Toddlers will be fascinated and preschoolers will be inspired by this amazing color-matching and creative activity board from Melissa and Doug! Ten reversible picture cards are held in place on a wooden play board when children place the snap caps in the holes. On one side the picture card is in color for matching. The reverse side shows the picture in black and white, allowing the children to create their own patterns and designs! This activity is great for color recognition, sorting and beginn

Good idea, flawed execution
As other reviews mention, there is no built-in cover to slide on. This is an odd design flaw for a company that makes toys for toddlers. Also, as other reviews mention, there are not enough blue pegs for the seahorse. Why did you make a page that used more pegs than were included in the package? Because kids won't notice? I was hoping to use this as a task-completion activity for my students, but insufficient pegs make it pretty hard to complete the task. The third issue is probably specific to my set - I do not have any red pegs. It's a good idea but, with two design flaws that were clearly just an easy way to cut corners, I would recommend it to anyone.

Great for a creative tot
Beautiful product and great gift for a creative tot, there are endless possibilities for (quiet) fun if you have a kid who will sit long enough to use this. It reminds me of a primitive version of Light Brite or other pegboard game. I would have liked the board to be a bit more strong, it is a little flimsy, unlike other Melissa and Doug products. Also this does not come with a bag or compartment for the pegs so invest in a small bag or box or you will lose your mind looking for the pegs.

Not enough pegs!
My 2 year old and I loved this toy until we discovered that there aren't enough blue pegs to fill the blue holes in one of the pictures. My daughter was feeling very proud of her matching skills until she felt confused, wondering if she'd done something wrong. We spent some time searching for the missing pegs, assuming that a toy designed to teach children color sorting and matching skills would provide enough pegs to complete a picture. When we read the box and counted the number that was provided, we discovered that there simply aren't enough to complete the picture. Now, I'm all about creativity, but when a game has the word "match" in its title, I get the impression that it's about matching like colors.

OT recommended!
This is my FAVORITE toy to use with preschoolers in therapy because it works on so many skills through play. I secure the wooden board to an easel to promote upper extremity strength and improved grasp and hand strength especially when removing caps. Improves bilateral coordination, sequencing, attention, in hand manipulation...I could go on and on.

The Seahorse Picture
I love this toy and so does my son. But I have a huge issue with the seahorse picture. It has 18 blue spots on it, but only 16 blue pegs are provided with the toy! Since the concept of the toy is to "colour match" this makes no sense to me and it frustrates my child that he can't complete that picture properly.

Needs a box
As I said before, your games with small pieces need a box.

I would not buy this item again
I bought this for color matching for my preschool. I was so disappointed that the colors did not match. The snap blocks were blue and the color on the picture was purple. Not a good teaching tool if the blocks and cards don't match.

Love it - need more colors
Great for primary color recognition, hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and dexterity in the hands and fingers. Also allows for some creative play with the buttons - although I wouldn't purchases this for a creative/imaginative toy.I just wish there were more colors available. It's such a great toy and so effective at teaching primary colors, I'd love to give this to a kid who was struggling with that and use an advanced set with more sophisticated colors and patterns.
