Ever since I saw The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 (or thereabouts) I have wanted to build the ISS Executor. Ever since LEGO started their Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series back in 1999, I have wished for the ISS Executor. Finally, after 12 years of waiting, it came out. I had forgotten to regularly check the product listings, so it had actually been out for a couple of months when I discovered it. I bought it without hesitation. The building process was genuinely fascinating and I found the brick-engineering often both clever and impressive. Until I realised the ship had no keel and the iconic main landing bay was, to put it politely, found lacking. Don't get me wrong, it looks gorgeous when viewed above the horizontal plane, but in the movies, in the first complete reveal of the ISS Executor, we see that mesmerising landing bay and hobbyists have, over the years re-created it in their LEGO fan models. Therefore I was shocked to see the frankly lame representation of it in this product. Because when you, an ISS Executor fan, have a model of the ship, you want to be able to raise it above your head and shout, "Look, they got the main landing bay and all!" This ship, it doesn't have a keel either and don't even get me started on the wrong colour of the engines. Also, since this is an Ultimate Collector Series product, I cannot understand the need to make it a "toy", with the minifigures and the nice-looking, but ill-concieved "hidden" bridge. Making all the figures fit inside so that they are standing when the roof is in place is *impossible*, and this ruins the product both as a model (the bridge is off-scale) and as a functional toy. LEGO Star Wars figures in general are great, but in an Ultimate Collector Series product *only* if they are in-scale with the model. All the time and money spent on engineering the bridge would have been better spent on the main landing bay and the keel. And why is there a Clone Trooper on the box cover? Wrong trilogy! All these things have been eating me for months and I hope that finally taking the time to write a review will give me some peace. This all said, I still love my LEGO ISS Executor. It's not exactly what I had hoped, but it's still bigger than that Japanese model and comes with a mini (ordinary) Star Destroyer that is just too cute to hate. Bottom line: LEGO, if you ever want me to buy another Ultimate Collector Series product, leave the off-scale portions out. I also have a wish: the ISS Eclipse. Now *that* ship is all about the keel and the only ship in the Star Wars Universe mightier than the ISS Executor.

I have just completed building this set and I must say that the Lego Corporation has done a fantastic job with regards to the Super Star Destroyer. Whether you are an avid collector or general consumer, you will greatly love and appreciate this set. This 50" behemoth brings Lego build bragging rights to a whole other level of awesome. I must say I am very impressed with the inclusion of a cockpit and minifigures to this 16+ scale model. It in no way takes away from the "exclusive-ness" or Ultimate Collection of the ship, nor does it detract from the fantastic scale modeling of the Star Destroyer. I must say this is Marketing genius. Being a Marketing major I can understand and appreciate these added things to a collector set. It allows a larger audience to be drawn to this set and therefore make more $$ while appealing to more people. Well done Lego Marketing Department. Also, to everyone complaining about no Bobba Fett: He is already in the Slave I, he doesn't HAVE to be in this set. The idea is for people to buy more products and that is why he isn't included, so you can buy the set that DOES have him. The fact that this set is so long (the longest set ever sold to the public) already makes it a reason to buy. The bragging rights among friends in what you have accomplished, even at my age, is a testament to how iconic Lego is. A great feature about the Super Star Destroyer is that it is a modular build. There is one giant spiral bound instruction booklet, but the bags and instructions are seperated 1-7. This makes organization and cooperative building extremely easy. I was able to build with my younger siblings with ease because we were able to divide up the instructions. I highly suggest this set for anyone who wants a challenge, bragging rights, and one great collection item. Fantastic work Lego, job well done. -Tripper

      Best display set

This is my favorite set that I have by far. It is MASSIVE and is detailed on every part. When people walk into my room they run strait over to it to see it. Of course a set like this is not going to be great for playability but the inside is really cool and it is fun to pick it up by the stand and fly it around the house blaring the imperial march. This is defiantly one of the best set for display. The only on better would probably be the USC death star 2.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221):

When I first saw how many bags of Legos was in the first of three boxes, I began to wonder what I may have gotten myself into, as it seemed to be an overwhelming amount of pieces. I found it easier and actually quicker if I just dumped the bags out and separated the parts. The build was actually quite easy, and I did not find anything troublesome. the completed model is very sturdy and can easily be picked up and moved around without fear of anything coming apart. I thought the bridge scene area for the mini figs just really does not fit on this model, kids cannot play with this, and I don't see anyone displaying this with the mini figs on it, it just ruins the scale. I did grow very annoyed with the unnecessarily large instruction book, it is so large and cumbersome you really need a separate table just to place it on, if you place it so only one page is showing, turning the page without ripping it or knocking a hundred legos off of your workspace, becomes very challenging, granted it does offer very good and easy to follow illustrations. My only other complaint is, ..where am I going to put this thing?

As many have said, there is not a lot of playability with this set, but lets be real... This is meant to be a model. A challenge? A Sunday afternoon build? A feat of Lego strength? Pick your choice or define your own. This set is worth it. This build was more lengthy than challenging.

(hint hint...this is not a toy) this set is meant for the guy or girl that likes to display their sets. Lego makes two types of sets Play sets and models. this is the former. the build was challenging at some parts and monotonous in others but thats just how it is do to the design of this amazing ship.I recommend getting this set if you like the UCS because once it retires it will be worth exponentially more.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221):

I loved this whole entire set! This set is the best set I've ever built and it is definitely the biggest one I've built. Some pros to this set are: 1. It is definitely a great building experience. 2. It looks great!!!! It would go great on display in your house. Not that many cons but here are mine: 1. You will have to find a lot of space to put this set because it is HUGE!!!!!!! 2. My set came with missing pieces, but it wasn't because I used the wrong piece. I built this with my dad and he figured out they gave us the wrong four pieces instead of the ones we needed to build one of the engines. This problem was in bag 5. But over all, THIS SET WILL BE ONE OF THE GREATEST LEGO SETS YOU WILL EVER BUILD!!!!!!!!

Not such a Super Star Destroyer

        By Queso2323

        from Oklahoma City

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221):

I was really excited when I saw this product was released. My 3 favorite sets are the Death Star 2 (from Episode 6), the original large Star Destroyer (#10030), and the big Millenium Falcon. So just the thought of being able to build a Super Star Destroyer had me so excited! Since the original Star Destroyer was already several feet long I was expecting the "Super" Star Destroyer to be massive. The only Super thing about this set was my disappointment. It just seems way too small, the dimensions don't seem that accurate, and it just looks kinda goofy and a bit pathetic siting on a shelf next to the original Star Destroyer. There aren't nearly as many "Greeblies" on this one, so it's lacking attention to detail. The mini-figures are great, but other than that it's a disappointment. I didn't grow up playing with Legos, I was a Star Wars kid. I remember the first time I saw a Star Wars Lego set, it was at the Mall of America in the Twin Cities and they were displaying the original Star Destroyer as well as the Death Star 2. I fell in love at that very moment and have purchased nearly every set since then. I even have an entire room dedicated to displaying these sets. But the "Super" Star Destroyer is no longer on display, and I think in this case the imaginative and creative genius Lego gurus got this one wrong.

        Supremely unimpressed

        By Beljeferon

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221):

First I must mention I did build the original Star Destroyer, so my experience is in direct comparison to that. And in one word it was disappointing. The kit has no detail and is painfully easy to contruct. There is nothing to oooo and ahhh about with this model. The original Star Destroyer has incredible detail and many facinating focal points and minute extras. The Super Star Destroyer is just a couple slabs of Legos stuck together. Granted it is trying o model a vessel that is many, many, many times larger than the original Star Destroyer, however Lego could have put a LOT more effort into this model and given it more detail and style. It may have needed to be larger and have even more pieces, but that would neither stop fans from buying it nor in any way have been a bad thing. In all honesty I would NOT recommend the purchase of this very expensive and very disappointing kit to anyone. If you can afford it, find the original Star Destroyer and you will be far more satisfied with the experience and the final product, regardless of what you end up having to pay for it.

The lady helped me order the product online and ship it to my house. She had to call corp in order to get the 15% off. This took time and effort to do this. She did a great job with all the paperwork and helping me with the 15% off and shipping.

          Going one step further

          By DefiantHammer

          from Indianapolis

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221):

I always wanted the original Imperial Star Destroyer but never had the money to get it. Now that I am bringing in more money I took the dive and made the purchase. It took me 6 1/2 hours to build and was probably one of the best 6 1/2 hour experiences. When you open the box you will find a thin box with the instructions inside as well as 3 boxes of pieces. Lego nicely labels them so you don't have to have over 3,000 pieces in a mountain together making the build significantly easier. I wasn't sure if I was going to find a place to put this as it is HUGE once you get it built. I managed to move stuff around to make space on my dresser with a few other Star Wars Lego ships set around it. I decided to also take my project one step further. I found a model train website and purchased a bunch of LED lights and rigged them to the engines. If anyone is up to the challenge I would highly recommend trying to add this, it is a bit of work but it makes the set pop. Playability is very low because of the weight. It does come with a few characters that can easily be played with.
