To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012 is really not a bad thing to buy. It's just the price is so high. But that hasn't stopped too many people yet. I, for example, got it despite the price. You know why? Because I love Star Wars and I couldn't help myself. Now to the details. When you first get the box, you can tell it's not an ordinary set. LEGO makes the advent calendar boxes differently than others. The top has a sort of, well - glossy coating. It's really hard to describe. Inside the box you get 24 mini ships, mostly from the prequels. I think this is significant, because the 2011 calendar had ships from the Original Trilogy, and now LEGO has come out with this calendar, consisting mainly of ships from the Prequel Trilogy. This way, it's more tempting to get both advent calendars. If you only get one you might be missing out on the contents of the other. Anyway, this calendar also comes with a Darth Maul Santa, and an astromech snowman with a hat. This might be an insult to some Star Wars fans, but come on - they're LEGO's. Many people have been complaining about LEGO Star Wars sets bumping up in price (by a lot), and personally, I can't say I disagree. I hope LEGO lowers there prices for next year, money doesn't grow on trees! PS - If anyone sees a tree growing money, let me know!

If you arnt worried about price skip this paragraph. The summer sets for Star Wars were saving this one last for a reason. This summers set set a new high in price by topping in at over 14 cents a piece. This set comes in at a whopping 21 cents a piece. Most other Lego sets come in at a reasonable 9 to 12 cents a piece. There arent even any large pieces or animals to justify this price. You are given a decent amount of mini models that are mostly from Star War I so the Phantom Menace lovers may like this set. I have to stay positive or this review wont get through. The minifigures fit the winter season by being themed around the beginning of the Empire Strikes Back. While this is a good way to get older figures, they are not any we havn't seen before besides the specials. Kids might find the snowman R2 and Santa Maul funny but I dont. Just give me the real deal. Overall I am flabbergasted by this set, please check out the other wonderful, economical Lego series. Desert Skiff is decently priced. Best,

Gift for my grandson. He anxiously opened and built each lego each day before Christmas. His Mom used it as an incentive to getting his chores done each day. Wish I could have found the 2013 version for I wanted him to see the lego piece inaction each day and the 2012 set was not available on the lego site.

Lego should provide more choices each year like a Ninja Turtle Advent Calendar.

I have purchased the Lego Advent Calendars for my grandchildren for several years and they love them. Each year they get out the previous years' and enjoy them all over again, mixing and matching the pieces. I do feel that for the price more lego stand alone pieces should be included, rather than tiny pieces that make up one functional piece and are useless on their own.
