Recreate the Sydney Opera House™ a truly iconic landmark, with this LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) buildable playset!

Introducing the world-renowned Sydney Opera House™. This masterpiece of expressionist architecture is the vision of young Danish architect, Jorn Utzon, whose unique interlocking vaulted 'shell' design beat 933 competitors from 28 countries to win an international design competition held by the New South Wales Government in 1959. Combined with the beautiful setting of Sydney Harbour, the opera house has become a true symbol of late modern architecture and one of the most iconic buildings of the 20th century. This LEGO Architecture series interpretation of the Sydney Opera House was designed by US architect Adam Reed Tucker in collaboration with the LEGO design team.

The LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) features:
  • Interpretation of real-world architectural landmark Sydney Opera House
  • Booklet included with details on design and history (English language only. Other languages available for download)
  • Measures 4.3" (10.7cm) tall, 6.2" (15.7cm) wide and 2.6" (6.6cm) deep
  • Collect the entire landmark series!
  • LEGO Architecture inspires future architects, engineers and designers as well as architecture fans around the world using the LEGO brick as a medium for reproducing esteemed structures

The Syndey Opera House set is amazing and provides great fun for AFOLs! My wife loves architecture and I have to admit that this set has blown me away as well. With 4 building instruction booklets which can be assembled in parallel, we decided that each of us builds the parts of 2 booklets in parallel. Building in parallel it took us approximately 3 hours to assemble the whole set. If built by a single person, its probably around 6-7 hours build time. The instructions are easy to follow. There are also a number of neat new building techniques included in this set, particularly in the foundation of the smaller white standalone shells at the back of the building. In terms of new LEGO pieces we have not seen elsewhere, there were also a couple new ones in this set. For example black technic pieces with a joint ball on a brick arm with 1 axle and one regular hole. This piece was used to anchor technic bricks with holes onto which the white shells got attached in bricks with ball sockets. Obviously, the construction of the white shells for the roof due their unusual form and angles provided the richest new building experience. Once the individual parts (2 for the foundation, the major shells for the roof, etc.) were built, putting them together was seamless. And the result breathtaking! Its amazing with how much precision the LEGO designers captured the geometry of the real Syndey Opera House in this set. We have it now on display in our living room.

This is number five in the "iconic" sculpture series. Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge - these set the stage - timeless icons. Sydney Opera House is an eyesore in reality - granted that is a personal opinion - cudos to LEGO they have captured "it" well, "it" looks just like the real thing = ugly. WHY? Why not re-create another masterpiece in line with the predecessors - a windmill from NL or a castle from Germany (Neuschwanstein perhaps). … and the majority of LEGO pieces are in this particularly drap tan color,,, This is going back in the box - I will await the next offering...

    Finally!

    By Rohan

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I am so thrilled that Lego finally figured out those angles for the shells. It is enormous. There are a lot of small detailing. From this set, you get a lot of tan bricks, plates, tiles, slopes and different sizes of base plates. The instructions make the build easy to follow. You have to get this set.

    5th Architecture Model

    By Kelmoomoo

    from Derbyshire

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

As expected enjoyment was had building this model. It took about an hour to build and the instructions are well planned out and easy for all ages to follow. The only issue that was had with this particular model was with the curved shells pieces that go on the top; they keep popping off especially when they were touched so after several attempts at putting them on without touching any other piece the curved shell sections have stayed on and it has now put it on show with the rest of the LEGO models we own.

    Sydney Opera House delight!

    By Toftsy

    from Bristol

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

This is my 5th Model of the fantastic Lego Architecture range. Lets say I wasn't disappointed! As usual, the base has the striking shiny black edging with name plate. This took about an hour to build and was a little tricky in constructing the shell shaped roof pieces and clipping them onto the main building. The finished article, although smaller than anticipated looks great. Sat neatly with the rest of my Architecture range slowly growing in size. On to my next project, The Eiffel Tower!

As an expert LEGO builder, i found this set quite easy. it took me about 5 hours to build it and i was a bit disappointed that it wasn't as challenging as other sets like tower bridge. however, i like the details and the pieces.

I think this is a clever line of building sets. I would definitely recommend for those kids and adults who are Lego fans.

    Challenging Build But Worth it!

    By LegoManDave123

    from Nottingham

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

All I can say is WOW, this set is fantastic in terms of detail. Please be prepared when it comes to building this set as it is extremely tough!! As usual the instructions are very easy to follow, however due to sheer volume of the set things can be easily missed, so take you time! I would also say this is a set that you have to leave and come back to - just because it is so detailed! Once your past this you will love the experience! Again as mention in my other reviews, this is an investment piece, and not to be played with... however it just looks so sophisticated! For anyone wanting a challenge i say go for it... but be prepared as this set will test your skills. - A huge well done to the designers, I have never seen Lego building techniques like it!

    Beautiful

    By Bartolomeus

    from Stavanger

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

As I have bought the Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge this, Sydney Opera House fits perfect in my collection it was ittle bit challenging to build, mostly because it was difficult to connect "the shells". A 5, could have some more details, a little bit pricy, but still amazingly beautiful. *Sorry for the bad quality on the picture.

AS IF I COULD ACTUALLY HEAR THE OPERA

    By ChiTownLegoGuy14

    from Chicago

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

When it comes to building this wonderful piece, it's rather easy. You do have to double check to make sure the roof piece are facing the correct way because if it isn't an actual representation of the real building, it is NOTHING AT ALL. Good piece, looks dope on my shelf, and is priced very reasonably. I cannot wait to one day visit Australia, I plan on honeymooning there.
