The train is very cute. My 3 year old son loves the Rudolph. I am not impressed with the on/off button. You have to push it twice to go forward. If you only push it once, the train goes backwards. The speed is fast and is difficult for my son to turn on/off without derailing the train. Although the sound is loud, I don't mind it.

I was looking for a train to fit the diameter of our 7ft Christmas tree. Most holiday themed trains were in the $100 plus range so I was surprised to find this one sitting near the door at Toys r Us for [$]. Overall, I am pleased.CONS- Batteries die quickly when used daily- When functioning train is loud (we turn on the music to drown it out)- One simple touch and a car (or all cars) get derailed, though it doesn't take long to put them back on the track it can become annoying. PROS- Great holiday decor- Extra tracks for large trees- Cute elf on one car that turns when functioning- Holiday music - Assembled in minutes - Enjoyable by the whole family, all ages

We have many Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer display sets, and I thought this would be a nice one that even my 2 boys could interact with a bit. I was wrong! I bought this online and just received it in the mail today. I was all ready with my batteries to set it up and have it ready around the Christmas tree for the boys to see when they got home from school. What I actually ended up doing was packaging it all back up and putting the brown shipping box right in my trunk to return to the store...before they even saw it! BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! The train and track are made of very cheap and flimsy plastic. The track didn't even lay flat on the hard wood floor...therefore, the train kept derailing. I see no choice other than to return it, because even though my boys are very careful with their own toys and our display/decorative items, I don't see this lasting long. Hopefully I'll find something a little better quality for us all to enjoy! I guess, if you're just buying this to leave set up under the Christmas tree and not run it, it's a nice looking set...but then what's the point?!

This is a great train for around the tree. My son loves it. This one does not play music though. We were very dissapointed in that. They need to put that feature back on it next year.

Wanted something fun and simple for the kids to play with for the holiday. Thought this was a good introduction to trains and track before indulging in the more elaborate train sets. Definitely has their attention and interest. Colorful, fun, and exciting. Wish this model came with music option, it only has train sounds and whistle. Volume adjustment would be good because it's loud. One major drawback is the power and directional switch. When you try to turn it on you have to give it a good tap and this sometimes derails the train because it takes off so fast. Plus, once you stop it after it's gone forward the next time you start it, it goes backward...the kids panic, trying to push the switch on a now moving train that then derails. The trains cars are light weight and any bump knocks them off. Frustrating for the little ones and mom, who constantly has to re- rail the train.

This works fine for what it is but is not real sturdy and there is no music with this train like the other reviewer said, but it makes the train noises, ie. bells, horn, track noise. My 4 year old LOVES it, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone his age, he is exceptionally careful with it and knows how to put it back on the track but it would probably be destroyed rather quickly by most little people his age.
He loves Rudolph so that's why we got this one, but you can barely see that it has anything to do with Rudolph.
Overall a good purchase, I would buy it again

Love this set, bought it for my grandson three years ago and, he enjoys it every year from Thanksgiving to Christmas. It plays music and its adorable. We have bought other Rudolph figures and added them under the tree to keep his mind off of the Christmas gifts.
