Usually I do not leave comments but always read them and use Their input for my purchases. When I was buying my first moniter I found shopping very difficult because everyone hated or loved a certain monitor. Thought I would write a review of what I believe to be a decent monitor for average usage. This is our second monitor the previous monitor (Graco) held on for as long as it could. About 11 months in it could not hold a charge and only transmitted static. Purchased this monitor as a replacement. Yes it is silent when there is no movement (no white noise) but picks up instantly. Was a bit nervous at first but after repeated attempts to fool it, it always picked up a whisper. The reception is amazing and absolutely NO static. Enjoy the room tempature feature and 2 way intercom. The only reason I gave this moniter a 4 was there is no battery back up so if the power goes out so does the receiver. However if there is an outage the parent unit beeps to identify that there is a problem. I would recommend this monitor with the Purchasers knowledge that there is a (No white noise) feature.

We purchased this product in the hopes that it would be "quieter" than our current monitor. Needless to say we got what we were asking for. My spouse and I sleep in a room just adjacent of the baby's room.
Out of the box it did take some tinkering with to get used to messing with the configurations on the parental units. So far so good...
Until we decided to test the sensitivity. It is just like the other reviews say, the parental units stay whisper quiet unless the baby makes a loud noise... and I do mean a considerable amount of noise.
We tested it very simply, one in the baby's room and one in our bedroom. To me the "high sensitivity" in this unit's microphone was lacking... putting it mildly. It didn't pick up any of my loud "whispers" in fact it didn't even pick up anything until I talked in a normal tone.
No where does it say that it cuts on and off in the manual we have. When there is a noise that is loud enough to activate the parental units, the parental units will then pick up EVERYTHING, Eureka! We fixed it... not quite.
The parental units would only remain active for what we timed out to 10 seconds, if no sound was made then the parental unit would then revert back to its silent counter-part.
Long story short we took it back because our Sony baby monitor that cost a third of this one picks up everything, and that is what mom likes (she likes to be able to wake up and be able to hear the baby breathing to know everything is alright).
We'll just deal with the mild interference and the noise that we get from it from time to time than continue to wonder if the baby is asleep or not with this product.
I would have liked the product much better if maybe it had two different reception modes (something like what I've described above).

For parents:
If you're not interested in hearing every little sound and only the cries of you distraught baby (whatever the reason may be), then this is a great baby monitor that has great features for a "reasonable" price.
If you're a (new) mom who is constantly needing to hear the baby breathing or any little noises that he/she may make then make every effort to avoid purchasing this monitor! (Our little girl would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and start playing in her crib, but when she plays she either makes very little or no noise at all, and we wouldn't find out until we would go and check on her and see her on her hands and knees crawling around her crib! An issue we never ran into with our previous monitor...)

    On August 2012 I went to Orlando for shopping my on-its-way baby's care hardware. I have always trusted Motorola for their excellent communications management either commercial or personnal. This product was not the exception, simply good.
    I have read other reviews where people say there are problems with linking and other stuff. I have not experienced any of those problems.
    But maybe, a minor issue is the lacking of a battery back up for the baby's unit.

    Good good one!

      Worked good and had a great range, until we had a power outage and then the parent units wouldn't link back up. I tried resetting the units multiple times, but looks like I need to go buy new. This is a disappointing technology in this day and age.

      I really liked this product for the first 5 months. But then we moved it around due to a trip and suddenly I could not get either parent unit to connect to the baby unit.
      This happened around the 5 to 6 month timeframe.
      I noticed that many others have reported this same issue. That's really dissappointing.
      I would recommend: save your receipt and then if this happens in the first year, call Motorola warrenty and they will likely replace it.

          The receivers have to stay "linked" with the monitor in the baby's room. Even though I'm not moving the receivers, they are not staying "linked" with the monitor. So apparently the signal for this system is extremely week. When they are not linked, the receivers constantly beep. And this is a random occurrence when it happens. It maybe during the day; it maybe all night. This happened most of last night. And it was both receivers that were not staying linked. The baby was not keeping me awake, it was the baby monitor. I bought a fisher price monitor with my first born and we're still using it with him (because he's on opposite sides our our house) 6 years later. So I'm currently looking for another fisher price. Save your money and do not buy the motorola.

              I used this monitor with my 85 year old mother who has dementia. She is upstairs with a chair/bed alarm. When the alarm goes off I used this monitor to talk to her to check on her. I also would ask her over the monitor what she wanted to eat or did she need to go to the bathroom. I had to replace the 1st one after about 3 months. It wouldn't link to the room unit anymore. I bought the 2nd one the first week of March 2013. It is May 2013 and this monitor is doing the same thing. I have now learned my lesson, no more Motorola monitors. I would rate this product a "zero" if I could.

              I don't understand all these negative comments. We love this monitor. The signal is clear and strong. I have plugged and unplugged it several times to move it to different outlets and have no problems with the receivers re-linking to the monitor. There is never any interference and we can even hear whispers. I helped a neighbor three houses down do some yard work one day and the receiver picked up everything that far away. I have a feeling all the problems folks are having are mostly due to user error.
              Similar to other comments though, I do wish there was a battery back up for the main monitor so it would work during power outages. Otherwise, after using it for 13 months, this is still a fabulous product.

              Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

                Loved the monitors for the first 5 1/2 months, however they quit working today. Both parent units quit linking and there is no way to fix it. Apparently this is a common problem. If you buy them be sure to save the receipt!

                This monitor worked great for about 5 months until I went to move the unit and use it in my den. The parent unit and base wouldn't link. Tried removing batteries etc and wouldn't work. Exchanged the monitor and here I am 2 months later and the same exact problem just happened to me again! Returning these tomorrow and getting a different monitor! Such a waste of my time

                We have been using this monitor for about 6 months and have loved it so far. I like that it has a clear signal and good range. However, following a few seconds of a power outage, the parent units will not link with the baby unit. This happened despite having the unit plugged into a surge protector. I called Motorola and was told this is not covered under warranty. What a piece of junk!! How am I supposed to be willing to purchase this monitor again and plug it in? What will happen if the power goes out again? I will be purchasing a different monitor this time. Do not waste your money on this product!

                i started off really liking this item. Two parent units, told the temperature in baby's room, would go quiet if there wasnt noise above the white noise we have in her room. Issue one: battery life. Took forever to recharge. More than a day to get one bar back. However that is a minor issue since they now dont work after 4 months. The parent units will not link to the baby unit. Motorola isnt open on the weekends, so we have to wait until Monday to call cutomer service. Might just find another monitor instead of a replacement though since based on other comments they all seem to have the same issue. Also, the baby unit is not mobile. You cannot move it to another room unless it is plugged in.

                Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
