Bought the Hoth Echo Base for $10 off, drawn in by the big sign advertising Lego Construction Sets -- Buy 1, get 1 50% off. The sign was posted DIRECTLY in front of the shelf space holding the STAR WARS sets. We did not see the small print until the price on the 2nd set did not ring up correctly. I went back to check...and then saw the small print.

I ordinarily do not make a scene; today, I made an exception, for this marked the 2nd time at TRU where we had picked up something from a display that advertised a sale...only to find out that the sale did not apply to everything in the display.

Yes, the small print was there, and I admitted that it is the buyer's responsibility to read carefully, but I was rather pointed in expressing my disapproval of a tactic that, in my opinion, was intending to sucker people in to making a purchase they might not otherwise make at the full price. I would not have purchased either STAR WARS Lego sets at the face value price; they are attractive but pricey.

The manager claimed that the corporation and Lego require their store to display the products and signage in such a way...and then he allowed us the 50% off on the second item.

Let the buyer beware.

My grandsons are crazy about Legos! We usually buy Legos for birthdays and Christmas. Sometimes two sets for each occasion, times 3 grandsons = 10 or 12 Lego sets per year. Unfortunately, Toys R Us in West York is the nearest location with a reasonable inventory, but the store certainly is not customer friendly, even on our last visit on a low volume Tues. afternoon. Lots of toys were misplaced on the shelves and my husband went to the checkout counter 4 times and waited to ask the price of items. The final time he said that customers should be handed a scanner when they walk in the door so they can know the prices. The clerk flippantly said "well, that sure would make my job easier". There was a huge ladder on wheels sitting in the Legos aisle and the customers had to keep shoving it around to get to the toys they wanted.

Legos are great! Now give us a place in the Hanover, West York area that is more customer friendly where we can spend our money.
