Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Options but lacking overall So at first when i saw these plates i actually liked their very modular nature, able to be put together in any direction and form using square plates that are much more compatible with City sets and other buildings. reason i bought these were to act as a base for on my office desk to have my Speed Champion cars be on, however the Speed Champion sets are double the scale of the city vehicles thus i would need double of what i initially planned thus the prospect got a bit more expensive. I really wish it came with 6 or 8 plates instead of 4 there's just not enough In my opinion (even for Lego City) for the price paid

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the new road plates I had a handful of the old road baseplates, so I wasn't too heavily invested before this change. However, I have seen others complain about these, namely that the height is different and therefore it screws up their existing cities. Personally, I have not found it difficult to simply put these on a baseplate, and then raise everything else up by one plate or two so it all matches. I find these roads to be much more dynamic, and allow me to make better use of my limited space to display my modular city setup. I'm looking forward to building up more of them as I can afford to, and make my town as complete as possible. Moreover, I think these are probably more fun for kids.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They are like dominoes… falling apart When my son and I connect these plates together the plate I just put on falls off. They don’t stick well. My son plays on the carpet a lot and it’s pointless having the road plates at times. I started getting into modular buildings and the road isn’t even level with them. To get it to work you have to fudge around. Lego needs to get this together because they messed the road plates system up. Make it thinner and easier to connect

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I SO WANTED TO LIKE THESE!!! After weeks of anticipation, and looking forward to a new georgeous-looking, customizable road set, these have let me down in just about every way. They look great on the surface, but are not near as practical for the price, stinginess of extra pieces, and play capabilities. My biggest upset is how the speed bumps are so big, most of the lego cars in existance, and even those in the sets coming out with these road plates, will not drive smoothly over them and even keep the cars from moving at all. Either the speed bumps will get scuffed up or the cars will. It is a real imagination-breaker for lego fans of all ages. Also, these sets are not near as customizable as I had desired. The small gray pieces needed at the edges are way too limited, and force you to have to use the road signs and striped pieces, even if you don't want to. If you don't intend to have street lights, signs, and poles every few inches, you will be disappointed with the number of customizable pieces. For the price, these is another huge let down. The train tracks were more deserving of the money than these. And lastly, be warned that the street lights in this set do not match the street lights as years previous. The trees and signs and flowera are all same, but the color pieces for these lights will be smooth, instead of the classical pieces we have all been using before. It just looks weird since I am used to previous ones. The only good thing I can make note of with these tracks us how the street lights actually do glow in dark, although not bright enough. Nonetheless, it is cool feature that will impress kids when they turn out lights after building.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from May work for some but bring old road plates I wanted to try these for my city. I decided to use them only on a small section where I have homes (not the modulars). It is PK but not the best. I am also very annoyed by all the extra parts you get with these road pates, especially the sloped pieces that are useless. It also takes quite a few boxes to built any decent size road, therefore gets expensive fast!! BRING BACK THE OLD ROAD PLATES.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Are these even Lego? These things are baffling. I bought a few without looking very closely at them, but they are really only meant to be used with the three new City sets IMO. First the good: everything is printed on the bricks and there are a lot of unique and interesting pieces here. I actually have no problem with the value for money and I will use some of this stuff. Just not the actual road plates. The problem I have with them is that I have a big modular city, and most of the parking is on the edge of the street. I had assumed that these consisted of several 8x16 plates so you could make multiple lanes but they are actually these big 16x16 plates that you can’t split in half. What I had thought I would be able to do is build two lanes of traffic and then have a third lane for parking or have a center lane for left turns. Perhaps I’m the fool for not looking more closely at the box, but since when does Lego sell you something this rigidly defined? There is almost no room to customize these or use these for any purpose except those three recent City sets. I am an adult so I will probably try to just buy some long plates to make parking lanes but don’t buy these for kids and don’t buy these for modular cities. The plates and bricks that LEGO has been making your entire life are cheaper, more fun and more adaptable than these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Budget yourself to buy more than 1 It is interesting to read the other reviewer‘s comments about these road plates, and how few of them are, etc. LEGO provides plenty of photos to display the use and limitations of the single set. A single set actually looks rather elegant when paired with LEGO police car sets, fire truck sets, or the various “18 wheelers” as a DISPLAY. BUT…. for play value it is obvious that you will want to budget yourself for more than one set. Think ahead and design out your needs, then save up to purchase the number of needed sets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product (if play on hard surface) I want to start with the fact that I love this set, however there are some glaring issues with it that cause me to give it a lower score than you might this with that opening. I would give it 3.5 if I could, but I rounded up. I could see this as amazing if you have a city on a table, but try to play with it on the carpet and you will spend more time mending it than playing with it. This can be remedied by adding some bricks to the bottom, but they are not really fully made for that. Would be nice if there was a groove to put them in. Though you could put them on a large plate (like you see in my pictures). What that all boils down to is the fact that though you could fix the issue, it would take a lot of additions to do it. The set is an amazing price and has some unique parts that I love like the glow in the dark bricks and the street signs. Also, if I ever do create a city on a hard table I will most likely get a bunch if these for the roads. But till then, I'm gonna figure out the most cost effective way to use this on carpet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected, and nice value I was skeptical of these plates because I knew they were a different height from the older model. My opinion changed when I saw how much was in the box, and how much my son enjoyed deigning his street. There's actually a nice mix of pieces in the box. I completely understand the criticism of these plates versus the other ones, but for young builders just starting out or new cities, these are good. The perspective of my 7-year-old son: The good thing about these road plates is if you have the tiles, you can link buildings to the side, plus it has street lights that have a glow-in-the-dark piece. They do not glow super bright, but you can see them when the lights are off and they’re a cool addition to my city. I also like these road plates because the speed bumps give my city character. These plates also come with things like street posts to put on the side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not exactly what I was hoping for I ordered this set because I wanted to see what the hype was about. I'm still glad that I did purchase it unfortunately it was not what I expected. I definitely do not recommend purchasing this for a five or six year old! You literally get just enough pieces to create what is on the cover of the box. Yes you can rearrange pieces but if you do that hopefully you have enough pieces for what you're trying to achieve. For the price I feel they should have added some extra pieces. Even my 17-year-old asked me "Where's the sidewalk?" I then had to explain to him the only way to create a sidewalk is to use a base plate underneath these roads and attach them and then build the sidewalk up which obviously would use many bricks that does not come with the set. Each road piece is 16x16 which equals the size of 1/4 of a regular base plate. These roads do not and should not replace regular base plates as again in order to have a sidewalk you need to build up off of a normal base plate. The pictures I will attach the base plates underneath are not included they're just for show. But I built the road as it looks exactly on the box and then added some vehicles to show how that would look. If you are going to buy the set be prepared to purchase more than one especially if you plan on building any sort of street or City. I hope you find this review helpful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great new road concept Love the new road plate system! They provide the flexibility to be able to build my city however I want without being limited to what a baseplate has designed on it. Only thing about this general road plate set I’d like to see improved is how many plates come with it as well as 2x4 connecting tiles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection Having been a long time LEGO fan I missed the old plates but these plates are way bette than I thought. Very versatile and customizable. Don’t need to take up space with baseplate sized roads. A bit expensive and could use more tiles for the edges and sidewalks. Could also use a way to build a rail crossing (I managed but it’s janky and took up a lot of my tiles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great road...while it lasts... I'm actually a fan of the new roads and appreciate the flexibility built into the design. Unfortunately, the limit of three sets means my daughter's town has a great stretch of new road...for half a block. Those of us that like these want more. Those that don't won't mind if I order a cartload. As it is....LEGO found a way to make everyone unhappy...I don't get it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, but... I LOVE the set, and the building was great, but the set is a bit flimsy, and is not good for transport. If you can, please find a way to strenghen the set, and include the support in the set, I would maybe repurchase the set. Thank you, designers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spendy but great product I never had road plates before and wanted them since kindergarten. I am new to mils plate setups but I love the idea and adding a white line to these plate to better fit Lego speed cars is a must. I love the product but bummed that I need to do more shopping to get all the pieces to better fit 8 stud cars. I love the glow in the dark

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A newer better road system! I like the new road system! It allows the city sets to intertwine, and it allows for people to make LEGO cities cheaper, and have more diverse road layouts. Although we lost nice 90 degree curves from the old system, the new system makes up for it. Overall I am very excited to see what LEGO does with this system in the future!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best roads ever In my city I took out apx 30’of the old green baseplates and replaced everything with the new ones and am replacing all baseplates with MILS. I’m about halfway done and couldn’t be any happier. Huge upgrade IMO. I always disliked the green curves an it’s not realistic in a downtown setting. Great job LEGO!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good project Good product but better would be to have an extra package to purchase with 2 by 4 and 1 by 4 as well as blue sidewalk pieces. You need some of 2 by 4 and 1 by 4 if you connect set to set and also bringing older sets into the picture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Road System! I want to start by saying that these plates are not a direct replacement for the retired road plates, with that said, these have mountains of potential and I think should be approached with an open/creative mind. If you have a stack of normal road plates you are happy using, these probably aren’t for you, but if you are just getting started or like customizing the roadway, these are a great pick. I don’t have massive real estate for a huge city layout but I have room for an avenue. So with these I’ll be able to reduce the width of my side streets and include an extra modular. It also allows one to elevate the road should they want to create a scene underneath the city. The best thing about these is customization and configurability. The ability to choose where a walkway is, and a speed bump or even a manhole cover offers tons of possibilities! My biggest criticism of this system is that curves are not currently available, but that’s not a deal breaker for my city. A very minor nitpick I have is that I wish these included a couple extra 2x4 dark grey tiles to connect with other road sets. As it stands, you can push the two sloped ends of a road together and create a dip, but a smooth and locked transition would be nice as an option for expansion. Those two things aside, I can’t wait to get more of these.
