I am a daddy and just bought this (from Step2 directly)for my 2 year old little girl for her birthday June 3rd and I really don't know where all the negative comments are coming from, except to think that there are ALWAYS those few who complain about everything. It took about 2 hours to fully put together and that was mostly doing the stickers and odd-and-ends. The doors came attached already and you just have to assemble the main parts, door knobs and stickers. When she unwrapped it (assembled), her face lit up! She started playing with everything right away. I DO suggest that you get a large food accessories package to go with this as the food things they include are not really quality items and do not include the normal items for sandwiches, the refridge, ect. The oven door DOES NOT fall like others have said. I agree with some others that injection molded products do not look as good or as detailed as roto products (they should not have switched manufacturing processes), but it is what it is. In all, I think this is a great little kitchen for little ones who love to pretend cook and I am looking forward to a lot of fun times with my daughter as she cooks for daddy! I added a picture to show size and look in accordance to my little one.

I purchased a lifestyle kitchen in 2004 and was extremely satisfied with the purchase. However, I just purchased the lifestyle dream kitchen and was surprised to see that the quality of the product was not equal to the one I purchased in 2004. Although it looks similar, the doors (oven, microwave and refrigerator) are nothing like the older model. When I inquired with Step2, I was told that they changed the way they manufacture the product from a roto molded appliance doors to injection molded doors.

At the time that I purchased the product from the Step2 website they were displaying the product with the higher quality roto molded doors and this is not what I received. Of course, a new photo was posted to the website as soon as I brought this to Step2's attention and I was told I could ship if it back (at my expense) for a refund. But, after taking the time to put it together that seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

I would not buy this again.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen:

I bought this for my 2 year old granddaughter. She loves to play with it. However, it was quite challenging to put together. Some of the decals were sized incorrectly. Holes had to be drilled. Existing holes didn't always line up. One of the cabinet doors had no bottom hole for the peg to fit into. I had to make that hole with a knife. The back splash is made of plastic coated cardboard and probably won't last very long. Those were the holes were the worst for lining up. After spending hours putting this together, I saw a wooden kitchen in a local toy store. I liked that much better than this one. If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased the wooden kitchen. It was simpler, cheaper, made better, and would probably last longer.

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen:

I purchased this kitchen last Christmas for my older son (had just turned 2 at the time) and am writing this review 9 months later. This kitchen is wonderful. My almost 3 year old and almost 1 year old LOVE it. They both play with it multiple times a day. Originally the baby played with it (at around 6 months) by pulling all of the food out of the multiple drawers and cabinets. He then learned it was also fun to put the play food back in the cabinets. He progressed to learning to put other household items in there. Now at 1, he mimics what his big brother does and loves to put his sippy cup in the fridge. My almost 3 year old has started to make me meals, learned to serve said meals on plates, and pretends to do the dishes. This lets them make up their own games and grow at their own pace, which I love watching. It is amazing to see their little minds work. Here is a little list of important features and pros/cons:

    Pros and cool features:
-Light above sink is perfect for a 2 year old who isn't into imaginative play yet... they still like lights!
-Microwave, oven and stove top make sounds - stove top has lights and sizzles (one of the burners only)
-Color scheme is adorable and looks nice in my house
-Phone attached is a favorite of both of my kids - my older son "call daddy tell him food time" haha
-Has a lot of storage -silverware drawer, 2 upper cabinets, large lower cabinet, 2 drawers
-Has a recycling bin- we recycle a lot so that's a cute feature- also happens to be where we store the pots/pans
-Refrigerator and oven are pretty big

    Cons:
-As others noted, the oven door doesn't stay shut well. It's not a big deal really. I suggest a piece of velcro or one of those pads that go on the bottom of dining chairs. Anything to help the side touch better so it stays in place. It was a 10 second job to fix it.
-Assembly is a beast, but it is with any of these toys. I don't think it was any more difficult than any others.
-I wish the sink made noise

We got the lifestyle dream kitchen for free from step2 to give a review. It was easy to assemble I do recommend using a drill instead of a screwdriver not all of the holes were aligned. They have not stopped playing with the kitchen and we got it two weeks ago! My son and daughter have a blast with the realistic features and it is so much bigger then the kitchen sets they originally had.

Cute little kitchen. Aesthetically pleasing. Compact, modern design. We didn't install the cardboard backsplash so it now has a little window. Recycle bin is a nice touch. Able to store even Melissa & Doug wooden food.

So happy with this kitchen we got for my 1 year old. Although she's a bit young to actually pretend she absolutely loves playing with everything in it. The quality is great! There is even a nightlight above the sink. Love it!

Comments about Step2 LifeStyle Dream Kitchen:

I picked this kitchen set bec. of aesthetics and bec. of the drawers/cabinets (to hide clutter). Overall, I think its a great kitchen set. A few minor things that I noticed but not deal breakers were: the oven door is very loose, it would just open randomly and won't stay shut, there's nothing preventing the drawers from being pulled out all the way by kids, the rack on top of the stove doesn't snugly fit the plates/bowls. Lastly, the console above the oven is poorly designed that we basically had to drill it in there. It also requires a lot of batteries, but hey, what kid toy doesn't? These are all very minor things and I would still recommend this set.

My 2 year old daughter LOVES this kitchen! She has spent hours and hours "cooking". Santa brought it to her at Christmas, right before her 2nd birthday. I feel like we could get some good use out of it for years and years. I have a friend that has a more expensive designer looking wooden kitchen for her kids and she said this one is so much better and more fun for kids. And I agree. It has an adorable little light above the sink, which is my favorite part. Lots of storage too. Only issue I've had is that the oven door falls open. But other than that it's great! I highly recommend!
