Introduce creative kids to a rich LEGO brick galaxy of lovable droids, exciting missions and coding fun for kids with the LEGO Star Wars BOOST Droid Commander educational coding toy for kids. This interactive robot toy puts your child in command of 3 app-controlled Star Wars droids: R2-D2, a gonk droid and a mouse droid, each with their own personalities and skills. Using the free LEGO BOOST Star Wars app, your young commander builds the droids, inserts The bluetooth-controlled move hub into the one that will solve each mission, and brings it to life using the intuitive drag-and-drop coding environment (visit LEGO.Com/device check for a list of compatible devices). your kid then constructs tools, weapons, targets, obstacles and lots more as they progress through over 40 exciting missions - they'll love it! This great birthday or Christmas star Wars gift idea also helps kids develop their critical thinking, creative problem-solving and coding skills, introduces them to basic engineering and robotics, and, just as importantly, lets them play in a rich and expansive galaxy filled with unforgettable icons like Luke Skywalker, X-wings, the Death Star and many more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very cool I was a little hesitant with this because of the potential difficulty involved with the motors and the app (which we hadn’t had experience with on other LEGO builds), but I am so happy we got this for my son. He’s 7 and has a lot of LEGO experience and is a very fast builder, so I thought this would challenge him...and it did. The build time wasn’t too long. He worked on in for a couple hours and we figured out the whole app. In the end he really enjoyed it and loves playing with it. It’s almost like a remote control toy. Well done LEGO for taking it to the next level with the added technology. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Almost there The concept of this product is very cool. That being said, there’s a few things that just make this product not fantastic for me. I would love it if there was a physical building guide along with the app. The app is almost like a story; it can be somewhat confusing to navigate when you’re just trying to build the droids. The droids work best on tile or hardwood— they can work on carpet but not as well. I wish there was a third leg for R2D2; he doesn't stand up without power brick/motor in. With a third leg, he could at least stand up and be displayed when playing with the other droids. Those are just a few minor details of criticism. Overall, it’s a fun build and concept. I think most kids would love to play with these droids.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite there yet I was disappointed at first because you have to power up the hub with the app before you can build the droids. Also the app is frustrating with everything being colour coded without labels. The build instructions were really straightforward and I like the wat you can rotate the 3D image. The droids builds are a bit hit and miss though, R2-D2 is very detailed and well built but the mouse droid appears unfinished with the motor “hanging” out of the rear. The coding seems very extensive and gives a great deal of options and could be really powerful with the right amount of imagination, however, the droids themselves struggled to manoeuvre on my laminated timber floor. Overall, there is room for improvement but can see the fun value in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 10yr old loves this set! Once we got AAA batteries and the app installed, we were ready to go! I really liked the animation in the app and how it played out like an interactive story. The 3D instructions were awesome too! I, like other reviewers, would have liked a hard copy of the instructions and pieces included, but my son didn’t seem to mind. (This 5 brick rating is solely from the perspective of a 10 yr old). Unlike other sets, the fun doesn’t stop after building! A kid will have hours and hours of fun with coding and discovering what these droids can do! The app and coding program is geared towards kids. They are the target audience and they love it! Adults like step by step instructions for how the app works and what all the little buttons do before they start (smh). Kids just play and discover!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrated I've built legos for years. First off a hard copy of building instructions on droids would help. Second, being allowed ALL pieces to keep droids built would be amazing. I found myself building R2 and was missing pieces right off the bat, had pieces that didn't belong to any droids. Lego was great with replacement however, have found the entire build frustrating at best. I can't have all 3 built to display. Displaying was my hope now, unfortunately they sit in a box incomplete. I couldn't ever give them to my son (12) as he wants to play with all 3 not 1 at a time. Definitely regret purchase, but love the droids if only they could be complete.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice STEM with Star Wars theme Bought for my son 9yr old. He was able to use the app and build the droids. He was engaged for hours and had fun tweaking the program beyond the mission assigned. Worked great on his ipad and was great it was direct download to run. Would like a pdf of the steps to play/interact without having to do a mission, but still great purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Set, but missing some options I like the set and it was a fun build, but I am disappointed that I have to do missions in order to unlock the accessories in Bag #12, would prefer an option to just skip the mission if wanted. Also, I would like to have the option to purchase the Move Hub and additional pieces so that I can keep the individual droids in one piece without having to take them apart and but them back together.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great concept, poor execution First I want to say that as someone who actively encourages kids to get into STEM I was very excited by the whole Boost platform. I do understand Lego wanting to get into the tablet games but I think putting the building instructions inside an app the requires playing the story was a bad move. I was excited to see the new Boost platform and hopeful that it would be better than what has come before. Sadly the Move Hub seems to not be quiet ready for prime time. My biggest issue is with control and it is 2 fold: First the motors are so jumpy that the droids aren't consistent in their performance. It's like they jump from Zero to Full on instantly. Teh poor Gonk Droid can barely stay upright. Second, Maybe I'd like to just remote control the droids. Why don't I have that option?
