would have little trouble successfully completing this. The three volume manual clearly lays out what you need to do, brick by brick, step by step. Those like me who primarily enjoy the process will appreciate this. If there are others like me who read these reviews to, among other things, get a sense of how much building time you get for your money, then this paragraph is for you. How long you get to actually “play with it? I don’t dawdle, but neither do I rush the process, and by the time I was done I had spent 19 hours over two weeks to complete the build. All told, 4-1/2 hours to sort the pieces, and 14-1/2 hours to assemble. As for the finished product, I would venture to say it’s beautiful. In my opinion, you can display this set in any home and it wouldn’t look out of place. The details are excellent, and it has a definite cool factor. I would buy it again in a second. The only downside is that I eventually did complete it. Like finishing a good book, I feel a slight sense of loss now that our time together is over.

An impressive center piece

By Hermesh

from Gjøvik

Comments about LEGO Creator Tower Bridge (10214):

A somewhat repetitive build, but great fun for two people to build together, since the two towers are identical. You'll need some available space to exhibit this one, but it's sure to get a lot of attention from visitors, Lego fans or not. It looks great! :) Hard to tell how long it took to build, since we put up the towers simultaneously, and we did it over three evenings. Bags are not numbered, which is kind of a drag...
