An updated classic Barbie house

I've been a Barbie collector since I was a teen in the 1980s. My favorite Barbie house was the classic - but HUGE - A-frame Dream House (mine was the pink 2nd edition). Continuing the updates that Mattel started during Barbie's 50th Annv, here we have a modern version of the A-frame, in almost the same pink/white color scheme; as soon as I saw the box, it brought back memories and I HAD to have it. The side towers have changed from square to a slimmer rectangular profile; it's more compact, but those rooms are almost too small. The house has also gained an elevator (wisely on the front of the house, which saves room space and lets it double as a balcony), rooftop deck, fold-down back patio, and built-in kitchen - all nice touches. My only real gripes would be the cheap "flower beds" (now just decals on flat purple plastic), the paper side walls, and the rather flimsy, poorly designed dining room "table". The classic house was also designed to be furnished; this one is pretty much only made for the furniture it comes with (as with most of Barbie's houses these days..so why make all that separate furniture, Mattel?). There's also one missing direction in the instructions; to change the picture to "night" on the upper floor, you have to press the small square button on the floor (above the front door), otherwise you may break the picture trying to force it down (I almost did, then discovered the button). Despite it's few flaws, this is still a nice update of a classic house.

Sadly even my 4yr olds agreed that this house has to go. It's too small, not big like the old yellow Barbie A-frame house, it keeps falling apart constantly...elevator, walls, kitchen, shower, everything! My kids are frustrated with it and just like the ceiling fan...probably because it hasn't broken on them! So tomorrow we are giving this hassle of a house to my friend's daughter with no problems from my kids and getting one of the wooden houses. At least the walls are not going to be these flimsy things you slide into place and if you bump them they slide back out! Crazy waste of money this Barbie house was!

I had this exact Barbie house when I was young, it was yellow then. It was my dream to get my daughter the same one. But I bought this for my god daughter, she loves. I highly recommend it. I helped her put it together & play with her. I love that all the things you need come with it except the doll. The only complaint I have about it is that it is in 3 sections. When I was you get it was one piece but the sides could open like a butterfly. Other then that great product & simple assembly.

Took 2 hours to assemble and affix all the stickers. Aside from assembly time this is a great house at a great price. A good amount of accessories. I like that it "folds" which saves precious space. Would have been great if the house was one unit instead of three separate ones, but overall satisified with this product.

This is definitely more cost effective than the regular Barbie Dream House. A good substitute if you don't want to pay as much!
My daughter loves to play with it.
I just wish it was a little more durable.
Some of the pieces are cheap and flimsy. And the wall panels pop out too easily.
Also the shower frequently comes apart.

But my daughter doesn't notice these things, and it doesn't usually hamper her play.
As a mom spending money on a product though, it is a little disappointing. Makes me glad I didn't invest in the bigger ticket item!

My daughter loves it! My girl plays with Ken and Barbie their not in a romantic relationship and he doesn't sleep over. And they don't live together yet anyway. Thank god she is only six. So Ken lives in his own House, and Barbie lives in the middle with her parents. Barbies many friends live in another section of this three piece set. What a great idea! She loves everything about her Dreamhouse.

I bought this for my 3 year old. She woke up and hasn't stopped playing with it. She LOVES it and I think it is very BIG. I wish the 3 towers connected in some way but she doesn't seem to mind. There is enough room for more than just her to play with it. It also took less than an hour to put together. SIMPLE! Love it!
