I purchased this for my 6 year old niece for Christmas thinking it was a cheap alternative to an ipod. I spent approximately 2 hours trying to set the thing up and using the "touch screen" to navigate the player. Basically it is a worthless product. Not user friendly and definitely a frustrating touch screen!! I can't think of anything positive except it was a nice pink color :). Please don't waste your money on this product!! I wound up purchasing a cheaper mp3 player which worked much better than this!!

I purchased this as a gift for my 8 year old daughter. The very first thing I noticed about this player is that it feels cheap. Very lightweight plastic and cheap little buttons. The price wasn't cheap. It may not cost as much as an ipod, but it was substantially more than the quality of the device should demand. I followed the directions that stated to charge the device for 5 hours before using. After charging, I proceeded to turn on the device. The menu screen did turn on, but not for long. The device kept shutting off and going back to the charging screen. It almost seems like the USB cable or USB jack on the device is faulty because when I physically moved the device while it was plugged into the computer, it kept switching from "Device Found" to "No Device". My USB ports on my PC work just fine with all my other devices. To top things off, it won't work at all now. No charging screen, no menu screen, nothing. I didn't even have a chance to add any music to it or test out the other features. I will be returning it for a replacement. I should request a refund but I guess I'll take the chance that we just got a defective one. My daughter was really excited to get it so we're kind of stuck with giving RipTunes a second chance. If you're looking to buy one, you may want to revisit your options.

I hate to say it but all the bad reviews are right on this product. Most of the time I think some people expect way to much out of an item and rate it badly but this time I know why its rated with such bad reviews. Im wanting to get my daughter an MP3 player for Christmas and thought she would definately love this one. I bought it in store took it home and opened it up right away. Its fairy easy to turn on and it goes striaght to calibrating the touch screen. Which is the worst calibration I've ever seen. It goes to the menu after that. I wanted to make sure all functions are working properly before I see if it can download music properly so I go to camera funtion. Hardly any of the buttons would work. The only one I could get to do anything was the picture button. It has a return to menu button but that didnt work so I had to shut it off to go to the menu. I tried to recalibrate it before I did anything else and it still didnt help. I don't know how the actual MP3 part of the item works but I'd say if the screen is that hard to work then it really doesnt matter. I normally dont write reviews unless the item is really good and has received alot of bad reviews or the item is extremely bad and I feel it shouldnt even be sold. In my opinion this item needs to be discontinued and you should save up for a used Ipod.

I am on my second one of these! I returned the first for battery issues; and now the second one after two weeks of use has the same issue! 20 minutes of play time at best and 5 hours of charge time (if it charges at all). Save your money for an ipod!

I am writing a new review because I can't sing the praises of this cheap little mp3 player enough. We have had it now for about two months, and we still absolutely love it. My daughter is a singer, and before her shows, this mp3 helps her to practice on her own when she wants. We can also practice together where ever we are. Tonight, while we were practicing, my daughter dropped the player on a concrete floor. It hit so hard that I was sure we would have to replace it; however, she picked it up with no damage to the screen or anything else. In addition to being a great player, it is a tough little machine. We did buy the service warranty that will replace the player if anything happens, but we might just not have to use it! Great product! My daughter loves it and takes where ever she goes. Best money I have spent on her in a long time. I don't know why the reviews aren't better, but we sure have not been disappointed with our Riptunes!

We got this for my daughter's birthday, and I was kind of afraid to buy it after all of the bad reviews I read, but she wanted one that was pink with a touch screen, so we decided to try it. It took a few minutes to figure out that the on switch needs to be moved over then the button needs to be held in until the screen comes on. At first, it took some time to figure out how to put songs on it, but once I understood what I needed to do, (I'm not too computer savez, so I watched some video's and found out how to load the music)I loaded tons of her favorite songs. Occasionally, it freezes up, but we just turn it off and back on, and it is fine. My daughter can work it easily, and she LOVES it!!! The stylus has to be pushed more than once sometimes, but I find this to be true with other touch screens devices, as well, so we don't have a problem with that. Finally, my daughter lost the stylus right away, and I sent an e-mail to Riptunes about buying another one. They responded that they don't sell them, but they would send me one. A couple of days later I received two of them in the mail. So far, we are delighted with this product!!

I had a different MP3 player before I bought this device, and I didn't like it, so I sold it to search for something new, and came across the riptunes. I love how easy it is to load music into, and it is compatible with allot of software, as where other MP3 players usually aren't.
I don't know why people are saying such bad reviews such as: "it won't turn on without being plugged in to my PC." This is not true! To turn it on you have to turn the switch to 'on' but you also have to hold down the menu button until the screen comes on. People seem to be missing this vital piece of information.
Anyway. I love this product! The cons are, it has a touch screen that requires a stylus, and sometimes it doesn't press right with the small stylus that they give you. So I bought a new set of styluses that weren't meant for riptunes specifically, and it worked just fine. Another con, is that I don't know what video format it holds, I tried two different formats and it didn't play either of them, but I'm sure you could find some sort of format converter to change the format of your videos to fit it somehow.
It has no internet access, so don't buy it expecting it to.
It does have a camera, but the resolution isn't very good. (I learned to look past that, since my last MP3 player that actually had cost more, didn't have a camera at all. Don't look a gifted horse in the mouth as I always say.)
I haven't tried anything with the E books yet, so I'm not sure how that works.
It seems to have a pretty good charge life. So that's good…
Over all I would say this is a wonderful product! It has some pros and cons, but doesn't everything? Life would be nothing without controversy. I hope this review was helpful.
