Product Description

Replicate an icon of art deco design with the LEGO Architecture Rockefeller Plaza (21007). Developed and financed by the Rockefeller family in the 1930s, this 19-building complex is an example of Art Deco and is famous for the many works of art integrated into its design. This LEGO Architecture series interpretation of Rockefeller Center was designed by architectural artist Adam Reed Tucker.

Includes information booklet with details on design and detailed history of landmark (English language only).

Like most kids my age, I grew up playing with Legos. I love the Architecture series because it allows me to relive those great times I had when I was young. Architecture has always enamored me. When I first discovered last year that there was a Lego set of Falling Water available, I couldn't believe it. As a college student, it took a while to convince myself to part with the money needed to buy it, but I'm really happy that I bought it. I have the model sitting in my dorm room, and it looks beautiful. The architecture series excels because of its simplicity, and that's exactly what Falling Water, and now the Rockefeller Center, use to their benefit masterfully. After the fun experience I had with Falling Water, my girlfriend this year surprised me with the Rockefeller Center set for Christmas. We spent this afternoon building it, and had a great time. If a detailed model is what you're looking for, then I'll be honest and say these sets weren't design with you in mind. My favorite thing about these sets, especially this one in particular, is the attention it draws to the silhouette of the architecture, and how it interacts with its surrounding environment. In the case of Falling Water, I often find myself admiring how the building is integrated into the river that passes through it. Now with the Rockefeller Center, I get lost admiring the skyline of the Center. It's through the attention to the shapes of the buildings, rather than to the details which make each building unique, that Lego is able to accomplish this beautiful composition that subtly and effectively embodies the character of the real Rockefeller Center. Just like my Falling Water set, I plan on putting this model on my desk to stare at when I get tired of looking at my assignments. After having only had the model completed for 3 hours, I'm already impressed with how much I enjoy staring at the set, and admiring the simple beauties it has to offer. On a separate note, the set itself is easy to build. However, much like with the Falling Water set, you need to make sure that each piece you're placing is not only correct, but is being put where it belongs. Since the sets depend heavily on stacking thin pieces that are minimally different in dimensions, it's easy to make a mistake if you're careless. Undoing something can be rather tedious. Also, the model is surprisingly small, but its small size actually benefits it. It's almost like watching a movie on a small monitor, in that by compressing an image, it in turn makes that image look sharper. The small size of this set creates a positive clutter, that intensifies the interaction between the individual components that comprise the entire Center. I fear if the set were any bigger, it would accentuate the simplicity of the model beyond being simply refined, to just plain bland.

I love the Architecture Lego theme. The White House is still my favorite. This set could have been so much better! The real buildings have so many features and details that make them instantly recognizable, this set has none. I sent a picture of the completed set to a friend who lives in Manhattan. He had no idea what it was. The set does assemble quickly, and it was fun building a micro scale 2 x 3 city blocks... If you really want this set, I'm sure most everyone has these bricks of one color or another laying around.

      Rockefeller Center Rocks!

      By Toftsy

Comments about LEGO Architecture Rockefeller Plaza (21007):

This is my 13th Model of the Lego Architecture range. Have completed several American buildings of late and LOVE this one in terms of design. This wasn't the hardest of models to put together but the clever use of bricks gives this Model a superb 'layered' look. The use of different sized beige Lego tiles give the building a lovely shape and clever dimensions. A nice size model that goes nicely with my other buildings. The box and accompanying booklet are all the superb quality as you expect from Lego. The booklet contains detailed information on the building along with comprehensive build instructions. Worth every penny! Nice one Lego!

Good representation of a NYC landmark. Fits in well with the rest of the architecture series. Maybe not as big as some would like, but a nice addition to any collection.

Fun little set that can be built in moments. But $40 seems steep for such a small set.
