This set is full of great Hoth related things from The Empire Strikes Back. It includes almost all the things you need to have a Hoth collection. It doesn't have all the minifigs that were very important such as Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca, but they are common Minifigs that you can easily get. I had all those anyways so I'm glad it came with generic soldiers that I didn't have many of. This set Goes very well with the Hoth Echo Base set, the 2014 snowspeeder, and the 2014 AT-AT. There is a lot of negative feedback on this set, but I think that this is good enough If you need more Hoth sets. In all, I think this set is great and could be called a UCS because it is an "Ultimate Collection" of Hoth.

I'll start with the positives, the base door is cool, the command center inside is nice. The minifigs are fun. It's great to have a power generator and the Ion Blast Cannon.

But the big issue with this set is how incomplete it is. I'm not talking about missing things like AT-ATs, more imperials, etc, I'm talking about incomplete builds. The power generator is the worst culprit. There should be 4 of those disk things, Lego only made three. There are multiple spots to put the gun towers, but the set only comes with two. Sure you can buy Hoth Attach and get another, but this set should have come with 4. The back of the Ion Cannon is not finished, so it looks pretty bad from the back. The Wampa cave is just a doorway, you can't even fit Luke and the Wampa in it together. No Princess Leia was an amazingly bad oversight. She is crucial to this set.

Now if you are like me and have a lot of the other Hoth themed sets, it was a very fun project to integrate them all together like I did. I purchased lots of extra snowtroopers to make it actually look like an Assault on Hoth.

I've added a few pics to show what you can do with the set if you have some other Hoth themed stuff and the patience to expand what Lego started with (which is the point of Lego sometimes).

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

There was many thing that haven't been seen for a While in a set like this. I have had a lot of different hoth sets and this was a great addition to my collection. I didn't like the Wampa cave I felt it wasn't needed.

Good Set...Maybe Not UCS

By BarberSam13

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

When I was considering buying this set I saw that it had received mixed views, and as a collector of UCS sets I had to really think long and hard as to whether I should buy it or not, especially with the price as I only spend this sort of money on sets which I'm sure I'm going to keep out on display, however I finally decided to buy it as I always loved the Hoth scenes in the movies! When I first got it I was surprised by the size of the box, it's pretty huge and there were so many numbered bags I can't even remember! (The instruction Manuel as with all the UCS sets is very nice) the build all together took me fair amount of time as there are so many different parts to this set. The build itself was pretty enjoyable and not the most challenging I've ever done, but still fun, I built this set by myself but I imagine if you were to buy it for your kids for Christmas/birthday etc. it's probably a good set to build together as there's lots of different parts to it. For me this set has some parts which I really like and some which I'm not so keen on, I think the main sliding door is pretty cool, I love the Snowspeeder (I'm a huge fan of these in general anyway), the main control area is also nicely done and you get lots of minifigs, some really cool ones, the K3-PO and R3-A2 are awesome, and the Wampa is also really cool to add to any Lego Star Wars collection. The things which I'm not too keen on is the fact that it does look a little incomplete and it's all abit jumbled together, there's a little watch tower which extends from the roof of the sliding door area which looks a little odd and I don't remember from that scene, and allthough I think the Wampa cave is quite a nice little build, I'm not to keen on how it's just kind of attached on the end of the set. As a big collector of UCS sets I don't think I would consider it a UCS set, but that doesn't mean it's bad, it's a huge set with lots of cool play features and some really cool minifigs, like I said i think it would make an awesome Christmas/birthday present and is better as a play set than a display set. If you already have other Hoth sets then I wouldn't recommend this as it has got parts which have been included in other sets before, but if you don't have any and are looking to recreate this awesome and classic scene then I think this would be a really good buy! I would rate this set 6/10 as I has good parts and not do great parts, but all together a good play set.

    Despite what the others say, this set is not so overpriced. It's true that it don't look as big as we expected but it still an awesome set with great minifigueres and play features. Much better than my old hoth echo base main door ( ;

A good play set but nothing special

    By JJLBrisbane

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

Its really just a combined set of a selection of previously released sets with a marked up price and a UCS label. They didn't feel the need to put the UCS label on the Ewok Village. Now for the money thats a much better set and I'd recommend that more.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

This set comes with great play value. I have a separate set for display as well. It is an improvement compared to the previous older sets on Hoth. Definitely has collectible value even for adults. Plays really well with my AT- AT walker.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

This set really is an excellent value, especially if you are looking for play value. There are several minifigs, including principle characters, the Wampa and a tauntaun. I understand that some people are put off by the fact that it is UCS, and so fragmented. We've combined this with 2 walkers, many more snowtroopers, and the mini snow speeders elevated on clear pedestals flying in Attack Pattern Delta. My kid loves it.

fun set, but Not a UCS set

      By lucasyyd

      from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Assault on Hoth (75098):

since it came out, this hoth ucs set has been given lots of hate. starting with pros, it indeed is a fun set for kids! all the fragments are extremely fun to play with, lots of playable function in the set and especially the snow speeder, which is a perfect minifig scale/ highly detailed buildable vehicle. the ion canon can fire two separate lasers with contraction is also very cool! however, the main problem with this set is: it is definitely not a ucs set! lego's past ucs sets are known for the display quality and not the play functions! the hoth set has many issues for displaying! the turrents are extremely unscaled, the ion canon is way too small, and there are lots of exposed technic pieces behind the canon and the main gate! what is also noticeable is that the mini fig "exclusive" quality is not impressive! there are no base plates and is all the fragments are just not compatible with each other! so my conclusion is: this is a perfect gift for kids to play with but it is does not deserve a ucs title as a display set!!
