This telescope is a wonderful way to get your kids outside. First of all, the assembly is very simple. You only have to attach the telescope to the base. This screws right in. You won't need any tools. Once set up, I found the telescope to be much more powerful than I expected. We were able to get an excellent view of the moon and see the detail of the craters. The stars were much more visible as well, and I was able to point out a few of the constellations. What I really liked about this telescope is that the part you look through is more like binoculars. This is much easier for younger children who can have trouble trying to close one eye to look through a standard telescope. Overall, a great toy that works almost as well as the real one I have! Now we can look at the stars together.

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Junior My First Telescope:

My little explorer just loves new tools to help him learn more about his world! Since this is the age of discovery, I want to encourage learning about as much as I can while his brain is like a sponge soaking up the information AND while he still wants to! If a few bright colored tools help encourage him, I'm all for it!

The latest tool for learning Jax has enjoyed is another from the GeoSafari® Jr. collection called My First Telescope.

It comes basically fully assembled. You just have to attach the scope to the stand and you're ready to go! When in doubt, read the directions! Even if you have the assembly down, there's always suggestions on how to use them with your child to maximize learning.

The stand is easy to set up and take down as it collapses easily. There is an orange cap on the end for protection that even my toddler could put on and take off himself. In fact he did this for quite a while before he bothered looking through it, just because he could!

The purple view part is soft and cushioned, perfect for a toddler face but also has a little give so they can push their faces right up against it for a form fit.

Another cool feature is that it can swivel in any direction. I like that it really replicates a real telescope which is appropriate since their first telescope should prepare them for the real deal later in life!

Now the big question: is it an actual working telescope? Well there's definitely some magnification. In fact inside it is almost too much as everything appears blurry since it's designed to see far away. It has 10x magnification which is better suited outdoors. When you take it out to view the night sky it does make the moon look cool but there's not a whole lot more detail than the naked eye. It just looks bigger and closer. It is the perfect introduction to a telescope with similar working parts in a kid friendly form! Educational Insights hits it home with this telescope!

My boys thought this toy was pretty neat. Right away the colors caught their eyes. Then, they found out how easily they could see through the lenses. This is very well-made and extremely durable. With four boys in my house, things need to stand the test of time, and this toy certainly has!

This is such a great First Telescope I really like how well the tripod stands up and the center brace inside of it helps keep it leveled without collapsing. I had never seen a kid telescope have the easy to use Google eye piece before, and it just made it easy the kids to use.

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Junior My First Telescope:

I have to admit, I wasn't too sure about this telescope when it first arrived. I mean, it is for children and generally, those types of things aren't that great. As a homeschooling mom of an 8-year-old and a curious 2-year-old, I was anxious to check this out, though.

When this first arrived there is minimal installation work. You simply have to attach the telescope half to the tripod. This took me just a minute to do without any tools or help from the husband. Usually, he's in charge of putting things together, but this time, I was good to go! Once the telescope was attached to the tripod, it was time to give it a go.

While using it, we found it was easy and comfortable to look through and the telescope as a whole is light weight, making it easy to move around as needed. When testing it out, at first I wasn't too sure, and then I was able to see the stars. Now, let me clarify, this does not show the stars as clearly as a fancy, expensive telescope. However, you can see them and it's a great learning tool to help your child learn how to use a telescope. It's a starter telescope and not meant for those looking to take star gazing to the next level. With that said, for a starter telescope, I was impressed with the quality. I wasn't even expecting to be able to spot the stars like I did.

If I could change anything about this piece, it would be the tripod. I would love if the legs could extend so you didn't have to find a surface to place the telescope on. Aside from that, I have no real complaints because I'm still pretty darn impressed. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much for a starter telescope but was certainly surprised by the quality I received with it. At the end of the day, this is certainly I would recommend! Whether a parent, teachers, homeschooler, etc - it's a great learning tool!

This is already a hit with my 4 year old. I thought we would need to save this for a trip out of town, but I was wrong. Who would have thought so much fun could be had looking at the neighbor's chimney???
