Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Solar Rover:

Expect a bit of a learning curve on this, but it really is a great idea! That determined mechanically-minded kid will LOVE making this car go. My son instantly found it to be cool, but he's a bit too young to really "get" the solar powering point of it. Love the colors and design - May regift to another relative who's old enough to appreciate the complexity of using the sun to make it go/turn/etc.

This solar power car is pretty dang cool! If your child is into science they will love this car. It takes a little work to figure it out, but that is half the fun of it. My daughter loved learning how you can use the sun to make things move.

OK, this thing is seriously cool!! When we received the item we took it outside right away to get some solar energy. Why we waited I talked with the boys about how solar works in terms they understand. Then after a while, we got playing! They seriously played forever with this thing. We live in Az so lots of sun for solar power!!

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Solar Rover:

Our 5 year old took an interest in steam power about a month ago and that led to water powered cars and then to solar power. The #GeoSafari Solar Rover was the perfect start for his solar adventure. He is still working on getting the hang of navigating the car but he's having a blast using his shadow to make it start and stop. The Rover takes off as soon as the sun hits the solar panel and the panels are adjustable so you can tilt them to catch the sun the best. As an added benefit my 5 year old has been having a blast learning about the sun, it's position in the sky, how it causes shadows and the orientation of the shadow. He fascinated with the idea the sun powers the car and I can see him growing into the toy and enjoying the challenge of learning to navigate it. The only downside is that we had almost a week of cloudy days when he received the Rover and you need sunshine for this toy to work. Overall it's a great educational toy that will allow children to explore.

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Solar Rover:

We recently purchased the GeoSafari Solar Rover by Educational Insights. My kids were VERY excited to give this solar powered car a try! We took it outside as soon as it was sunny, to give it a go! While the kids enjoyed the car at first, their excitement wore off quickly. I should mention that the intended age group is 8+, but I don't think that it is so complicated that children under 8 can't play with it. The car is obviously powered by the sun (yay for no batteries!) and you can "steer" the car by blocking the sun's rays on the panels. It didn't take long for my kiddos to grasp the concept. The car moves slowly, and handled our uneven deck terrain well, which was great, since the kids could keep up with it. However, the biggest downside is that when they lean over the car to "steer" it, their shadows blocked the solar panels and the car stopped moving all together. This is when the kids got frustrated and decided to go play with something else. Another downside is that the car is made of extremely lightweight plastic, and I could see it breaking VERY easily, especially where the "joints" of the solar panels are. All in all, it is a great toy to teach small kids about how the sun can be harnessed and used for power, but the design flaws and flimsy plastic material don't make the hefty price tag worth it, in our opinion.

Comments about Educational Insights GeoSafari Solar Rover:

My 7 year old loved this toy!! As a mom I appreciated that it was educational (and also that there were no remotes to lose or batteries to replace!). We got the hang of maneuvering the rover right away by covering/uncovering the solar panels. It could get frustrating at times (my son wanted it to go right and it would go left etc) but thats only because he hadnt quite mastered yet the precise angles needed to make it move a certain way. Great fun toy and a good way to get my kiddo active and outdoors!
