Star Wars: The Force Awakens â€" LEGO Millennium Falcon 75105 review and comparison with LEGO Millennium Falcon 7965 I just built the new LEGO Millennium Falcon from The force Awakens Star Wars movie. It shares some design features from the previous LEGO Millennium Falcon 7965, but there are several updates, some of which are very nice! First, the mini figures: - Han Solo with grey hair. Great print on torso, both front and back and front of his legs. Head has two expressions (wry grin and slight panicked look â€" both are trademark Solo looks and well done). Han has his proper blaster with scope. - Chewbacca has an updated coloring which continues through his legs. Most interesting is his two-part crossbow which will now actually fire round single LEGO. - Finn has printing both front and back on his torso. His legs are solid black. His face has two expressions, serious and what I would call mad. He comes with what I would call a standard issue rebel blaster. - Rey has her desert clothes printing on front and back as well as her legs. She too has two facial expressions, serious and what I’d still call mad. Rey’s gun is identical to Solo’s but is silver in color. - BB-8 doesn’t have much to share, it is two parts: a head and body. It appears BB-8 is also available in Poe’s X-Wing (75102). All other mini figures are unique to this set. - Tasu Leech has printing front and back on his torso and the front of his legs. He also has two expressions for his face. His weapon looks like a flintlock from the 1800s. I’m sure in the movie it’ll be a kick-butt throwback laser of some kind (as depicted on the box). - The last figure is a Kanjiklub Gang Member (apparent associate of Tasu Leech). He has printing on the front and back of his torso and the front of his legs, but only one facial expression. However, that one facial expression has a very cool looking eye patch and is very unique. His weapon reminds me of an 1800’s flintlock rifle. Same or near same as Millennium Falcon 7965: - It is the same size as the LEGO Millennium Falcon 7965. - Cockpit pieces â€" Chewbacca is too tall to fit inside the cockpit. - Landing gear is the same. - Roof panels which fold open for play-ability (note: accent pieces are different). - Dorsal and belly turrets are slightly different but basically the same as both rotate and bend up and down. - The ability to place two characters “manningâ€ the turrets is similar; however, lacking the “control leversâ€ which the 7965 set has. - The six round “ventâ€ discs on the top stern are the same and still use stickers. See criticisms from LEGO 7965. - Smugglers hold. - Entry hatch. - Blue exterior engine. - The sides creating the round appearance. New for the Millennium Falcon 75105: - New sensor dish to match movie, but sadly it uses a sticker. Also, sadly, it is not attached to a rotating piece but is fixed pointing forward with a hinge so it can pivot from side to side (about 70 degrees). - With exception of a 1x2 flat computer piece, all other computer pieces are stickers. - The interior has much more detail, including the Dejarik (holochess) board, and replacing the brown chairs are LEGO with stickers giving much more detail to the area. There are also a lot more things all over the inside of the Falcon this time around. - Addition of two spring shooters (one in each side of the bow) is an excellent addition. Much better than those flick-fire missiles in 7965. LEGO gives you one spare bolt, which I clipped inside the interior above the entry way. - Related to the spring shooters, the holes on the top of the bow are no longer stickers! Although the back two have black pieces under them, the forward two are real holes and are the means to fire the spring shooters. Very well done! - Chewbacca’s bowcaster is now a two-piece weapon and has become a mini-shooter weapon. - And although I dislike lots of stickers, the stickers add a great deal of detail to both the exterior and interior (18 stickers). And, if they are expertly placed, will add a great deal of value to your set. On a positive note, LEGO numbered the sticker sheet so you know exactly which sticker the instruction is calling for. Thus far, I really like the set. There is a lot of play-ability and the set itself looks great. Comments: I wish Chewbacca could fit inside the cockpit. I will say this, replacing the cockpit is a pain. There are only four connecting points, but getting all four to connect takes a bit of patience. Not to mention, placing two figures in the cockpit makes it more challenging but can be done (minus Chewy). Since the cockpit is the same as 7965 the Chewy issue is not a new complaint. Also not a new criticism is the stickers for the disks on the top stern of the Falcon. It would be nice to have a retractable landing gear similar to the Shuttle Tydirium, but this is the same as 7965 and doesn’t really affect play-ability. Although I’m not a big fan of stickers, they do add a level of detail not achievable with things like chairs. The Dejarik area is definitely a plus for this set and way ahead of previous Falcon sets. In fact, I would put it more in alignment with the Ultimate Collector’s Edition Millennium Falcon. Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of the mini-shooters (since you will inevitably lose the small round LEGO); however, Chewbacca’s two-piece bowcaster is actually quite cool. I also think the two spring shooters in the bow of the Falcon is a very nice addition. Using the holes in the top bow of the ship is very clever way of adding authenticity and play-ability to this set. Probably my biggest disappointment for this set is the sensor array. I really wish it had been a printed piece. But more than that, unless the movie proves otherwise, I wish LEGO had given us a rotating piece like the dish has in every other Millennium Falcon set. However, if the movie proves the dish to be accurate, then well done. I mean, it is not like LEGO had this dish sitting around from other sets. It is unique to this LEGO set only! For comparison sake: LEGO 7965 released 2011 for $139.99 US with 1254 pieces. Six mini figures from Star Wars IV: A New Hope. LEGO 75105 released 2015 for $149.99 US with 1329 pieces. Seven mini figures from Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. One might argue if you have a Millennium Falcon, do you really need another one? However, I suspect these figures are going to be unique to this set. And you’re definitely not going to find a better Dejarik area in any other Millennium Falcon, not even the UCS edition, in my humble opinion. I hope this is feedback has been helpful for you.

This is an appealing set with more play features than other smaller Star Wars sets. I am a huge fan of Lego but I do feel this is a poorly executed model. Like several other Star Wars sets, the robustness of the completed model is questionable. I know it is the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy and perhaps it is the price you pay for authenticity, but surely those clever people at Lego can strengthen the models more at obvious weak points so parents don't have to fix them every 30 minutes. The interior is the big plus point as it offers a static platform for play. Minus points are: 1) The cockpit is too simplistic - where are all those malfunctioning controls? 2) The central chamber where the figures can in theory access the guns is just odd and has no play feature beyond sticking the figures on a flat piece and dropping them inside 3) The hidden smuggling compartment is not hidden - it requires a red handle to lift, rather than a hinge that opens when you press on one end 4) The central front folding roof panel comes off easily 5) The legs don't fold 6) Inexplicably there is no ramp. This is one of the most iconic features of the falcon. How are the figures supposed to get in and out? We have modified our model, using two extra hinges to turn the dodgy central roof panel into a folding ramp. See the pictures for how this works - unfortunately we had to use some blue. Ideally this would open underneath from the undercarriage. Overall, once the initial excitement of seeing the falcon has faded you realise that this is not as richly featured or well designed as other lego sets.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon (75105):

This was my first Star Wars build. I’m usually a technic fan but the T1 Camper Van over Christmas brought me back to childhood. The Millennium Falcon 75105 did that even more emphatically. As a kid growing up in the 80’s it was all about the classic space LEGO and some city sets. LEGO was for play. While I love the build of the bigger technic models, once you have some initial fun with the mechanics (if any), it’s just about appreciating it aesthetically. Maybe I’ve just seen one too many cog and lift arms or maybe it’s the exquisite detail of the creator models over the pushing odd 200 pins into holes. I mean, I’ve deconstructed the 8880 Supercar to make space for a non technic set… sacrilege! I was kind of at pains with the dilemma since the T1 (and Wall-E which my son built). The Millennium Falcon has settled it for me. My first “Swoosh of a LEGO spaceship since those dear old days and the fact that it was a re-creation from a movie I enjoyed, even better. Even better still, the detail. The wonderful attention to detail that shows how proud TLG are of their product. The minifigs are brilliant. The printing on the torso, the choice of expressions. I got this set as I’ve never owned a MF, let alone any Star Wars set. I have all the main Force Awakens sets in the attic and this was my first choice to build as it contains the main characters from the movie (Rey, Finn, Chewie, Hans and BB8). It’s a bonus to get the 2 space gangsters (Kanjiklub and Tasu Leech). I had such fun thinking up the different scenes to play out. I put it to bed with the gangsters sneaking around by the bed only for Chewie to be standing there waiting with his bow and Hans doubling around behind them. Finn and Rey both fit in the cockpit but they are still armed. BB8 is perched on the swivel seat at the computer across from the chessboard hiding. I love that some technic is used to both strengthen the foundation structure and add some functionality to it. The interior is spacious enough to put a lot more minifigs in and could actaully house quite a few. I actually hid one of my blue 1980s LEGO spacemen under the trap door as if he hopped aboard to stowaway in the brief scene with the Millenium Falcon in the last LEGO movie. (Did I mention I’m in my 30’s… just in case!). Its the first set I’ve built with the sping loaded cannons too and I love how both the ammo and clever mechanism for firing them is hidden. Kudos to the designer for this feature. I hear what folk are saying about the complaints. I’ve never owned a previous version so I cannot comment on previous sets. I did read and watch just about every review of this set before I bought it. The little things like the standing height or lack of, beneath the ship is easily fixable with a few bricks from your stash. The “pizza slices having gaps is a non issue for me. I really appreciate how LEGO managed to get the roundness of the ships bulk with so few pieces (most of the piece count goes to the interiors). I’ve no doubt they could do even better in a larger set and if a UCS version of this appears again I will buy it in a heartbeat. I also appreciate how the slices all open individually to reveal so much of the interior to play with. I think opening a large circle with just one hinged side would leave a huge hanging piece that would get in the way while playing. Apparently the secret trap door is hard to get to but isn’t that kind of the point! I also loved how I had 8 minifigs in various places in the ship and still had oodles of space and locations to put more (the hyperdrive, the removable gun platform, the very detailed chess area etc..). I also appreciate the numbered bags. Part of me would prefer the old school enjoyment of knowling the whole 1,329 pieces for an epic challenging building session (and its still an option if you dare..). However the simple instructions and the numbered bags really suited my limited time (building it when the kids were in bed and getting suit and lunch ready etc..). I built bags 1-7 night 1 and the next night finished it off. I also loved how you get a minifig per bag. It really broke up the building process and made me stop to appreciate the detail of the minifig on its own before I sorted that bags’ pieces to build. I’m learning more about building technics which is great for projects I have in mind for years down the road. I personally had no problem attaching the 4 points of the cockpit. It just needs a little patience and making sure you lift up the model and check that pieces are all connected crisply after each page. If X number of pieces are not firmly pressed together the extra fedw mms of space will make the alignment more difficult. The Stickers are a necessary evil with the look of sets these days. I see them on my son’s, nieces and nephews sets (We are a LEGO mad extended family). Even on the Friends sets with so many colours, tehre are still stickers. I personally don’t have the patient to use a tweezer to meticulously apply them so its mildly annoying if I don’t line them up. For cirlular ones with holes in this set I was afraid I’d rip them if I had to lift them up for a second go. I actually think the stickers on the interior really add to the set in a positive way and while I appreciate that TLG can print everything, I only wish the antennae was a printed piece.. Overall I’m delighted I picked up this set. I enjoyed building it even more than I thought I would. The minifigs are superb and you get your money’s worth as its good for display and play!

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon (75105):

This truly is an awesome build, love it! looks great on the bookshelf and has become the home for all my spare mini figures that don't fit in there own star wars ships, plenty of room in this one! I will admit as its my first big build, I struggled with the plastic cockpit took a few go's to get it to fit and after some reviewing I found that I had put a flat 4x2 piece in the wrong position by one row, after that it all slotted together. The inner of the ship is full of detail and lots of little spaces, some have said there's no ramp for the mini figures to get in/out, there is on the left side it just latch onto the above part but can be used as a ramp in/out but due to the height of the ships feet its a tight fit if playing flat to the ground. But for me its a display model. I got this over a year ago post Christmas it was hard to find and I struggled for 8 weeks to get one but glad I have one in my collection. Unsure what set to get next as I have a full set and have ran out of shelf space! might get an standard X-Wing next, as I have Poe's and that's just as great as the Falcon!
