My daughter was diagnosed with Intact Protein Allergy very early on and was put on Elecare, an Amino Acid based formula. She was on this formula from about 1 month to 4 months. Around 4 months of age she began to refuse to eat. Her intake was down to 17oz a day, this was not an easy 17oz either. GI Dr., said that around this time babies begin to develop taste buds and quite frankly these formulas taste terrible, very metallic tasting. He gave us Elecare Vanilla Jr to add to her Elecare infant to help mask the taste, no luck. We tried adding Splenda, no luck. We went to Neocate, another amino acid based formula, than began adding Neocate Vanilla Jr, Neocate with Splenda, still no luck. Finally he gave us Puramino, her intake went to 22oz, than 24oz, than 26oz. She is now steadily at 26-29oz a day at 5 months. I noticed the increase from 17oz to 26oz within a 1 week time period. This formula is not as metallic tasting and has almost a oily film, however, it still tastes horrible, but she drinks it! All of it! Maybe its the oily film that forms a coating in her lining, maybe its the non metallic taste, I have no idea. I'm just happy she enjoys it. I would cringe at feeding time, and now its become a joy and I'm happy to see her so contently eating.
If you experience what I have, Puramino is worth a try.
She is also on Gelmix formula thickner, which helped with Reflux.

Did this product change? Our son has had food allergy issues since birth, and this is the first formula that got rid of his tummy pains and his mucousy stools. However since we got our last batch of formula, with expiration date August 2017, our son has refused to eat any formula. As our second child, we know that kids go through different taste preferences, but this has been the first wholesale refusal we've seen. I couldn't find any other way to send feedback to see if the product has changed or not, but was hoping to get some insight through this method.

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen PurAmino Powder Formula - 14.1 Ounce:

First off a little background; My son was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing a whopping 1 pound 7 ounces. He spent 3 months in the NICU and when he finally did come home he got to stay a whole 3 days before being readmitted to the PICU due to what they said was reflux and aspirating. For months after he was placed on a NJ tube (Nasal feeding tube that went down to his duodenum) After multiple tests they gave the okay to start him on oral feeds. He had been on breastmilk and Neosure for months and it wasn't cutting it. Then he was switched to Enfamil Reguline due to severe constipation and it helped a little bit but he was still refluxing a lot and not gaining weight well. After that one his doctor decided to consider he may have an allergy thus the next formula which was a hypoallergenic what a waste for us. My son still couldn't keep food down talk about J tube being surgically inserted keep going around. At 6 months old he wasn't even 8 pounds. His pediatrician heard his issues at his well child visit heard of his strong family history of allergy and suggested PurAmino DHA & RHA. Right from the first bottle we noticed a difference; he wasn't puking up all his food!! My son was on numerous medications and such for severe chronic constipation; Miralax, Lactulose, Probiotics, Erythromycian (for motility) even with all of those he still needed enema's or suppositories. Since changing to the PurAmino DHA & RHA he has started going on his own! The day he started the PurAmino he weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces, just 3 days later he had a weight check and was 8 pounds 14 ounces! The PurAmino has been a blessing beyond belief! It is so good to see my son keeping food down and gaining weight he is also a LOT happier now! I want to thank Enfamil for producing this product. My biggest complaint is how difficult it is to get it isn't sold in stores and one around here can order it. Pretty hefty price but well worth it.

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen PurAmino Powder Formula - 14.1 Ounce:

I LOVE this formula, however it is only available at a pharmacy but none around me carry it. My insurance covers only so many cans a month and we have a hard time stretching it till the new shipment comes. And the formula isn't readily available for us when we need it and nownim having issues with my insurance and I have no clue how I'm going to feed my daughter once this last can is gone. Anything other than this formula makes her sick we've tried several others.

This is the only formula my daughter will tolerate. We've been through bloody stools, sleepless nights, horrible reflux, severe multiple food allergies, and failure to thrive. At 17 months this formula is the reason she is now growing and gaining weight. She threw up the other elemental formulas and had bloody stools and severe stomach issues with the hypoallergenic formulas. PurAmino is the best thing ever!

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen PurAmino Powder Formula - 14.1 Ounce:

My baby was experiencing extreme fussiness, projectile vomiting, frequent spitting up, and blood in stool. We were referred to a GI specialist, but the earliest we could get in was a month out. Determined to help my baby despite unable to see a specialist right away, I did tons of research online and found these were often symptoms of a milk protein allergy. We had tried Nuramigen, but it did not help us. In a last ditch effort, I splurged and purchased a can of PurAmino. After only a few days, I had a completely different baby. The blood slowly went away as she began to heal. I know this formula is expensive, but I can not tell you what it means to see your baby in pain and discomfort that goes away as a result of switching them onto this formula. She stayed on it up to a year, and after a failed attempt to switch to milk, we are back on. Now that she is recovering from our attempt to switch to milk, we will probably try the Nutramigen Toddler for the sake of expense, before coming back to the PurAmino Toddler only if absolutely necessary. If your baby is extremely sensitive to milk, I recommend this product.

We have at this point tried 4 formulas before this one and this almost instantly helped my son. We are on day 3 of using this formula and all of the symptoms my son had of a milk protein allergy are almost completely gone. I wish we had realized he wasn't handling the previous formula well before now but I am extremely hopeful that this formula will continue to help my son and we will actually be able to introduce solids without issues.

My granddaughter went through several formulas before we got this one. she would scream with a horrible stomach ache since using this she has been a happy baby she is now 5 months old and has been on it since she was about a month and a half. we are so glad our pediatrican reccomended it. only problem i have found is it is NOT available in store anywhere the drug rep left us a couple of cans here and there which we are most greatful for until we could start ordering since we have to order it we have to buy several and that gets extremely costly. i would love some coupons or samples. her spit up is very min and constipation is also. it is all around the only formula for her.

Comments about Mead Johnson Enfamil Nutramigen PurAmino Powder Formula - 14.1 Ounce:

My baby started on Puramino when she was 2 months old. She was put on it because Lab results came back showing inflammation in the gut and had mucous on the stool. Was told she has problems digesting all protein including the one found on breastmilk. With other formulas, she was extremely fussy all day long and had trouble sleeping. She would cry in pain, had diarrhea, rash in her face, etc. After approx. two months of being on Puramino, she no longer had pain. My insurance does not cover it. I was eager to change to another formula when she turned 1 yr. because of the cost; however now that she turned 1, I come to find out she is still having reactions with other formulas. I am sad that I can't switch to a least expensive one as due to the high cost I can't save for her college yet. I recommend it but it's too expensive.

Finally we found a formula that works. At six weeks old our son had constipation, acid reflux and gas pains. We tried several other brands which didn't work. In just one week after using this product our son has less gas, acid reflux is gone and so is the constipation. Although it is a little pricey our insurance covers some of the cost.
