We bought this mic 3 days after the mic she received for Christmas failed after 30 min. She has to pretty much put her lips on the mic in order to hear her sing. It plays music and sound effects, but she really wanted to hear herself sing. It does have some static to it too.

I wanted to like it (based on the good reviews), but I found it rather staticy and, for lack of a better word, breathy. You could barely hear my daughter singing; the quality was just poor. Granted, none of the $20-25 microphones are very good "microphones"; most are just amplified echo-based, aka "toys".
This one does have lots of cute features for pretend play. I was just looking for something that might project her tiny voice more. I did find one by Disney (different review).

My 9 year old loves this microphone she got it for christmas once she opened it she sang along with victorious as if she wrote the songs I think its cute and like a mini karoke machine.

My 5 year old daughter loves the microphone. It only has the theme song to Victorious on it, plus an instrumental, but she sings her heart out over and over to it. Even my 4 year old son loves it. It was a great buy. I wish they had one more boyish so they didn't have to fight over it.
