The Lord of Skull Spiders is an incredible set that features a gripping function through the use of Technic. His legs are translucent orange and black, and is first and second row of legs have white spikes. You can move his jaw up and down and his head left to right. He is very durable and tough so pieces won't break off easily. Pros: He is very creepy looking and is a great depiction of a Large Spider in the Bionicle world. His legs are posable which incorporates with the "snatching" action of the mask like on the box. His body is made almost entirely of Technic inspired pieces, giving him an older-style feeling like the old bionicle. His gear function works very well and can be used in a variety of ways. He has a collectible golden skull spider mask which is great for collectors. Cons: His legs have to be in a certain stance to keep him standing up, limiting the ways you can display him. His head is blocked by other pieces and has limited articulation. The gripping action sometimes is hard to use on the mask. The instructions are wrong on one of the parts where the gears are facing a certain direction, and although it still works, it makes the spider look different then advertised, which might be a big problem for some people. Overall, the Skull Spider is a great set that really shows how far Bionicle has come. If you feel that the 2015 Bionicles don't have as much technic as they did, then look no further than this set. It's basically 80% Technic! Thanks for reading! Bye!

Well to paraphrase Princess Leia: "Aren't you a little short for a main villain?" Seriously, the best warriors on the island had to team up to fight this thing? Couldn't a Protector just element blast it with their minigun? Measuring about 3 inches tall, it towers under all of the other Bionicle figures in this wave. And yet it's the main villain of the wave? It just seems to me that a main villain should be big and imposing, and this is... supposed to be. Maybe. But I just don't see it. It's not a threat to one Toa. It's barely a threat to a Protector. I know that it's probably just a "pawn" villain as ToaLarich said, but nonetheless this "pawn" villain was released as THE stand-alone boss villain for Bionicle's initial release, was hyped up as a worthy adversary, and yet- it's quite short compared to the Toa. Sure, length and width wise it's the largest, but as I pictured in this review the Toa can crush this thing with ease under a heroic metal boot. The grip and crush feature is cool, but there's two problems with it. One: it doesn't really work with these figures. The legs are to small to go around even a Protector, so it doesn't really grip or crush anything larger than a piece or two. Two: it's obvious that the set was built around this feature, rather than the feature being integrated into the set. The crush feature is clever, don't get me wrong, but I think Bionicle fans would have preferred a large spider that has two legs that crush instead of a small spider that uses all six legs to crush. Printed piece is cool, grip function is cool, but my big complaint is that leg design, and with a spider set it's pretty much all legs. These legs make the spider way too short. I even tried flipping the legs to make this thing as tall as I could and it was still way shorter than the Protectors, which are 5", almost twice as tall. Not only are the legs short, they are barely poseable. Only the "foot" piece moves, the legs don't go forward-backward or even up and down (not independently, anyway). So this set's poseability is low, in stark contrast to the rest of the wave. If you're going to buy this set, buy leg pieces from the Toa to make this set taller because this thing is way too short on its own. Pros: Cool printed piece (this set only) Golden skull spider? Yes please! (this set only) Clever grip function I like the spikes and the teeth on this set Cons: WAY TOO SHORT!!!! Clearly built around the function Function isn't effective due to lack of leg length Poseability largely hindered by lack of moveable legs We've got a golden skull spider... where are it's legs?? Wrap-Up: Honestly if Lego had just included six of the Toa leg pieces to extend the legs this set, this would have been a 5/5 set and I would have talked about how much I loved their scary villian. It would have been poseable. The function would have worked MUCH better. The legs might have actually moved. I really can't figure out why they didn't think to put that in the set, it's not like them and I'm sure it won't happen with future sets. I'm also quite suprised by their decision to not give the Golden Skull Spider legs. All of the other Skull Spiders have legs AND infection powers, why not this one? This set is just not great, which is really abnormal for Lego. If you're a collector like me, get this set so that you have this wave's main villain. And I'm not saying this set can't be fun to play with, especially if you're 8 or 9. But honestly if you want a worthy enemy of the Toa/Protectors, just buy a bunch of regular Skull Spiders. If you're not a collector, and you're not 8 or 9, I don't recommend this set as is. If you buy this set you'll have to buy pieces to extend the legs or it just looks bad next to the supposedly defenseless Protectors.

Lord of Skull Spider

By Saphira3231

from Taunton

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Lord of Skull Spiders (70790):

This was a pretty good set to build, the design required a bit more attention to the detail of the mechanism required to move all of the legs at once. As a result of the design, i would say it is slightly more complex than the other BIONICLE sets on this wave of characters so some younger builders may struggle a little Overall i think this character is well designed, although maybe lacking in size to an extent, i can see that more limbs for height may have led to issues with keeping the character stood up properly. One-on-one combat with a horde of skull spiders attacking would certainly be a struggle for the Masters The grab action of the legs is really well added and is just right for trapping an enemy Master, with a quick squeeze of the abdomen trigger the legs close in and hold well making for a good playability the gold skull spider in this set doesn't come with any legs which seems a little odd, and also hasn't been given any way of attaching to the Lord Spider so is left out a bit, it does still look grwat, and fits in with all the other available gold masks that an be gained elsewhere in this wave of characters

Is L.O.S.S. a Loss of money?

By Chima4Life999

from Clinton, Utah

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Lord of Skull Spiders (70790):

Now before i get started i must say something: I love L.O.S.S.! now now, put down the pitchforks, there are some things i do not like, so just read on Pros: Printed eyes and fangs Has 9 points of articulation- 6 in legs, 2 in fangs, 1 in function "Crushing" function Spider look Gold mask Amout of pieces are phenomonal for price Color scheme- a little over used but still loved :) Very g1 bionicle rahi esque Enjoyable build Cons: Spiders have 8 legs! Cannot realy use printed piece in MOC's Yellow gears. Arrgh! Please lego, Use colors pertaining to the set, please. Kind of hollow when looking at it thru the side and when function is in use Red and blue pins Poseability is limited Where is the mask suppost to go? Small compared to toa In the end i still love this set. It has flaws, But i was really struggling to find cons. But seriously lego, you could of used black gears. Please take that into future concideration for colors in general. Make all the pins black, and you would be loved even more. But now im just rambling. Good set, Good price, Good function. See ya next time!

Awesome Spider

By melmac

from California

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Lord of Skull Spiders (70790):

Personally, I don't care if it is "Lord of the Spiders" or whatever. This set is great on it's own. What I really liked about this spider is that it has gears that when you push a lever on it's back, the legs move up and down. And the transluscent orange pieces with the black are really sharp looking.

Interesting/Neat Model but lacks playability

By ToaLarich

from San Antonio

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Lord of Skull Spiders (70790):

Ok so first and foremost I do want to say that I liked the Lord of Skull Spiders overall, he's a really cool villain for the Bionicle to face (and I'm under the impression he's just a pawn for a much bigger foe 'cough' Makuta 'cough) but I find a few improvements could have been made to the overall figure. I love the color-scheme! The leg grip action is pretty neat too. The issues I had with it was primarily a lack of movement in the legs, it makes the figure stiff and you really can't put him in very many interesting or intimidating poses, it also limits how you can play with it from a child's perspective. I really would have liked to have seen limbs more like the Visorak from the original Bionicle set or something similar. The other thing I was somewhat disappointed by was the size, in the animations and commercial it seems SO much larger but the actual model looks like a single Toa like Tahu or Onua could just step on it. I wouldn't have minded paying 30$ for a larger set. I really like that this is a new creature though and is not just some slap together humanoid figure, it actually reminds me a lot of the original Rahi models from the 1st Bionicle sets which is why overall I do enjoy it and it's a neat addition to the next generation of Bionicle collectibles.

Lord of Skull Spiders

By Neptune412

from Nixa

Comments about LEGO Bionicle Lord of Skull Spiders (70790):

This was the first build-able bad guy that I got and he is really cool. although the Lord of Skull Spiders is short he does look kinda dangerous. I was kind of disappointed that the grip and crush function is with all the legs, but it is still good for if the Lord of Skull Spiders drops from the sky and grabs an enemy. now for the pros and cons Pros: the grip and crush function the golden mask of skull spiders a lot larger than all the other skull spiders Cons: NOTHING!!!!!
