I am a home based child care provider, so I have had many different carseats over the 20 years of caring for children.
I needed up to date seats to fit across the 51 inch wide, third row seat of my Chevy Suburban, 3 to be exact. I had a hard time finding seats narrow enough to put 3 across. I came across this one and the advertising was that it could fit in smaller cars and showed 3 across the back of a minivan. the other was a much more expensive Diono seat which was $300 each.
I measured the seats, in the store, before I bought them and they did indeed measure 17" but they flare out about another 1/2 inch below where the cupholders are attached and made it difficult for me to install the seats easily. I managed to get them all properly installed with some wiggling and some science ingenuity (Install the end seats first then the middle seat. You have to lift up the sides of the 2 ends seats and then push them all down at the same time. Make sure you have locked the seat belt in first and then push with your knee and pull on the seat belt to make it tight. you will need a locking clip for the seat belts and this is NOT included with the seats) It took me about 20 minutes to get them all in there and they are not coming out easily, which is fine for me as they stay attached most of the time anyway.
One other con was they do not include belt covers and the straps were rubbing on the necks of the kids so I had to purchase child seat belt covers for the neck area.
In the end it is a comfy seat, as the kids tell me and safe for the price which was reduced because I was able to get a 30% discount when I traded in my old seats, which was great!

We like these, after purchasing several others

Comments about Safety 1st SportFit 65 Convertible Car Seat - Caspian:

We have twins and a toddler. We bought three of these for our SUV so we could fit three across. We went to BabiesRUs to test fit them first. They fit great using Latch on all three (two rear facing, one forward facing). The only bummer is we can't use any of the cupholders. This is our daughter's third convertible seat. The first was too heavy and too high and very expensive. The second was supposed to save space and was expensive but ended up creating too many problems and was a huge pain to install. My husband had to do it. So we purchased these after testing them and loving how light they are and how easy to install. Yes, you have to rethread the harness, but since you don't do that too often it's not a big deal. The level lines were super easy to get between. Each seat is slightly different but all are within the level. The button (as another reviewer hated it) is exactly the SAME as one of our expensive seats and works just fine. Push in, then pull the straps. If the straps are twisted under the seat, you may have issues. Check before installing. The straps on this seat so far twist on the front side less than our expensive seats. I do wish the straps were slightly farther apart on the neck. We had to put on protective soft covers so they wouldn't dig into the kids necks but now they work fine. Our daughter used to get carsick every time in one of her previous expensive carseats. It happens way less with this one, we think because her view is less blocked and she's sitting at a bit more comfortable of an angle. We did not need pool noodles or anything else underneath. Overall, we're very happy with this purchase, especially since we got three for what one of the only other alternatives for three across would have cost for 1. We've tried several other expensive carseats and these exceeded our expectations. You just need a little understanding about how carseats work in general.

I think the price is great and works well with my husband's smaller car. It's a little harder to adjust straps and such than the Graco one we have in my car. We found it difficult to tighten the straps.

My little girl is finally big enough to get out of the baby carrier. We love this car seat. It's very easy to get in the car and the seat itself is so cushy. I wouldn't mind having a seat like this! She loves going on car rides in this seat.

1st I want to say I had a hard time installing this seat in my SUV. 2nd the recline, there is NONE! Thankfully my toddler doesn't need one. 3rd, the straps don't tighten equally and they are a pain to loosen to get her out. The right strap is always looser than the left, the left is always crazy tight. The button to loosen the straps is a challenge to get to and when I do get to it I have to pull the straps from behind and feed them through the seat to loosen.

        Rear facing is terribly achored

Comments about Safety 1st SportFit 65 Convertible Car Seat - Caspian:

The rear facing anchor system is absolutely junk. It will not tighten correctly. I'm a 275 lb guy who works construction and pulling on the loop as hard as I can, it won't tighten enough to get to the 1" play they recommend at belt line. it still moves around. Of the 3 sets of (2 are G___co) these are the worst in rear facing. God forbid we would get rear ended, the child seat would tip up and the boys heads would smack right into the seat back! Can't wait till we can switch to forward facing, I think it will be just fine then. Luckily this is in a backup car for whomever is babysitting and not used much. 11 jetta BTW.
