Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fragile, Cute, and Missing Pieces So for starters, he is nice to look at, and the build is challenging yet fun. You definitely need to pay attention to what you're doing. However, he is a bit fragile, even after I was finished (kinda) I picked up R2 and set him down gently and all of the sudden a brick comes out from inside him and onto the floor. Like...seriously?? Then there's the missing pieces. Not only am I missing a physical piece, which I will have to put on later, but I was missing the sticker, which, come on, it can't be that hard to make sure the set has the display sticker can it? Good to look at, but not great for play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really only started building with Lego at the start of the pandemic and I would say this is the first set I have purchased that actually took me some time and caused me some nervousness after looking at the booklet that came with it. I will say that once I actually started building the product though I found it to be very enjoyable and full of really great details. I especially enjoyed the building of his head with the periscope and little hiding spot for the lightsaber. Overall really happy with my purchase and interested in tackling some other projects like this one in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I never built a Lego set before but always wanted the R2D2 Lego set. When I opened the box, I asked myself “what did I get into?” There were 13 numbered bags, so I decided to build 2 bags each day. I ran into two issues. When putting the legs onto the torso, some bricks fell out of the inside, so I had to reverse engineer everything to fix it. The other was when I was putting the head together, it kept falling apart. Aside from these two issues, everything was great. Should I have started with a 3,000 brick build? Probably not. However, I really enjoyed it and look forward to my next build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great R2-D2 Lego Build Life long Star wars fan, except the Soul Crushing episodes 7-9, but this is a different story. This R2-D2 is the Largest Lego set I have ever built. Leisurely built over 5 nights with me & my Lady for about 18 hours total. It was a very fun build and R2 has some great features. He is quite sturdy and stands on 2 legs just fine. The 3rd leg mechanics are very interesting and I like it a lot. On some smooth surfaces R2 can slip back upright instead of leaning on its 3rd leg when extended. You lift R2 slightly and then lean him back and the 3rd leg will extend down on its own. Then to retract Leg, lift him up slightly and tilt body upright and push the third leg up into body to lock back into place. The periscope that comes out of his head in the back left corner is pulled up by hand and then turn it to lock it in the up position. Has 360 degree movement. Then turn it to lower it back in place. The front right corner piece is removable to pull out the mini Lightsaber that is loose in the little cubby in his head. Wish the gold grill on lightsaber was better attached as it is a 2 stud grill attached on 1 stud. The two push switches on his back pop open the front vertical doors and push the arms out 1/3 of the way up and you have to move the arms the rest of the way by hand. Both are extendable by about 2"connected by a smooth flag pole type piece that stops when fully extended. Both Horizontal blue hatches on the front open staggered to each other. Would have been nice to add flying Jets that pop out of the side of each side of legs. One sticker total for info Plaque and printed piece of Lucas 50th anniversary brick on the Plaque is nice. Plaque has the R2-D2 mini figure. Watch for correct size angled bricks as it is easy to use the wrong one sometimes from my build with him. Also the beginning build of head is delicate and is best built on table or carefully held until it is more sturdy, which it is once 1/2 way or more done with building the head. Very Enjoyable build and to display. It was fair priced as far as Lego goes. I would recommend to any older Lego Star wars fans and looking forward to other Lego UCS Star Wars Sets to Build in the future. Photo upload is broken. I tried many times and variations of photos to meet specifications and still error has occurred.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from R2D2 review The sides were a pain to fix on put on to the main body. Had to take off the legs and fix both sides. Not because of build error but because of design

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I have mixed feelings about this build. I'm glad I own such an iconic piece. That said, I was disappointed in the build. 1) The level of special actions was subpar. When compared to what BB-8 can do, this R2-D2 is severely lacking. 2) It's not sturdy. Lego products are typically constructed in a way that they feel solid. This one does not. So if your 5 yo is expecting it to be a play item, then this not the Droid you're looking for. If you just want to set it on a shelf, it is. Take it FWIW

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Masterful Build: LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 Review As an avid LEGO enthusiast and Star Wars fan, delving into the intricate world of the LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 set #75308 was an absolute delight. This build is not for the faint of heart; it demands patience, attention to detail, and a love for the process. From the moment I cracked open the box, I knew I was in for a challenge. The build itself is pretty advanced, with specific pieces meticulously designed for the internal components. Each step felt like a journey, with the satisfaction of seeing R2-D2 come to life brick by brick. I must stress the importance of taking your time with this build. One small mistake could result in a frustrating callback, potentially undoing hours of work. It took me around 12 hours of total build time to complete, but every minute was thoroughly enjoyable. Comparisons to the 2024 R2-D2 set are inevitable, but in my opinion, this 2021 rendition stands far superior. While the 2024 set may appeal to those seeking a smaller model or a less daunting challenge, the #75308 set offers a grander, more fulfilling experience. One point of contention I noticed among other reviewers is the supposed detachment of the head. However, with a simple application of pressure and a gentle back-and-forth motion, the head securely clicks into place atop the supporting piece, allowing for rotation without sacrificing stability. In conclusion, the LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 set #75308 is a masterpiece of design and engineering. It's a rewarding build that will test your skills and leave you in awe of the final product. Whether you're a seasoned LEGO veteran or a newcomer to the hobby, this set is sure to impress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging but fun I’m fairly new to Legos and I have to say that this was the first one I’ve truly found challenging. It’s a good thing I don’t frustrate easily, as at one point I had to take it down to the base to figure out why the sides weren’t staying on well. So the instructions require extra attention to the details. I also found the black and blue hard to differentiate in the instructions. I have to agree that those who complained about sturdiness likely missed a small step as I did. But I really enjoyed the challenge. The finished droid is very cool and sturdy. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from “I don’t seem to remember ever owning a droid”. This was a fun build. I’ve had the set for awhile and just built it the other day. I think the only thing that hung me up, were the feet. It’s easy to get them backwards, when assembling the tubes. It would be cool if they came out with a 3-PO figure. Not to tall but just the right proportion to stand next to R2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome must be detailed person I must say after spending many hours on this Lego and making sure every step of the way its in its place it’s very frustrating when the third leg does not want to come down when the other two legs are extended back I’m not sure where to go from here on how to fix it. I have taken apart twice now and rebuilt it. Also the sticker of R2-D2 was not included with my kit. That’s one of the best things about this Lego set is the sticker end it was missing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set. I’m not even a big stat wars fan, but I can relate to R2. Great set. I’m writing a review because of how many neg reviews it has. This was one of my first sets to build, found it a little challenging but not overwhelming at all. Had a great time building it, the leg doesn’t work like its an electric function, sometimes its just a little stuck but nothing out of the ordinary. Its lego at the end and it looks awesome and a great display piece.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice set once finished I bought this set because I love Star Wars and R2-D2, the set itself is nice, I’d say the only thing that really ruined the set building and everything was the time it took to get it and after getting missing parts and having to use my own spare parts to finish building, I don’t know if anyone else had issues with missing parts but I had various parts missing, overall the set for a display is good and play wise it’s alright.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dream Droid R2 has been one of my favorite droid since the initial trilogy so he was a must buy for me. I stayed up super late to purchase him when he went live on the Lego store. We hit a snag building him due to his middle leg. There are quite a bit of moving parts that need to line up just right, which the diagrams do a great job of showing, but his middle leg that extends and contracts inward wasn't functioning properly about half way through the build. Besides having to take him apart to pretty much brick one and start over, the end result was worth it. The middle leg and head were the most complicated parts of the build in my opinion. I would recommend to those who want a challenge. He is happily sitting in our cabinet with our other builds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worst build experience ever This has to be the worst build experience ever! The whole interior o r2 is technic and if you get anything wrong you have to pull everything apart and try to figure out what you did wrong. And thr more you pull things apart the more pieces Starr falling apart making putting it back together a pain. I'm a huge fan of r2d2 but this build experience was so miserable I really wish I didn't get this model!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from R2D2 is rocking it! I love the set overall. However, the side panels are very hard to get attached to the interior structure, causing some instability. Also, while trying to make sure they are secure, a number of pieces continue to come loose. I've chosen to leave the side panels "loose," and am going to leave a couple fallen pieces off. I don't want to take R2D2 apart and start over.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LEGO R2-D2 I personally enjoyed the set but I didn’t like the fact that the techinic was complicated for doing the leg functions with the third leg and I also thought the set is to fragile I tapped the set and the leg broke I personally liked the set but it could be sturdier

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a huge fan of technique builds While building the inside wasn't exactly fun, R2D2 overall was super fun to build. He was cute, and a good size. I overall have some issues with his side paneling pulling away, but not a huge issue. And it could be my fault but I don't think it is, it's only held on in 3 areas.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Missing pieces I had gotten this set for Christmas as a gift from my dad, started working on it today only to get to bag 6 and find that I wasn’t just missing 1 or 2 white 2x4’s but all 14 of them. Not to mention that at this point by leaning the legs back the middle one should drop but it doesn’t do that either. I still believe it is an awesome set just wish Lego would make sure everything works as intended and that each bag has all of the pieces it’s supposed to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The joy is in the journey Outstanding, immersive and smooth final display model, no unsightly gaps. Requires your attention, many small parts. Recommend putting a "stickey note" on page / instruction number where you left off building if you get pulled away for whatever reason. The main difficulty I had with instructions was the dark blue was very hard to read as to defining parts or checking their overall placement in the schematic, no definition. Otherwise, well done Lego. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complex but enjoyable build [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been building lego Star Wars since 2016 and loved this set. I am a huge lego Star Wars fan and received this as a gift this past week. This was probably one of if not the most relaxing , most rewarding build I’ve done so far. I did not intend to buy this set for myself so I’m glad my person got it for me. Very detailed and very fun to build. Final product looks amazing. If you are thinking about buying it, do it. You will not be disappointed at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lot of fun to make This one was a lot of fun to make, compared to the BB unit. So far it hold up very well when you goof around with it. Hasn't lost any parts like some others have done. Love this piece and highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stay together If I had a chance to buy this again I probably wouldn't. If one piece falls off and you get it back on two or more pieces fall off next requiring you to rebuild the entire set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set for anyone who loves Star Wars We got this set for my son's birthday (10). It took him about 4-5 days to finish. The packaging was easy to organize, and he didn't need any help at all to finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommended with reservations Let's get the good out of the way first. As a completed model, this little R2 unit is terrific. It's a compelling size - bigger than you think from pictures, but not so huge as to be overwhelming. I think it just looks great. But this is a surprisingly challenging build. I found a lot of the internal Technics work to be (as Technics often is) fiddly, tedious, and occasionally uncooperative. His little front leg/wheel still doesn't smoothly work the way it's supposed to. And he's a bit...jiggly. The whole model is fairly robust overall, but anytime I pick it up to move it, it wobbles and sways more than I'd love. I don't regret getting this set, and I'm glad to have it as a display, but unlike some other sets where I would happily repeat the building process, I'm glad to never have to construct R2 again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can’t Go Wrong… Another great build experience from Lego. The set starts with a technic build and then becomes more standard. Never became monotonous and the finished product looks fantastic. PS - There seems to be a problem with the photo upload system. Keep receiving an error message.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great challenging build R2D2 was my first ever Lego set. Yes, really! One of my friends has built Lego Star Wars sets for a while, and when they noticed that an R2 set was on the way, they let me know immediately. R2 is my favorite Star Wars character of all time, and even though I had never built an actual Lego set before, I knew I needed to build my boy. As a beginner, I knew this would be a challenge - and it was! It took me one whole season of the Great British Baking Show, but I was able to finish R2 with little issue. This build was sturdy and even though this was my first time working with technic, it wasn't overly complicated. R2 looks fantastic when displayed, and I find his functioning pieces to be very cool. I do wish there could have been some function to raise the scope on the top of his head instead of having to do it manually (like the little rods you can push on his back in order to help extend some of his little robotic arms) but that's more of a dream than an actual criticism. This was a wonderful first experience with Lego for me, and inspired me to start a Lego collection with how fun and challenging it was. Also - really good price for R2 compared to some of the other Lego Star Wars sets. If you're on the fence about buying this set and you love R2? I say go for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Incredible Display Set Building and posing R2 was frustrating at several points. Using red and green technic to help emphasize which side was which was clever but not apparent to me until after several mistakes. Not all of the picture guides were clear, particularly on page 40 step 55: I think perhaps if there was a QR code to a video showing how the mechanisms should be moving and connected on a particularly crucial step would greatly help because these moments caused me to have to tear down parts of the build several times. The things on the sides of R2's legs that connect to the yellow tubing make contact with R2's body when I try to deploy the 3rd leg which is most likely a problem with the way I build it which again wasn't the best experience I've ever had with a set. Not to mention that the lego technic frame that R2 is built around does not inspire a ton of confidence. I'm disappoint that flimsy feeling of the model means I won't really be showing him off as I would like (being able to hand him to younger cousins for example) and specifically that it makes me nervous adjusting him at all. However I still give this a glowing review because it's a great display model when it's set up. This lego set looks fantastic sitting up on a shelf, and maybe if you take extra care when building this set you'll have a better experience than I.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun little driod I got BD-1 a while back and I was excited to grab R2 for the collection. The build was pretty fun and he has a lot of little cool features. I wish the dome was a little smoother, but all that is pretty minor. He's a cool droid and sits great on my shelf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Build Experience I missed the original R2 model, and was happy to see a return for the Lucas Films 50th Anniversary. The build was very enjoyable and found that attention to detail is necessary during the early stages of the foundation for the unit. Once you get the substructure completed, the build breezes by. But the end result is an amazing display piece. I would recommend this to anyone that does not already have the original unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from R2-D2 Lego Kit After receiving for Easter, my 12-year-old daughter spent most of Easter and all of Easter Monday building R2-D2. She was determined to finish before school started back up again from Spring Break. She said she had challenges with figuring out the legs but thoroughly enjoyed building it. I would highly recommend the kit as it is a really nice set and includes a small placard to set in front of R2-D2.
