At first I bought one of the summer infant video monitors. It was very unreliable (it would keep turning off in the middle of the night for no reason) which made me very nervous and a couple of times I woke up to a screaming baby and wondered how long she was crying before I woke up. Then I returned the summer infant monitor and bought this motorola one. The positives are: -It has been extreemly reliable. It has never shut off once. -It has a good distance/range. -No interference/static due to wireless routers. -Good battery life. -I like the feature that you can talk to the baby from the receiver. -I really like the temperature featureThe only negatives (and that is just compared to the summer infant monitor that I tried first):-the picture is not as close up and not as clear so sometimes it is hard to actually watch to see if she is breating-it is hard to get the camera positioned right to be able to view the whole crib, we ended up hanging the camera on a screw on the wall which has worked the bestI attached a picture of the receiver and the screen in night vision mode. The picture was taken with my iphone and is a bit blurry--so the picture is actually of better quality then it looks. But wanted someone to get the idea of what it looks like.

It works pretty well in the daylight, but has zero night vision. We will be requesting a replacement. It doesn't pan remotely like the 3.5" version. The music built in is a special kind of bad...very electronic and harsh and the volume is not adjustable in the baby's room. Otherwise, I like the two-way communicator and the ability to turn off the video at night. Overall a disappointment for something that costs nearly $200.

Comments about Motorola Inc Motorola MBP33 2.8"" Digital Color Screen Video Baby Monitor & Wireless Camera:
I was given this monitor as a baby shower gift. Fortunately the purchaser also paid for a 2-year warranty. About a year after using the monitor, the quality of the video was so poor that I could not tell that my baby was in the crib. It was super grainy. I sent the entire set back & within 3-4 weeks, it was returned working well again. My son is now 2.5 years old & the sound has gone out & the video quality is very grainy again. I am outside of the 2-year warranty period. Since the video offers some type of image, I purchased a cheapo monitor that I use for the sound (I've got two monitors at my bedside!).When it works, it's wonderful. It's clear & easy to use. But, like all equipment that's used regularly, it goes out. Although my son is old enough to get out of his crib now & open doors, it's still a comfort to be able to see & hear him at night when he needs something. For that reason, I was disappointed in the monitor going bad.

My husband did a lot of research before we picked this model. I love that this has the 2 way communication so I can speak to baby and calm him as I'm coming up the stairs. The quality of the image is good and I like that there are lights to monitor sound level as well. I wish the battery would last a little longer between charges, but other than that I have no complaints.

this monitor is amazing! my husband and i sleep soundly knowing that our baby is too. it has saved us many times from a too hot or too cold room, let us know when baby is really awake, and not just sleep talking. we put it on the lowest sound when we are sleeping and when she wakes up at night we can still hear her, but it is never overwhelming. my toddler often walks around with the monitor pressing all the buttons and throwing it (even in the tub once) and it has lasted us two years. and when it breaks- i'll probably buy the same exact one again! i've recommended it to so many friends and family members and everyone has loves it!
Only lasted 1 year, Very disappointed

No problems with the product until we reached the 1 year mark, now it won't take a charge unless we hold the power cord just right. I'm waiting for a response from Motorola on a replacement but I am not hopeful after reading the other reviews of the exact same problem. Apparently Motorola recently changed their policy to not cover/warranty past one year on this product... That's a red flag that they are getting too many complaints. Such a bummer because otherwise we really loved this monitor. And with a price tag like this it should last well beyond 1 year.

DON'T PURCHASE MOTOROLA BABY MONITORS
By Jacob's Momma

This is our second Motorola baby monitor. We purchased this cheaper version at Thanksgiving out of desperation, and the USB port within the hand held unit just died last night (product only remained usable for SEVEN WEEKS). That means we are unable to charge the hand held unit. Which means this product is now unusable. Our first motorola baby monitor -- We received the $225 version (allows for panning, larger screen) with our baby registry and it only lasted TEN MONTHS due to the same problem. Don't waste your your money on this faulty product. Seriously. Use another brand. This is so upsetting!

I love this monitor. The battery life is great. The picture is clear and reception is great all around my home. (Which has thick walls), and it is durable. I have dropped the camera on my tile floor a few times and it has not effected the picture or quality of the camera.
Do your research - This is faulty

The MBP33 worked great for about a year and then the Parent unit which has a bayonet style charging port failed to properly charge the battery. Why Motorola didn't put a USB style charging port on this unit is beyond me, but I would suggest you do not unplug the charger very frequently or you will wear out the spring in the charging port and you will be unable to charge the battery internally. This is a basic design flaw. If you keep the parent unit in the same place all the time and never unplug it you might be OK for a longer period of time. When I called customer service and notified them the unit was 14 months old and not in the warranty period of 1 year, I was informed that Motorola would work we me and had replaced units up to 2 years old in the past. Well after I gave them the serial number and the receipt Motorola then informed me there was nothing they could do and that they had changed their policy so that they don't replace anything out of warranty. How convenient for me. I'm not going to spend another $180 to replace it which is what the people at Motorola would have you do. Just throw out the old unit and buy another. Very environmentally friendly of you Motorola!I have to remove the battery and charge it using an external charger every time it gets low, which is ridiculous. I have a Motorola Droid cell phone (USB charger) that works great, nothing against Motorola except that they really screwed up on this product. It doesn't last, so unless you only plan to monitor your baby for a year, buy another product.

About Me Budget Shopper
We have been so happy with this monitor. I love that I can hear my son, but I can also see him. The night vision camera is great. I like being able to change the brightness of the monitor or turn the video screen off all together. The wires on the camera and monitor are very long which is great because we have the sitting high above the crib. My husband and I have raved about this monitor so much my sister-in-law put it on her registry.
Worked great for 9 months

For the first 9 months this worked great, but the the camera started freezing and then the sound stopped working so we had to buy a new monitor. We did use non stop sooooo maybe we just wore it out??
Multiple issues and poor service
By Dallas mommy of two
We purchased this product less than 2 years ago and are already having to replace it. Within one year, the battery on the parent unit stopped taking a charge, so I replaced the battery out of pocket. A few months later the sound went out on the parent unit, making the monitor practically useless unless you want to stare at the video screen all day! I called Motorola who said that the product was out of [1 year] warranty and there was nothing they could do, and furthermore, the parent unit is not available individually -- just as a set with a camera, which we didn't need! A friend (who had received duplicate gifts) gave us a brand new set and we began using it. One day later the parent unit on that set stopped taking a charge from the AC adapter and Motorola would not do anything about it because it was a gift, and we had no idea where it was purchased from. Extremely disappointing given the cost of this product! I will never purchase Motorola again!
