This set is full of great Hoth related things from The Empire Strikes Back. It includes almost all the things you need to have a Hoth collection. It doesn't have all the minifigs that were very important such as Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca, but they are common Minifigs that you can easily get. I had all those anyways so I'm glad it came with generic soldiers that I didn't have many of. This set Goes very well with the Hoth Echo Base set, the 2014 snowspeeder, and the 2014 AT-AT. There is a lot of negative feedback on this set, but I think that this is good enough If you need more Hoth sets. In all, I think this set is great and could be called a UCS because it is an "Ultimate Collection" of Hoth.

I'll start with the positives, the base door is cool, the command center inside is nice. The minifigs are fun. It's great to have a power generator and the Ion Blast Cannon.

But the big issue with this set is how incomplete it is. I'm not talking about missing things like AT-ATs, more imperials, etc, I'm talking about incomplete builds. The power generator is the worst culprit. There should be 4 of those disk things, Lego only made three. There are multiple spots to put the gun towers, but the set only comes with two. Sure you can buy Hoth Attach and get another, but this set should have come with 4. The back of the Ion Cannon is not finished, so it looks pretty bad from the back. The Wampa cave is just a doorway, you can't even fit Luke and the Wampa in it together. No Princess Leia was an amazingly bad oversight. She is crucial to this set.

Now if you are like me and have a lot of the other Hoth themed sets, it was a very fun project to integrate them all together like I did. I purchased lots of extra snowtroopers to make it actually look like an Assault on Hoth.

I've added a few pics to show what you can do with the set if you have some other Hoth themed stuff and the patience to expand what Lego started with (which is the point of Lego sometimes).

fun set, but Not a UCS set

    By lucasyyd

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

since it came out, this hoth ucs set has been given lots of hate. starting with pros, it indeed is a fun set for kids! all the fragments are extremely fun to play with, lots of playable function in the set and especially the snow speeder, which is a perfect minifig scale/ highly detailed buildable vehicle. the ion canon can fire two separate lasers with contraction is also very cool! however, the main problem with this set is: it is definitely not a ucs set! lego's past ucs sets are known for the display quality and not the play functions! the hoth set has many issues for displaying! the turrents are extremely unscaled, the ion canon is way too small, and there are lots of exposed technic pieces behind the canon and the main gate! what is also noticeable is that the mini fig "exclusive" quality is not impressive! there are no base plates and is all the fragments are just not compatible with each other! so my conclusion is: this is a perfect gift for kids to play with but it is does not deserve a ucs title as a display set!!

Great set, this one will keep you busy! Added several sets, a hoth base I thru together early on from loose legos, AT-AT, X-wing, AT-ST. Filled the extra mounts with a large custom gun, weather vane. Enlarged Wampa cave like another post, enlarged the Snowspeeder 2 wide 4 long to scale it up a tad. This one makes you rearrange and throw legos at it! Still keeping me occupied!

Assault on Hoth should not be an UCS

    By danimede

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

Nice LEGO model but not at all an Ultimate Collector Series. Basically it's a collection of several nice scenes, with a lot of mini-figures and playable parts. Almost every area has something to launch or shoot. Very nice toy, but I would not include it in the Ultimate Collector Series, moreover when I put it with my others UCS models (X-wing, B-Wing, TIE Fighter, Slave I and so on) has been clear how this item does not belong to the UCS. In my opinion, the Assault on Hoth is a nice 9-14 age LEGO Star Wars set where it has been added the UCS logo and doubled the price. Thus, I'm afraid that also the new Death Star (75159) will follow the same trend and in that case I'm considering to end here my UCS collection.

    Disappointment on Hoth

    By radkid

    from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

As a long time Lego and Star Wars fan I was very excited when I heard a UCS Hoth set was being released. Especially in light of the fact that my favorite battle across the entire series is the battle on Hoth. After hearing all the negativity I decided that I needed to experience the set for myself. After finishing the build it was poignantly clear that this was not UCS quality set. For one, it struck me as disjointed and lacking in cohesiveness. I realize that the set had to be done in sections, but the sections do not fit well together. Comparing this to the Ewok Village, where there were different sections fitting together seamlessly, this subjectively felt unfinished. Next the build quality is unusually sub-par for a Lego product. For instance, the back of the ion cannon looks unfinished. I realize there are limitations inherent in building with Legos, but that is not an excuse for the different colored bricks the designer used. Next, the shield generator is not accurate. This one has three sections to it, there were four in the movie. Not to mention the fact that the lever which triggers the "exploding" play feature looks out of place and detracts from the overall aesthetics of this section. Instead of having a Wamba cave- why not build this out? Ah yes, this brings me to the Wamba cave. This was a completely different location in the movie and has absolutely to do with an "assault" of any kind. This section only serves to further disjoint the set and detract from any display potential it may have had. I realize this is a child's toy. However, when the UCS badge is slapped on the box, whether Lego likes it or not, it comes with certain expectations. Especially to collectors and adults. Nevertheless, perhaps this was intended to be more of a play set. Problem is that this product really does not work as a play set either. It's marketed as an "assault".... so perhaps there should be more than two assaulters? Again, rather than a Wamba, a few more Snowtroopers would have been nice. This is compounded by the fact that almost all of the Hoth related sets were discontinued (or near the end of their life cycle) prior to the release of this set.....including the AT-AT. Which kinda renders this pointless as any kind of play set. I really hope this isn't a trend for Lego and that at some point the planet Hoth is revisited and done justice.

Echo Base is a Fun Place

    By MNKM

    from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

I've had a lot of fun with this Echo Base set and building it with my daughters. We don't "display" our Legos, we play with them, so I'm not of the collector mindset. We've used this to make part of other Star Wars bases and scenarios, as well as non-Star Wars universe fun when my youngest brings out her Lego Friends bits and the Rebels go on a camping vacation. The turrets, it turns out, are handy for keeping the bears at bay, but not so good for fishing without some serious modification. I'm sure the Sand Crawler (yet to be built) will be stopping by for a visit at some point. Try not to forget to have fun with your toys, y'all.

    Very Disappointing

    By pape

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

I bought this from another online retailer, and all I have to say is what a disappointment.....Probably one of the worst LEGO sets I have purchased in a long time. Set is not a difficult build, but it has no cohesiveness. The shield generator is missing the fourth module, the Ion cannon is poorly constructed, and the Minifigure selection is a joke (WHERE IS LEIA?). Lastly, the set is not worth the asking price. Wait for a drop in price if you feel you must have it.
