Our 4 year old choose this as a gift for himself with his birthday money. He has loved and played with wooden trains for the past year but is now obsessed with model trains. Because of his age and the cost of model trains we were not ready or willing to dive into that world but the Power Trains are the perfect step up for him. He calls them 4 year old model trains. The set is larger than what will fit on any standard wooden train table, but he has been able to snap them together pretty easily and assemble it on our wooden floor when he wants to play with it. The engines should not be run on carpet, hair or decorative snow :) it will wrap around the gears and is pretty much impossible to get out. Excellent value! They are a quarter of the price of wooden trains and definitely less expensive than real model trains. If you ever have trouble with cars coming off the track it's probably because the track is not snapped down comlpetely, they snap in 3 places. We also love that the tracks are all reversable, meaning you can flip the curves over to go in either direction. After being handled by two 4 year olds the past month nothing has broken. We have already purchased more power trains to give them for Christmas!

Bought for a 6 yr old. Easy set up. Can build track another way than the figure 8. Realistic looking. 2 speed sets. I love the little light on them too. Tracks flips over to connect them together more easier. All the kids that come over love it too. Product suggestions: make more expandable packs/ frieght cars. Super love this product.
