My 9 yr old daughter bought this diary with her allowance money. She's had it for almost a year and is still working fine. The voice recognition is a little sensitive. If there's a lot of background noise, it will not recognize the voice. The only problem we had, was that at one time my daughter couldn't make it open, no matter what we tried....i.e. all the complaints people have on this site about the product. All I did was go online on suggestions on how to fix the problem. All we had to do is reset the product to factory settings and it was like new. There's a small reset button that you need to pick with like a pencil. She's had a lot of fun keeping stuff out of reach from her 7 yr old sister and 3 yr old brother...who thinks it's fun to try and sneak into it.... without success! I am actually thinking of buying some for my nieces as Christmas gifts.

      I bought this for my daughter who really wanted it but it just doesn't work right. You have to keep resetting your password because it will tell you it doesn't recognize it and for that case anyone can reset it and open your "private" journal! We were very disappointed in it.

          I bought this for my teenage daughter for Christmas because her brothers kept stealing and reading her diaries so I thought it be cool to get her one that was suppose to be impossible for them to open. It's bogus though because it opens with everyone's voice. There's no secrecy and we've tried everything to get it to only recognize her voice but even then her brothers could open it just with their voices and even her dad got it open.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

                      I got the password journal about 2 years ago. It has never let me down once I found out how to use it. What works best for me is to try to remember which syllable I emphasized on my password. I'm saving up for the password journal 8!

                          I truly hate this toy. It doesn't work well at all. The voice recognition device is horrid. I have lost track of how many times we have had to reset the password while my 8 year old cries. I am throwing this plastic piece of junk in the garbage. Do not waste your money on it. I am getting her an old fashioned key lock journal instead. More frustrating than it is worth.

                          My 7 year old recieved this for her birthday after months of begging for it. It was really cute at first and I laughed watching her go hide so that no one would hear her set her password. The problem is that after one day, the journal did not recognize the password. She would say it exactly the same and it still wouldn't work. It's very frustrating to have to reset it all the time and have the same thing happen the very next day. My daughter has became very frustrated with it and it has completely taken the joy out of this toy. My soon to be 6 year old daughter once wanted one for her birthday but has changed her mind after seeing how it actually works (or doesn't work).
