There are so many options these days when it comes to car seats so you want to make sure you research and find a car seat that will work for your family and baby! Safety 1st helps you to start your little one off on the right road with the onBoard 35 Air Infant Car Seat featuring Air Protect Side Impact Technology."Safety 1st engineers designed Air Protect using next generation testing methods that simulate the most violent types of side impact crashes, those with vehicle intrusion. Using this advanced methodology, Air Protect was engineered to defend your child in two vital ways. During a crash, the system immediately shields your child's head from the impact. In a second layer of defense, Air Protect allows air to escape from the headrest: channeling crash energy away from your child, creating more ride down time. It is this double layer of protection that makes Air Protect technology unique."That's a pretty confusing method but basically what it means is Safety 1st realized that 1 in 4 car crashes involving children are side impact collisions and they are the deadliest type of collision for children, accounting for 1 in 3 child fatalities; nearly all of which are caused by head trauma- so they set out to find a seat that would help prevent this and they succeeded! The Safety 1st onBoard 35 Air Infant Car Seat features:-Rear facing 4-35 pounds and up to 32 inches in height-Featuring Air Protect revolutionary side impact technology-Immediately reduces side impact forces through the precise release of air-Extended use from a tiny 4 to a full 35 pounds-17% more leg room than most infant car seats-Customizable insert and low harness slots make the seat ideal for preemies and adjustable for growing babies-Carry Curve Handle features ergonomic design-Base Belt Lock easily secures your vehicle seat belt during installation-One Click LATCH installation systemEmmitt fit perfectly in this seat at eight months old and still at over one year fits with room to grow. Normally by one year you have to switch to a convertible car seat because there just it no room for your little ones feet to fit. The fact that this car seat can hold a child up to 32 inches tall with 17% more leg room makes this car seat one that will last much longer. This seat boasts four harness slot positions and three crotch strap positions so you can get a great fit!Safety 1st car seats are known for being super easy to transport and this seat does not let me down. The specially designed Carry Curve handle makes this handle super easy for me to carry to and from the house and store. Because the seat is so easy to carry, there are very few jerks and movements that shake the car seat too much. Therefore if I take Emmitt out of the car and he is sleeping, the odds of him staying asleep the entire time we are in the store are very high! With this seat there is no risk of the handle not being locked for safety lifting because there is an indicator that shows green when the handle is locked!I love that Safety 1st added the most important information about the car seat to stickers and placed them on the side of the car seat. I recommend reading every manual for every baby gear item you get but I know that some people do not do that (or forget). These simple, easy to read stickers help with installation and show you where the straps and top of the car seat must be for your child to be safe.I have never had a baby leave the hospital under 6lbs. But some times things happen and moms and dads are blessed with teeny tiny bundles to take home. However there are very few seats that you can fit a 4 or 5lb baby in. Most infant seats do claim they start at 4 to 5lbs but they simply don't fit small newborns and preemies all that well. The onBoard 35 Air literally looks like it was designed with preemies in mind. From the small chest clip, to the specifically newborn designed angle ball (the lower 45 degree angle helps smaller babies whose heads still flop forward prevent airway obstruction) , to the customizable insert and low harness slots this seat is perfect for big and tiny babies alike! The latch base is also very easy to use. There is a foot that allows you to adjust the recline angle. It is super easy to increase or decrease the height you need. I love the upgraded latch hooks with push button instead of the old fashioned clips. This base was so easy to get tight and secure into my seat. You can use the Safety 1st Clic It! Universal Infant Car Seat Carrier to make this a travel system too!Disclaimer- I received this seat free of charge to review it and share my opinions.

I purchased this product for my daughter and I regret spending a penny for it. My husband wanted to purchase the Chicco set and I was more interested in saving a few bucks. Plue the Safety 1st brand had no recalls. Unfortunately, the products quality is extremely poor. The sun shade has completed disconnected from the seat and the plactic portion pieces are stripping. In addition, The fabric inside the seat is rolling up and stripping. We have had the seat for 7 months and I wish I would have listened to my husband and purchased the Chicco set. You definitely get what you pay for with this product!

Comments about Safety 1st onBoard35 Air Infant Car Seat - Great Lakes:

Since we were expecting twins we picked out seats rated for preemies for our registry. I had picked out this one for our boy and another for our girl. When this one came in I returned the other one and bought another one of these because I liked this one so much. Our twins were both over six pounds and fit perfectly but had they been smaller these still would have been great. We have absolutely love these car seats. It seems like everywhere we go someone asks about them. My twins do not mind being in their seats at all. The seats have plenty of cushion that makes them comfortable. The only thing that I can say negative about them is that the kids can get quite warm sitting in them so I make sure that they have air on them to keep them cool. We have been using them for 11 months now and if I would buy them again if I had to.

Comments about Safety 1st onBoard35 Air Infant Car Seat - Great Lakes:

We were unfortunately in a side impact car wreck yesterday involving a truck that hit our passenger car traveling around 40mph. Our 3 month old son was riding in a Safety 1st onboard 35 car seat. He only cried upon impact, mostly from being scared. For precaution reasons we had him checked at the hospital and they said he came out with absolutely NO injuries and that the car seat definitely did it's job. The main impact was at the rear driver side. There is no worse feeling then getting in a wreck with your child in the car. I am SOOOO grateful we decided to use Safety 1st car seats. I owe them my upmost grattitude for keeping our child safe when we needed it the most. I 100% RECOMMEND this product as well as any other Safety1st product to parents.
        From a very relieved parent.

Comments about Safety 1st onBoard35 Air Infant Car Seat - Great Lakes:

We looked at a lot of car seats before we had our daughter. I also did a LOT of research on different car seats and travel systems. My husband was very picky about the mechanics of them as well as the material. We both agreed on this one and 1 year later, we couldn't be happier. Not only does this car seat work for a newborn, but it goes up to 35 lbs!! Our daughter is very small, so she is 11 months old and only 17 lbs.

This car seat has gotten a lot of use, and is still in GREAT shape. Some other people said that they have had problems with the quality of the material, falling apart, etc. but it sounds like an isolated case.. I would have taken it back or called the manufacturer. I know some people think it is a little heavy as well...but the way I see it is, any car seat is going to be heavy with a baby in it. And as long as it keeps her safe and comfortable, I really don't care how heavy it is... The straps are extremely easy to adjust. We have put the cover in the washing machine several times, and it is still in great shape. It really is a great buy.

Comments about Safety 1st onBoard35 Air Infant Car Seat - Great Lakes:

Used it as the infant car seat that lasts a long time because of the added weight and height requirements. My daughter now 15 months is still using it even though she is in the 98 percentile for height.
Hence, even now when I go shoppong, she sleeps in teh car seat and I just pick it up and put her in the stroller without waking her up.
This is good and for some this seat may last well upto 2 years with the new rear facing requirement upto 2 yrs.

Cons- The seat os longer and hence eats up too much of leg space in the back and my husband cannot push back his passenger seat all the way hence reducing leg space for passenger. Also we cannot indtall it behind the drivers seat for the same reason.

Still a nice looking carseat.

*Only thing is I have found that it's not compatible with most shopping carts. So now I just use a carrier.
It's worth the money and I think it will hold my baby for more than 12 months. Loved it as soon as I saw it. Preemies and newborns will fit just fine the carseat has it padded in the right places to protect the head.

Comments about Safety 1st onBoard35 Air Infant Car Seat - Great Lakes:

After researching SEVERAL infant carriers, I'm so happy I decided on this one! It looks great & has been a great seat for my son (he's 6 months old). It's very easy to take it in & out of the car, the base is easy to set up, the straps are easy to tighten & loosen and when I've had to move the straps as my son has grown, I've been able to do it very quickly. My only problem with this seat is the sunshade - it tore a little on one side, but that's so minor in comparison to how much I like about the seat. I also have the stroller frame thing for this seat & I love that too. Very easy to use & so convenient to keep in the car. I would definitely recommend purchasing this product, you won't be disappointed!
