Everyone complaining that it doesn't latch should make sure that they are applying the latch in the proper direction. This lock has "teeth" on the back of the slide bar that match up to another set inside the lock that catch on one another to prevent the lock from sliding off. If you put the lock on backwards, the teeth will not catch and it will simply slide apart.

To reduce annoying instances of putting on the wrong way, I drew a small arrow on the lock to indicate the direction it should slide on.

The BRU slide locks do not work. Right out of the package I was unable to secure one of two locks - I gently tugged and the ridged edges didn't catch allowing it to pull right open. If you put it on a cabinet, your average 12 month old could pull the door knob with enough pressure to pull the lock open. I went to exchange and the customer service rep opened a second package to just switch out the one defective lock, but neither lock in the second package worked either! I returned them for a different brand. Some BRU products are great (electrical plug covers - cheap and work great!), but this one is very poorly made.

      I bought a pack of these and right out of the package one did not work at all. The other broke after 4 days. I returned them, thinking I would buy another pack and all would be fine - not the case. They both broke within 5 days! I don't see how they can produce this product without a thorough quality inspection. Worst product I've ever purchased!

          I bought these locks because I needed an extra one for the bathroom cabinet that has handles. I have to struggle everytime to get the lock apart to be able to open the cabinet. This might work better for a cabinet with knobs since you don't have to take the lock apart. I use the safety first locks with the release buttons on the sides in my kitchen and they work perfect. Wish I just bought another pack of them.

              If I could give this no stars, I would. We bought these this afternoon and put them on our cabinets in our kitchen. Literally pulled the door open to test it, and the "lock" slid right open and fell off. We tried several times and tried to adjust them, and they continued to slide open. They're going back to the store tomorrow. Seriously, don't waste your money on these.

                      We bought these locks when our daughter was born and they worked great. Now that we have a boy they still work great even though he gets into everything he hasn't gotten into any cupboard with these on it. They are easy for adults to use. We purchased the Safety 1st ones but we like these much better. Smoother sliding mechanism yet stays in place. Best one we've found!

                          Opened package, placed one on a cabinet as per instructions, and my 18mo old had it off immediately. Tested both in package and neither locked. Wish I had seen other reviews before buying. BRU should pay each person who purchases this $5 for wasting their time.

                                I used this on cabinet doors with knobs. Nothing is great about it because 16month old daughter watched one time and now can unlock this lock. This lock is too simple to open with one push of the button. In the meantime while finding better locks, I've placed the lock backwards on less used cabinet doors.

                                    Out of the box one of the locks just slid back and forth and would not lock at all. The other one in the box would only lock on one side. This product is not going to keep anyone, including a 15 month old, out of anything!
