An amazing set for anyone, beginner or collector

By buildbricks

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

What else can I say apart from what has already been said? This is an amazing set, and as an Electrical Engineer whose Lego bug has just been rekindled, this was the ideal stepping stone for my transition to an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego). It has superb details, amazing functions through an ingenious gear box, and absolutely HUGE play value. The sheer number of parts alone make this worth buying, let alone the sheer amount of customisations that can be applied to it. The set is quite big, bigger than what I was expecting. To give you an idea, you can see how big it is, next to the HULK. It even dwarfs the Star Wars UCS Tie Fighter (also shown in images). In terms of building, it took me longer than most as I would always start just before bedtime, which wasn't ideal as I nodded off a fair few times, which is not recommended as Technic pins and beams aren't the most comfortable pillows. I had to double back on my build at a few points as I wasn't paying attention, so it does need a bit of caution when building. It was just the right amount of challenge without it being too intricate or straightforward. To summarise, this is a fantastic set with limitless play value. It is highly recommended for anyone and will make a splendid addition to anyone's collection.

Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245

By builder1234567890

from Lego Technic fan

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

When I bought this set, I was nervous of the very high price. However, I must admit that this set definitely worth every single dollar that I paid. The Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 is absolutely the best Lego set that I've managed to put my hands on. This set is huge and educational: it has penumatics, power functions, a gearbox, a mind - blowing steering system (which is totally unaffected by the suspension system) and a great design, featuring the masterfully sculptured front grille. There are so many small details which make this set unique, such as the small Mercedes Benz logo sticker on the steering wheel, the round shield with the Mercedes Benz logo printed on it and the beacons used for controlling the steering system. The instructions are clear, although that building the crane was quite challenging. (because of the penumatic tubing). Moreover, the set has many useful pieces and is a good base for MOCs. It' s actually very fun to move the truck around and drop some pieces in the container using the crane. This set has some cons, but very minor ones. I think that this set is the best Lego set that was ever created and that the designer made a great job in creating the set and copying the real Mercedes Benz Arocs.

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

I've always loved building something functional and this product more than lives up to my expectations. I'd love to have the MK II Crane brought back (and feel free to upgrade it with the latest pneumatics).

Best technics model so far

By saahmad

from Karachi

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

I am an adult lego technic fan. i love building technic models much more than playing with them. the challenge is to motorize them and modify them. Arocs is the best construction model as the alternate model is equally challenging to build as the original model and not just a modification, with the exception of the drivers cabin. again the playability of the alternate model is more than the original ,just like the MK2 crane. it is challenging to build but easy to mechanize with the power functions so that it can move forwards/backwards and turn with a remote. the tubes etc of the pnuematics are a great improvement on the unimog where the ends of teh tubes became brittlle and tore after two builds. the only improvement for future that the designers can do is to modify the pnuematics so that the crane arms does not come down with a jerk but slowly drops !

Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 - Everything is Awesome!

By Champ20nreds

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

I got back into buying and building LEGO a couple of years ago when I bought a second hand 8258 Crane Truck from my son's friend. Since then I've focused on buying the larger Technic and Star Wars sets (yes - I do have the 10179 Falcon :-D ). The set is just about perfect. A challenging and rewarding build - take your time and just enjoy the ingenuity of the design. Once built, even I as a 50-year old can appreciate the play value :-) !! I get the feeling this set is aimed at AFOLs, but anyone who has an interest in all things engineering is gonna love it. Worth every penny!

Arocs 3245

By rleigh

from Dundee

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

This is the first new LEGO I have built in over 25 years, and marks my return to one of the greatest pleasures of my earlier years. And what a return! This is without a doubt the most impressive Technic model I have ever seen or built, and I would recommend it to anyone without any hesitation whatsoever. This model has it all: power functions, pneumatics, and it also looks the part too; this is a really nice vehicle which really looks close to, if not better in some respects than the real thing. Pros: - Power functions driving an impressive gear train to select four different functions: tipping the truck bed, extending the stabilisers, rotating the grab arm and driving the compressor - Impressive pneumatic functions: two pistons control the angle of the grab arm, one extends the arm and a final small one opens and closes the grab itself - Straight six cylinder engine driving (or driven by!) by the eight rear wheels, which have suspension and a separate differential for each axle - Incredibly detailed cab with Mercedes-Benz livery, which tilts to expose the engine just like on a real truck - Front steering via a hand-of-god knobs is well done, with independent suspension for each wheel - Locking back door on truck bed, which opens during tilting - Cab and platform on the side of the cab are sized appropriately for Technic figures from earlier models, so they can drive the truck and operate the controls (see the photos!) - Clutch gear on the grab arm turn/stabiliser extending functions prevents damage when these reach their limits and come to a hard stop - The pneumatic lines are routed through colour-coded T elements which makes some of the instructions easier to follow - The diagrams in the instruction booklet were easy to follow, and perhaps broken up into too many steps compared with the earlier instructions I was used to, but were easy to follow; I only made a few mistakes due to my own fault and these were thankfully easy to rectify without dismantling too much! All the controls for the functions operate well, with a few caveats I'll mention below. (Very minor) cons: - Due to the weight of the grab arm, the arm can drop abruptly when lowering the arm; this can be prevented by being very careful with the valve operation, so that the air doesn't escape very quickly. This isn't a design flaw in the model as such, it's a limitation of how the pneumatic valves operate. The weight can also mean it takes a good bit of time to raise the arm since it takes the compressor a while to build up enough pressure in the system. - The amount of pneumatic lines running through the centre of the turntable (8) makes the turning action ever so slightly stiff and this can lead to jerky turning motion due to the clutch slipping. This got better on my second build of the model due to dust making the lines stick to each other less--when brand new out of the box there was a good bit of friction between them. Fiddling with the precise amount of slack and routing of the lines helped a little bit, but didn't eliminate this entirely. - The compressor and tilting mechanism could have used a clutch gear; when I dismantled it to build the alternative model, the axle driving the compressor had noticeable wear I think due to the load put on it when the pressure is high and all the pistons are at their limits, and the linear actuator ground horribly at the limits of the bed tilt if not quick enough to stop the motor - The stickers aren't compatible with the alternative build; it uses a reversed arrangement of two of the pneumatic valves, and some of the valve control stickers are out of place on the alternate model due to where you need to place the pieces. The valve arrangement could have easily been made the same--it's just a matter of switching the routing of the lines, I think. - The instructions showing the routing of the pneumatic lines could have been clearer. I was not much in doubt of which line went to which nozzle of which valve, but the spatial arrangement of how the lines were routed around each other was not as clear as it perhaps could have been. Note that these are very minor criticisms, and I have absolutely no regrets about purchasing this model. It was an absolute blast to build, with very different parts to it to make it not get too repetitive -- the main chassis and engine, the gear train, the pneumatic arm, the cab, and the bed. Seeing it come together bit by bit was great! And I've spent hours playing with it after building it. The slow, majestic sweep of the truck bed tilting up and down, the rapid open and close of the grab, and the graceful raising of the grab arm are all just a wonder to behold. The amount of functionality crammed into the model is incredible, and the result is a technical wonder you'll marvel at for hours.

Well, that was a learning experience!

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

Ok I've built a few Lego sets in the Creator Expert series, the F40, the VW T1 and the Mini Cooper underway but I wanted a real challenge so I picked up the Arocs. It certainly delivers on the challenge aspect on the build, this being my first 2,500+ piece build I knew I was in for some fun. After a two day marathon I had me one huge truck to display! Yes it's not a small model by any stretch nor is it light but it looks mighty fine to say the least and the power functions do work quite well as well as the air powered functions of the crane arm. I've read online that this is actually the biggest Technic set ever released and I dove in head first quite blindly. It was actually fun to hook up the battery to test out portions of the power functions to verify operation and that "hey I can do this stuff!" Then again I am a mechanic by trade so this kind of work is right in my wheelhouse. The pluses, Relatively good instructions. Amazing amount of moving parts both by power and manual actuation. It makes the F40 nervous just sitting there! The small minuses, One particular page in the manual for the blue air lines is as clear as mud and could use some more clarity in this regard. Through the overall length it could use some torsional stiffeners as it is a bit twisty. All in all a great kit for one wanting a challenge, and as I sit here I'm actually considering buying a second one to do the alternate build and display them together.

Awesome Build

By Daddio

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

I had been looking for this kit since before Christmas. A few weeks back I checked a store that I had recently checked and to my surprise this kit was sitting on the shelf (must have been in their storage). This was quickly put into the shopping trolley. I built this over a period of 7 - 10 days as I did not want to finish it too quickly. Very challenging at times, especially when connecting hoses. This is now the 13th and best Technic kit I have. Looking forward to the 2016 kits.

Great set!

By Thelegoobsesser

Comments about LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043):

wonderful set! it was a little easy to build for me. the only hard part was measuring the hoses and making sure I could fit them in properly. the set itself is great but there ae a few meh things. for starters when lowering the crane arm just drops. I'm afraid that this may knock something loose one time. the suspension is good except for the fact that it could be a bit softer. its hard to make the wheels turn so it makes it feel like a axel is bending. I did take my time on building it so I didn't mess up and so i can learn the new designs Lego incorporated. although this set has a few flaws I would still recommend!
