Educational Insights Crazy Cereal is fast paced electronic game. Upon arrival, my son and daughter ages 7 and 4 were drawn to the cheerful illustrations covering the box. I have to applaud the box design. It mimics an actual cereal box quite well with nutritional information, a maze to do on the back, and so on. My children couldn't wait playing this game as it promised laughter and fun!

Before play, a parent, teacher, or guardian will need to locate 2 AAA batteries and install one each into the game spoons per the instructions given. This step only takes a few minutes. A normal sized Phillips head screwdriver sufficed in the installation process. The batteries are solely needed for the LED color changing lights which match individual pieces of cereal. Each of the spoons has an auto-shut off mode which saves batteries and the sheer wonder if everything was turned off after game play.

This two player game focuses on matching and color recognition skills. It's a fast paced and is usually is over in about five minutes. Whoever has the most pieces of cereal in their bowl at the end wins. There's a bit a variation to the game to keep things interesting. Skill is required in scooping up one piece of cereal and then two at a time into their own bowls with only using one hand. This game can help with sharpening motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It provides a challenge and also can be used as an aid to teach patience and good sportsmanship with others.

Aside from playing the game as instructed, the game pieces can be used as an aid in teaching or pretend play. The cereal pieces designs are a circle loop, star, and a waffle type square. The colors of each are red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The high quality pieces can be used to create patterns, practice motor skills without the speed of the game, and as math manipulatives.
My son and daughter seemed to find this game fun. Their only disappointment was that it was over somewhat quickly. To expand game play we decided they would play three rounds. I had to remind them the first few times about the only picking up the cereal using the spoon and not their other hand. I really like that this game provides challenge. At the end of each round, I had the kids count the pieces they collected in their bowls. They were enjoying themselves so much that I bet they didn't realize they were learning and developing important skills too!

As an EI Insider, my girls occasionally receive toys from Educational Insights for review, and this was one of them...

Crazy Cereal is a simple concept and a fun game, but perhaps a bit too simple in its gameplay. Made for two players ages 4+ (the "cereal" pieces are small, so this isn't for the really young), the game begins with all the cereal in one large bowl. As one player signals "go," each player turns on their lighted, LED spoon and begins taking cereal pieces one at a time from the large bowl, placing them into their bowl. If the LED's start flashing, it's "Crazy Mode" time, and that means you can take two pieces at a time, regardless of color. At the end, it's the player with the most pieces in their bowl that wins.

While the game is cute and well-made, there isn't a lot to it, and that might make for an issue of attention span for some players. One or two rounds, and it's onto the next thing, so parents will want to keep that in mind. Crazy Cereal is best enjoyed in small servings.

My 4 year old loved it. Have to be careful though because it has little pieces and they seem to get lost easily. The coolest thing about it is the light up spoons

Comments about Educational Insights Crazy Cereal Electronic Game:

This game was one I hadn't seen before and thought it would be perfect for my 4 year old. I was right -- she loves playing it! She loves how real the cereal pieces actually look, and she loves scooping them out of the big bowl and into the smaller bowl. The lights change color slower than I thought, but then I realized that it's a good speed for her age -- I was scooping too fast :) A good game for her to play with her 7 year old sister and her 12 year old brother even joins in every once in awhile. A great purchase!

I have a two and a half year old little boy with autism level 3 and a sensory processing disorder as well as nutrition and feeding issues. Because of his diagnosis this experience with this product is that he's having a hard time realizing how to match the colors but once he does he's getting it. One step at a time. The other great thing about this is that he has issues with using utensils and by making it a gameand the cereal not being a big mess if he spills it it is teaching him how to keep something on this spoon as well!!!
