Cheers peoples. This is my third L.O.T.R purchase and unusually also my third build. It is a terrific set and I was really excited about buying this one as it contained four members of the fellowship, a cave troll and two moria orcs. It also looked like a great set to play with as it had many exciting functions such as the twin falling pillars (for those of you who might have thought there was only one) a pop out treasure chest, crumbling door arch, Balin's exploding tomb and the trapdoor in the well! It is a great and essential edition to any L.O.T.R fan collection. It also nicely completes the fellowship with six out of seven minifigures being unique. The really good points are listed here. First of all the thumbs up goes to the fantasic minifigure combination which includes three unique figures from the fellowship (Legolas, Boromir and Pippin). Another really nice feature is the clever and effective (contrary to popular belief) catapults and fling features in the set which include the collapsing pillars and door arch. Another good feature is that it comes with a few nice accessories for your collection which include a bow, sword, dagger, Uruk-hai shield and a set of Heroica weapons which provide good M.O.C potential. Finally the the reversible minifigure heads are a really nice touch for making an autnentic scene (even Gimli has one behind his beard). This set is definetely up their with Attack at Weathertop. Now here are some of the small bad points which are only minor. Firstly some points of the construction are slighlty insecure and there are uneccasary gaps exposed where they could be filled by bricks. Some of these points are the back of the pillared tear with the bookcase and chest which has several gaps in the bottom. There are also two holes on either side of the middle raised section. This slighlty comprimises the look and secureness of the set. Secondly some of the details are a little scant and some details could be added to improve the appearance. Some of these points are the door arch which randomly has a few one times one and one times two tiles scattered here and there which is authentic, but a few more could be added to make the detail slighlty better looking. Also the tiles are few and far betwen and mostly on one side with the well making it only so good from one side. Lastly the stickers (having over 30 of them) are a liitle annoying and unusually this is the only one out of the five L.O.T.R sets I have bought that has them. Luckily the slighlt badder sides are all structual and are easy to forego. Overall this is a very nice set and a worthwhille purchase, especially for L.O.T.R fans. If you would like to complete the fellowship and collect some extra unique minifigures as well this is an essential purchase. This is also a fun set to build and provides a nice and enjoyable build. Perfect also for emerging builders and casual collecters. A very much worthwhile purchase!

Like many people here, I'm a huge LOTR and LEGO fan. But I have to say, while the set is interesting with good mini-figures and some fun play aspects -- there's not that much to it to justify the steep $80 price tag. The set is quite small once you put it together, and I would have MUCH preferred that LEGO actually print the ink on the bricks (like they used to do more often) then have something like 30-35 stickers to deal with. Nice set, but $50 would have been a better price point, especially since they cut corners by using stickers instead of properly printing designs onto the bricks.

Comments about LEGO The Lord of the Rings The Mines of Moria (9473):

As far as the actual set goes... I love it. I missed out on buying it retail before Lego retired it. I was estatic to see that I could order online through TRU.

This set contains 9 minifigs, including the exclusive Cave Troll. Boromir, Pippin and the Olive Green Orc are also exclusive to this set, although I honestly can see Boromir and Pippin being in new sets in the future.

Aside from the exclusive minifigures, it contains 700+ pieces of Lord of the Rings goodness.

The set contains a great deal of playability (although I purchased mine as a collector's item). I am suprised that Frodo wasn't included, as he seems to play a bigger role in the movie than Boromir.

The set hits the high points from the movie -- the well with Pippin, the tomb with Gimli and the large door that the cave troll busts through.

If you have other sets, you can use the other minifigs (Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, etc.) and re-enact the scene from the movie.

The set is great, and as I said the only not-so-great things are that Frodo isn't included.

I wouldn't change a thing, good job Lego.

Comments about LEGO The Lord of the Rings The Mines of Moria (9473):

This is part of the first wave of lord of the rings Lego sets, and a must have for any serious collector. Sets based on the first lotr trilogy appear to be more popular than the current trilogy (the Hobbit), but time will tell. The Boromir and Moria orc minifigures are not found in any other set. This one also has the exclusive cave troll which increases its appeal. The set captures the fight scene from the first film that many will remember. To me the fight scene is more memorable than the rivendell scenes. And I dont think Lego will put out another Moria set anytime soon. The stickers are tedious to put on, and I wish they included a baseplate to tie the pieces together.

My nephews went crazy over this and I got it at a good price, considering the price of Lego is ridiculous to start with. It had a fair number of characters, the orcs and cave troll were cool (altho' the troll keeps tipping over), and the boys loved the moving parts. We all thought Gandalf should have been included since this is the big scene where he fell to the Balrog. Maybe there's a separate Balrog set, I don't know, maybe there should be if there isn't. The thing is, this is a near 800 piece set and the 2 kids had it put together in under 90 minutes! I honestly thought it would take days. SO, great set, don't pay full price.
