Great Representation of FLW Design

By Nohands

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

This set was a lot of fun to build. The techniques used were inventive and the new types of pieces allowing SNOT design are a great addition. I would recommend getting a couple of these at least.

A hefty little eye candy

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

This is my third Architecture set. I own the Farnsworth House and the Trevi Fountain, of which the first one is still intact - I just love the sleek beauty of it. The Guggenheim has the same esthetic appeal: clean lines, a trillion 1x1 tiles, and beautiful colors. Yes, colors. I love the dark green plates with white tiles and sand details in the Farnsworth House, and I also love the two different greens of the Guggenheim combined with the teeny tiny splashes of yellow. It looks complete, balanced, satisfying. It also has a nice weight to it. And even though one will not see the insides of the model once it is ready, the inside design makes sense when you are building the model. You can see the love for the original architecture manifesting in the LEGO model and even its details that don't meet the eye. Also, the back wall, although it seems pretty uniform a structure, is in fact a really complex and intriguing construction. The overall built of the model is quite challenging, especially the back wall, to get all the tiles spot-on straight. But that's good, right? Not everything has to be easy, not in life nor in LEGO. And that's why I really like both the Architecture and the Creator series. :) Happy building!

Nice Update to Original

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

I don't own the original but I do own sets of this line both new and old and can see how the sets are evolving in detail. This finished product looks great and looks vastly superior to the original build. One thing I did that sticks out for my experience is once you are done take a minute to move the set around and look at it from all angles. I really like the level of detail they took with everything. I wish the set were maybe 10 dollars cheaper as it only took me 3 hours to build.

Big improvement

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

I just got this set as a gift and was happy to unwrap it as the box photo looked great, a big improvement over the earlier kit. For my whole adult life I have been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wrigt and, much later in life, Lego. So much of the subtlety of FLW's designs seem difficult to interpret in Lego, but this kit does a very good job. It's fairly small in size but the way it captures the essence of the design is well thought out. The colours work well and the curves are achieved in a surprising way. The transitions between the arcs I thought at first were clunky but after building, they are less so, although they maybe could have benefited from white bricks behind where there are tiny fitting gaps to make the curves appear more seamless (instead of black bricks). To me there were a few odd instances of brick "engineering" that didn't seem very solid but they don't affect the overall build. One thing I don't like is the assembly of smaller base plates into a larger one. No matter what it will not sit perfectly flat--why can't Lego make one-piece bases for kits this size so that the corners don't curve upward slightly? Overall a very nice adult kit. I hope Lego can successfully translate more of FLW's buildings into kits like this one. If they do, I will most certainly buy them.

Bravo, Lego!

By Aden

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

This is one of my favorite Architecture sets to date. It looks beautiful on display, and I can tell the designers put many hours into perfecting the shape. One of my favorite parts of this model is how they included printed tiles on the front instead of the usual name plate to make it more true to life. My only complaint is that the large spiral section is slanting outward too much, but I really don't see how else they could've done it. Also, there are many 1x1 tiles in this set which are pretty tricky to line up, but once you do get them lined up, the hard work definitely pays off. Overall, outstanding model!

Museum Worthy

By LegoMeister

from Duluth, MN, USA

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

I was excited when I saw that The Guggenheim Museum was being released with a new LEGO Architecture set. I am a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and to say I was disappointed in the previous version of the Guggenheim, would be an understatement. It always seemed oddly proportioned. I realize that the designers are limited by brick shapes, and budget constraints, especially with a round building, but that set was a let down. The new set is amazing. Every element of the design is light years beyond the previous one. The build is challenging, and it is fun to see the details as they emerge. Little quirks in the build, reveal themselves to be design elements that are almost hidden, unless you look closely. There are also the witty design elements that fit for the Guggenheim. The yellow taxi's and the white grills which represent cross walks, all fit into the New York theme. When done, the design is cohesive and proportional. Though it is impossible to achieve the spiral ramp element of FLLW's architecture, the gradual step out of the curved floors suggests it in a modern way. This set is definitely in my top five fave within the Architecture series. It gets pride of place on my LEGO shelf. I call this set Museum Worthy, because it is a set worthy of the Museum it represents.

Comments about LEGO Architecture Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (21035):

I received this a few days ago and finally had the chance to sit down and build it last night. All I can say is wow! This set put the first Guggenheim to shame. The level of details is just amazing. Definitely one of my favorite build and hope Lego designers continues to improve the Architecture Series. This one will definitely be on display for everyone to see. I can't wait for the next set they come up with or redesign.
